  1. Hi, and welcome, instrument panel is no problem. here is something I posted awhile back: What is all this "HARD" talk, it only takes a few minutes to have it in your lap, and I have big fingers on a 75 year old body. SO, http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/electrical/...entcluster.html use and follow this link, piece of cake, You can do it!! then check out: http://www.mikadotechnology.com/ also, Here's another, http://stores.ebay.com/BBA-Remanufacturing-Inc type in lexus under the BBA store search section, and you are on your way. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/uploa...5_564_71501.jpg
  2. Hi, I just replaced mine, bought them from a club member, but they were bought from: http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/page247.html everything fit perfect, and the car runs fantastic. I used 1990 - 97 LS400, SC400 $99.00 TS26190 -PCI 1UZFE 4.0 DOHC (1990 - 97) LS400, SC400 3-piece timing belt kit from Preferred Components. Contains new 209 tooth timing belt, tensioner bearing assembly, and upper idler bearing. and, GS400, LS400, SC400, GS430, LS430, SC430, LX470, Landcruiser, Tundra $69.00 WP970 -Rock 1UZFE 4.0 DOHC (1990 -00) GS400, LS400 1UZFE 4.0 DOHC (9/97 -2000 only) SC400 3UZFE 4.3 DOHC (2001 -05) GS430, LS430 2UZFE 4.7 DOHC (1998 -05) LX470 2UZFE 4.7 DOHC (2001 -04) Toyota Sequoia 2UZFE 4.7 DOHC (1998 -04) Toyota Landcruiser 2UZFE 4.7 DOHC (2000 -05) Toyota Tundra Aftermarket replacement new water pump from D & J Rock Products NO LEAKS, NO ISSUES QUOTE Hi Billy, I was reading the link on your timing belt & water pump replacement. What was the reasoning not going with OEM as apposed to aftermarket? I have no problems using aftermarket as long as they are good quality. Im always reading that everyone is recommending OEM over aftermarket. I'm glad the parts are working out for you. Are there any others that have used the parts you did with continued success?? Thanks for your time, Oscar Hi, I am 75+, had my own garage for 30+ years and have used mostly aftermarket parts all those years. we stayed with name brand quality parts as much as possible. So, I have no reason to doubt them as far as quality goes. There are probably not that many different companys that actually make the parts, they just label them differently for the various resellers. I started my mechanical life working for GMC truck and coach division of general motors and NONE the parts we built engines with were made by general motors. ALL of them came from independent companys. I could blow you away with some of the information I know. The factories send out for bids, so they can determine (best price) who builds what for them..... so, if you go buy something from Lexus or Toyota and think THEY made it..... wonderful. I am happy for you.. Most of the real quality comes with the WORKMANSHIP of the installer, does he know what he is doing or is he just feeling his way through the process??? cheers, bp
  3. I am wondering if its coming from the line that I have circled in yellow? Is that the high pressure line? Is that a pain to replace and costly? I just replaced mine.. not hard at all. I bought mine from ebay, see: Item number: 390089286905 this is the part I used. less than $100 fits like a glove.
  4. what led you to disconnecting the battery?
  5. OmarG, your mail box is full and I cant get ahold of you, need to know:: did you want: water pump, timing belt, idler, distributor caps and rotors? that is all I could find. 7. thanks, glad you like it, my bank account/socialsecurity wont let me move to Fla, so no canvas, and they are both 97's
  8. Gee Thanks guys, I figured I would get slammed.... but I think they look pretty sharp myself..... thanks again.... of course my DWP has Chrome wheels and black tires. cheers!!
  9. I didnt like my wheels, so I turned my whitewall tires out to take away some of the looks. I like it better, of course I'm 75+ so I grew up with them..... Anyone else out there with them? click on the top black border to enlarge, then again on the photo for clear picture. .
  10. Can anyone tell me exactly how it works or if there is a way that I can tell that its working? I have a 1994 LS that I brought used. There is no owners manual that came with it so there are a lot of things that I'm figuring out as I ride and explore it. look at the switch (photo) on mine, the smaller shaft, turns both ways, volume, up or down. but the outer sleeve around it is the on and off switch. when I turn it on the middle light on my dash lights up, if radar is detected in front of me the left red light blinks, if it is behind me the right light blinks.
  11. on mine it is a radar detector (black knob missing) also has dash lamps (3)
  12. I have a set (8) of sparkplug tube seals (oem) for sale, and a timing belt idler/bearing (also oem) (I ordered two, it only takes one) for sale and a aftermarket sparkplug wire set (ignition wires). (custom fit) If anyone wants/needs them, call 972 395 0678, or email billydpowell@verizon.net $35.00 for each item. thanks.. bp
  13. Niced Collection, especially the T bird and Wildcat. Do you still have any of them? nope, just memories & photos.... there are many more, I have had so many cars, I see something, like it and buy it, then see something I liked better, buy it. Same with houses, we have owned(buying) 26 different houses/farms, up to now... never have rented in 54 years of marriage. BUT have been in the last house 6 years (record) (retirement house). wow, I cant believe how old folks rattle on. sorry, back to cars, I bought one once just to drive around and look for something to buy. dumb, but that was/is me... but now I have found it Lexus LS, 6 so far... I like the 97's best. replacing my power steering hose today, on the OWP. (only leak) JUST FINISHED, HOORAY, NO LEAKS, NO NOISE ............................. DWP (TC/WP)has no leaks.
  14. open the drivers door, and you will see a white sticker like the one below, look at the top line, production date is at top right. on this sticker it is 1/97 check yours out. good luck. bp
  15. no it is two jack stands and I used the jacks out of both my Lexus' to jack it up, and held it with the stands, I had a garage for 30 years, so I done it safe.
  16. nope, we lined everything up and just took the belt off by releiving the pressure from the idlers, with no movement at all, and replaced it the same way, lining up all the marks on the belt with the marks on the engine and I hope I am lucky by not replaceing the seals... there were NO leaks.
  17. Good work Bill, but I think, to be safe as you say, you should have replaced the pulley, especially not knowing when it was last replaced. These things typically last 150% of the scheduled TB service - meaning they are liable to go half way to your next service. Nice car btw, but I'm not feeling the tires. :P BTW, where did you place the stand in this pic? It doesn't look like it's under the cross member. OH, when I ordered my parts, I ordered 2 idlers, plus the adjuster, by mistake. it has a new one.... and I know about the tires..... I didnt like the wheels alone, and since I am 75+, I grew up with WSW tires, and had this set on it, so I just turned them around. Now when I see it I see the tires and that takes away from the wheels...... I am a redneck.... probably the only Lexus in Dallas with WSW's. I'll give y'all a break and not post anymore photos.. cheers.. but here is a FEW of my older ones, I think you will get it.... bp
  18. I have 3 items I didnt need, a OEM Idler pulley/bearing, OEM sparkplug tube seals, and an aftermarket sparkplug wire set, (pre cut custom fit) mine didnt need them. My car was probably done about 20k miles ago, but I didnt know it and could not find out, so we redone it to be safe. oh, I also have the distributor caps and rotors (I put the new ones on because I had them) if you want/need them. give me a call 972 395 0678. bp finished product click twice for full view.
  19. my seals were fine.. It took us about 6 + hours, it was our first time, and we double checked EVERYTHING, lined all the marks up and was in no hurry. my nephew done the work and I read the instructions from the pc. figured out which bolts were necessary to secure the water pump with the red stuff... just took our time.
  20. Maybe it's just me, but speaking that way to a long term member of this club, when you have but six posts, seems a bit out of line. And just how you think from a distance we can tell more about the leak source than you can by looking at it....well... I definitely agree with you, I think he owes curiousB an appology....

  22. Relax, take a deep breath. Why don't you top oil up yourself and drive it a few days and see how much loss you have. If you lost 1/2 qt in 50 miles you'd have a lot more than two spots on your driveway. Get an exact "before and after comparison" before you jump off the bridge. Spots you're seeing could just be oil from the oil change dripping off or past oil on the engine underpanel that just dripped off. If two spots on your driveway is "car owner hell" what will it be when you have to replace timing belt or water pump or fuel pump? What year is your car? How many miles? Maybe you don't have the stomach for this. Hay, curiousB, it is a shame you dont know anything about cars, or Lexus'. I wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole...... Billyboy, I know much more than you think. As for not touching it with any length pole that isn't an option as the sale was made a month ago. No point complaining about being an owner after you are one. Complaining won't change anything. As for the point of oil leaking being an indicator of a botched job or a more serious problem. That is entirely possible. But the drama queen delivery of the OP leads leaves the possibility of less heinous crimes and seems to jump to a worst case conclusion. I just don't see the reaction as measured to the situation. Clean it up, top up the oil, and check over a few days how much oil is leaking. Its not like the engine will fall out in 2-3 days of monitoring. hay, I was on your side, I just didnt like the way he answered you, like you didnt know anything.... believe me I know you are a real help to bloggers on this forum, me included.. I dont think you got the drift of my comments.... sorry, old folks dont think right sometimes... cheers.
