  3. follow the instructions, BUT be VERY careful when you remove the rod from the door lock, the other end is mounted in plastic, I broke mine, pulling too hard. had to buy the lock assy, I was lucky, found one at the salvage yard... it is easy to replace the handle, but costly if you mess up. good luck
  4. I have never heard of them, but it sounds like a 550. a year expence to me. And I doubt you will have that many "problems" with a 1990 LS400 with 90k
  5. I didnt know mufflers on Lexus' went bad.... none of mine ever needed replacing.. some of them had over 200K
  6. listen to curiousB, it is just a matter of choice, just follow the schedule and use what you like.. as a 75 year old retired mechanic, I ran gulfpride 30 for 40 years, now they dont even make it.... so I have them change it and dont even ask what they put in it.... one has 242K and the other has 237K both are 97 LS400, and run perfect. cheers

  8. Larry, as a rule the garden hose washer fix is for the in & out motion of the colume. the up & down might be like this: I copied this from someone on the forum: My '96 had the same problem. What I did before tearing the steering column apart is to check out the micro switch on the ignition lock cylinder. The switch is attached to the underside of the cylinder by two very small phillips screws and has a button that fits up into a slot near the opening of the cylinder. When the key is inserted into the cylinder, it pushes the button down completing the circuit and energizing the tilt/ telescope motors. After years or use, dirt accumulates around the switch button and it can become sticky. I took out the screws and carefully pulled the switch down and away from the cylinder, and by using a small brush and blowing on it, I was able to clean the dirt from around the switch button and the hole in the cylinder. Be careful not to blow dirt into the cylinder. I reinstalled the switch, inserted the key and the column worked properly. You can access the ignition switch by removing the lower insturment under cover, then dropping the lower safety panel, this is the panel below the steering column and contains the switches for the trunk lid release and fuel door release and has an air duct, which is just below the column. These coverings are held in place by screws and clips. Then you will have to remove the lock cylinder finish plate, this is the round bezel that surrounds the cylinder, pull it straight out, it's a press fit. Then pull out the cylinder surrounding cover, the square shaped cover that fills the space between the steering column and the center console, it has the round hole for the cylinder and is held in place by retaining clips. This will give you full access to the cylinder and you can remove the switch without removing the cylinder. Just something to check before disassembling the column. Good luck. I havent had a 94 lately, but turn your steering wheel 1/2 turn and see if there are a couple of screws hideing from you......
  9. my old 94 ls had the light on when I bought it, I wired them together but the light stayed on, I redone my work and found I had overlooked a faulty connection, when twisting the wires together. corrected my work and the light went out. peace at last. and they were on all 4 wheels. good luck on yours.

  13. I was in the auto repair (mechanical) for 35 years, and ALWAYS used a local rebuilder for starters & alternators, with amazing results. A guy from Germany (Fritz) and we grew old together, only problem is I had a head start on him (age wise) so find an independent and stay out of the parts houses.....

  18. Hi, you can buy one on ebay.. easy to program... I'm 75 and done mine lastyear, do this: 1. sitting in driver seat, with driver's door OPEN, press lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR to lock all doors, then manually unlock driver door only. 2. Insert YOUR key in ignition, DO NOT TURN, then remove key. 3. Using the same lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, slowly press lock-unlock in 5 cycles 4. Shut door. 5. Open door. 6. Using the same lock/unlock button ON THE DRIVERS DOOR, again slowly press lock-unlock in 5 cycles 7. With the door open insert your key into the ignition, turn to 'on' position (DON'T START), wait 5 seconds. Turn off and remove key. 8. Locks should cycle once (Car will lock and then unlock once by herself). If they don't cycle or they cycle more than once, do steps 1-7 over. 9. Now using the remote, push lock button, hold for one second, then release the button. The locks should cycle once. If not, start over and go slower. 10. Close the door. 11. Open the door. 12. Press the lock button on the remote. The locks should do a lock-unlock cycle. 13. Close the door 14. Press the lock button on the remote, the doors should lock. 15. Press unlock button and the doors should unlock. piece of cake....

  20. their are about 3 different chips around, but I have never heard of one doing anything for the LS400. other than reducing your bank balance.... camel dung.... sounds correct to me.. save your money..

  22. NO, they are different units. the fit would probably be the same, but not the wiring.
