  1. kinda new here, and i'm sure this question has come up a few times in the past, but just for fun, how many miles are on your odometer? i have a ls400 with 119k miles on it, i'm sure there are plenty out there with a bunch more than that.
  2. well my friend, either you are not wiping off the existing oil residue or you are putting too much oil into the engine, if you do not wipe off the existing oil residue from the dip stick then it will appear as if there is too much oil in the engine due to the "sloshing effect" for lack of a better term, and makes it appear as though the oil level is higher then it really is.
  3. thanks for all of the different options, i believe my problem is the one nc211 was describing. Sometimes the motor works and sometimes it doesn't, and other times it only works half way, and its only for the tilt motion the microscope works just fine, but it seems like that is what nc211 is talking about, thanks again
  4. haha, i just recently purchased a 96 ls with 120k for about the same price as you are considering. and even more coincidently i am going to have to replace the timing belt because i can not figure out if it had been repaired recently or not, kind of a bummer, but i think it will be a good investment since these cars have the ability to go many many miles without huge repair bills. good luck on your decision (do it)
  5. hello everyone, i recently purchased a used ls400 with roughly 120k miles on it, i love the car, and am looking forward to many more miles with it. i am going to bring it in to my mechanic in a few days so he can give it the once over to make sure everything is in working order. My issue is that i do not know if the timing best was ever changed on the car. It didn't say anything in the carfax history report about it being replaced and i bought the car from an auction so there was no paper work. I have a hard time believing that it hasn't been replaced with 120k miles on it. And that last thing i want to do is pay my mechanic 400 bucks to open up the engine and tell me that it was already replaced, is there anyway i can tell if it had been replaced? Thanks everyone
  6. thanks i was looking around, but i must not have looked hard enough, appreciate it
  7. Hello everyone, just joined the forum after i purchased a 96' ls the other day, i love the car, everything about it is great, the only problem i have with it is the automatic steering wheel that gets stuck in the up position after i take the key out of the ignition and doesn't want to go back down when i start the car again. This makes driving the car a bit awkward, so i was wondering if anyone knew if there was some way to disable the feature instead of getting a new motor which is likely the problem, thanks everyone.
