  3. The up & down adjustment was down low and recessed up in the housing. I found it by feeling it with my finger. the little socket and ratchet worked good. check this out: Lexus Headlight adjustment I have a '97 LS and just tonight finally figured out how to adjust the headlights. It is an easy DIY. Don't take it to your mechanic. I am assuming that a '96 has the same headlight setup as my '97. Anyway, this is what I discovered with the screws behind the headlight. My headlight aim left to right was fine, so I didn't have to adjust that, but I'll tell you how to do it just in case you need to do it. You will need a small 1/4 inch ratchet with an 8mm socket or something equivalent. I did this in my garage with an old towel hanging down in front of the headlight that I was adjusting. The headlights were on and I made a mark on the towel showing the top of the brightest part of the beam. That way I would know if the beam was adjusting up or down. Now, here's the riddle of the screws on the back of the headlight. When standing at the drivers side of the car, looking down at the back of the drivers side headlight, you will notice that there are two screws on the upper right side of the back of the headlight. One philips screw is embedded in a small gray round plastic cog. The teeth of this cog interlace with the teeth of a hex screw about an inch below it. This lower hex screw is the adjustment screw for left to right on the headlight. Turn this hex screw with your 8mm socket. Once again, this will adjust the headlight from left to right. Now for elevation adjustment. Like yourself, this is what has been bugging the out of me for some time now. Once again, standing at the drivers side of the car, looking down at the back of the drivers side headlight, you will notice another hex screw at the upper left side of the drivers side headlight. This will NOT adjust your headlight. I do believe it adjusts the fog light elevation, just FYI. Look below this screw and about 4 inches below it, toward the bottom left side, you will see another hex screw sticking out of a hole surrounded by black plastic trim. This is the headlight elevation adjustment screw. Turn it lefty loosy to raise your headlight beam or righty tighty to lower the beam. It will be a tight fit to reach this screw. I had to remove the battery hold down bracket for more room. Once you do this, adjusting the passenger side headlamp will be very similar except the position of the screws on the back of the headlamp will be reversed. Of course, to access the passenger headlamp, you'll have to remove the air cleaner assembly. cheers, bp I sold this bird in '04
  4. I have been in DALLAS forever, and have never seen a RED LS400. Have any of you?? I saw this one on ebay today, only 82K miles. Florida car.
  5. if you buy one of these engines, the VERY first thing you check is ALL bolt/sparkplug holes for good clean threads. good luck, hope you know what you are in for. cheers, bp
  6. these engines come as a long block, that is a short block and heads, all your external parts will need to be added on, top and bottom.
  7. I hit the reply button, then click on browse, find my photo, click on upload, then add reply
  8. Before I closed my shop, I used Japan engines from http://ericjapanautoengines.com/ most of which had to be modified for US standards. But they were all good engines. and worked well.
  9. I have bought a couple of parts for my old 94LS in Waxahachie. listed below, but in no certain order. Bbs Auto Salvage (972) 923-9328 - 3210 S Highway 77, Waxahachie, TX Highway 77 Auto Salvage (972) 935-9306 - 2302 S Highway 77, Waxahachie, TX Jim's Auto Salvage (972) 938-1942 - 3030 S Highway 77, Waxahachie, TX at least it is close to you. cheers, bp
  10. Good luck, my 97 has 230K+, I'm sure it needs it also. so I will be watching. Let me know when finished. bp
  11. Thanks... yeah, I think I will steer clear. I keep thinking on how my "cared for" LS400 has costed me in routine repairs. I think I will look for something else. Resurfacing potential problems are cropping up again even on my car (which I am addressing in another thread). Smart decision, looks like a loser to me.. as said above, if it is not cared for, it is just USED, "rode hard and put up wet" Cheers, bp
  12. My 94 LS driver door rattled with the window down, removed the door panel and found the bottom bolt missing from the glass run channel. Put one in and no more rattle. Thats why I said to remove your door panels and LOOK to see what the problem is, rather than have a bunch of guys guessing.... find out what it is, then ask for help if you need it. my 95&97 are quiet, windows up or down, just a solid sound closing. Cheers, bp
  13. remove the door panels and see what the problem is...........
  14. I like my 95 and my 97, but would like to have the garage door opener Home Link on them. I think the 98-2000 have the best looking front ends, (but I cant afford one yet, and at 75, probably wont get one) After 2001, 430's, I think the styling suffered a little on the backend. but I love them ALL..... cheers, bp
  15. I don't understand. What is the meaning of this!? It's only dangerous because of the way you drive. It's not the car's fault. what kind of statement is this?? the car has a problem, not the driver. It is not unsafe to drive, since it only happens after driving at high speeds, and you dont have to do that. have a little mercy guys, he's just asking for help...... I think this is the purpose of this forum. Those that know "speak", the rest of us, just read and learn something.. cheers, bp
  16. I have no clue as to the problem, but do have a suggestion... as you come to your exit, slow down, pull on the shoulder, let it die, crank it up and continue on safely. my 95 has never done this.@162k. bp
  17. WOW, I just went and tried it, and it works. these little sanding blocks are just right. look close and see the sand marks on the very top.
  18. So the gas additive improved your handling???? My BS meter is going off! :D RELAX, IT IS A MENTAL THING.....
  19. Essentially there are 2 wires in the sensor. When the brakes are worn the sensor rubs on the rotor, breaking the connection between the wires. BUT IT COULD JUST BREAK AND TURN THE LIGHT ON. To bypass the sensor, thus disabling the warning light, simply expose the wire (most people cut off the top of the sensor and strip the plastic housing off the wire) and connect the wires, closing the circuit. The light will go off. WORKED ON MY 94.
  20. this man speaks the truth.... believe it..
  21. Yep, I like yours too... mine is a coach, but my wife wanted the gold package, so I got the 2003 wheels with the gold center to match. I still have the silver coach emblems, all but the LS400, if anyone wants/needs them bp how much shipped to socal for the front emblem? 10.00 should do it.

  23. but I do have 2 remotes, and 2 LS' it is just that either remote will work BOTH cars.... by the way my 97 Pearl white is prettier than yours.... ... so there...
  24. Yep, Billy, you shoulda 'knowed' better. Seriously, thanks for sharing. While many are shooting holes in the idea, its interesting and another option if one is so inclined to experiment. Just out of curiosity, where did you ever come up with that magical incantation? Well to start with I had the 97LS with 2 remotes. I sold my 94LS and bought the 95LS, but it had no remotes. I checked on ebay for remotes and they were more than I wanted to spend. (I did not know there were different FCC codes.) I saw the remote programing setup on here, copied it and tried it to see if it would work on one of my 97 remotes. it did, and I noticed it was opening up both cars. That is when I realized I was programing the remote and not the car itself. So just blind luck, no smarts at all. AND I thought maybe some one else might use it, so I posted it. I really hope it helps someone, the joking dosent bother me, I just go along with it... If you guys have nothing better to do than read the Lexus blogs, take a look at my Bible study website.... who knows you might be helped.. bp.
  25. Sure it does Tom, but why should I spoil their fun... probably half of them drive VW's anyway.
