Where Is The Water Pump On A 1990 Ls 400 ?
billydpowell replied to 90 LS400's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
If you are leaking antizreeze, and cant see where the water pump is, I dont think you will be reparing it your self, so, take it to your favorite repair shop and ask for an estimate. then tell us what they said and we can give you some intellegent direction on the matter. cheers. -
Sorry for jumping on you, had a bad day debating other topics on here. Seems Lexus owners don't like opinions. Anyway, they're exact copies of the OE parts, and though I haven't had my OE off yet, they feel stiffer but not overly harsh. I'm thinking it will bring it back to the OE feel with just a bit more firmness. I've dealt with urethane parts on all my other cars in the past and these have a little more compliance, so it's good for those owners who don't like the idea of a 'race car' ride. I'm all for OE when it fits, but seriously, Lexus parts pricing is ridiculous sometimes. I've just bought a full front end parts assortment of tie rods, ends, ball joints, wheel bearings, bushings, etc. all aftermarket, the OE parts netted nearly what I paid for the car and that was insane. I don't mind paying the price if there's no other option, but even going used is a better choice most times than trying the dealer. When I switched up to 1994 rocker and door mouldings I paid almost $160 in just plastic clips to secure it all. I'm still feeling the burn of that one. Unfortunately my install is postponed due to a severe laceration on my knee I received on a customer's car, so it'll be a few weeks. If anyone else gets there's done first I'd like to hear feedback. just got an email from mybushings, Billy, I'm terribly sorry to have to disappoint you, but our warehouse lady has just informed me that although our inventory listing shows the ADUS #9200 engine mounts as being in stock, this is incorrect, as the last pair were sold last week. We are going to try and locate 2 more for you over the weekend from another supplier , so I am waiting on a new shipment and then I will get mine in and report... cheers, bp

the trannys do last, mine have 238 & 243k on them and are smooth. could it be a misfire or something? are you using premium fuel?

WELL,!! wash my mouth out with RDM soap..... he not only told the truth, but told us where to get them.... I went there and bought BOTH mounts for less than ONE was going to cost me... WOW thanks RDM, I humbly ask for your forgiveness.... I promise to be more careful in the future.. (course I',m 75+ and prone to forget, cut me some slack) I cant wait to get them.. I will put them in and I can give you a real comparison, since I have two 97's. thanks again RDM.... cheers .I am also going to do a timing belt/tuneup/w.pump combo with my tranny mount. smile.. here is my stuff, the wires are just for backup purposes. no offence intended RDM, just wanted to know where to buy them , and I did. thanks. bp

Nice attitude, calling a guy a liar without researching. Why would I state something not in fact? www.mybushings.com I posted a link last week. I have both engine mounts and the transmission mount sitting in my toolbox awaiting installation. $31.50 for the engine mounts, like $43 for the transmission mount. Tighter feel? This isn't suspension related so what feel are we speaking of? Do you like the feel of your gas tank mount? The exhaust system mount? Feel you say....fan of urethane....sounds subjective. I'll defer to the Lexus engineers that designed the mount for a certain load, dampening impact and lifetime. I doubt they chose rubber compound arbitrarily. I'm with you curiousB. Lexus KNOWS what they are doing. do you think 75 bucks each is a good price?
-
i did'nt think any other product types were available - what manufacturer are selling these and is the urethane mounted to genuine brackets? would be nice to have a link - cause my next project is the engine mounts....after i fix my power steering issue. B) I dont think RDM knows what he is talking about. I have looked everywhere for ls400 mounts and the best I can find are: 1990 to 2000 Lexus LS400 Engine Motor Mount OEM STYLE $74.95 http://lexus-car-parts.macautoparts.net/Mo...roductInfo.aspx sure hope I'm wrong....... waiting

Hi, I copied this from someone: finally changed my transmission mount. Here is what you need to do: Drive the car up on a ramp (I used a Rhino Ramp) Use the jack that came with the car, together with a piece of wood, to even out the pressure point, and apply jack on tranny pan. You need to apply just enough jacking force to lift the tranny about 1/2 inch. Behind the tranny pan, you will notice a cross member. This cross member is held to the chassis by 4 14mm bolts. There will also be 4 12 mm nuts that holds the tranny mount towards center of this crossmember. Remove the 4 nuts in the center followed by the 4 bolts on the crossmember, remove the crossmember. You will be able to see the tranny mount. The tranny mount is held to the tranny by 4 bolts. Remove the 4 bolts and remove tranny mount. Install new tranny mount. Alldata list torque figures for the 12mm nut at 10 pounds and the 14 mm bolt for the cross member at 19 pounds. Is this correct? Anyone please care to comment? My old mount's rubber was pretty much squashed to the point that it was metal on metal. See attached pics: Notice that there is barely 1/8 of inch of space. With the weight of the tranny, I am sure that it was metal on metal - this means all the vibration will come through I did not have the time to take the car for a drive but I immediately noticed less vibration at idle. I am sure that the motor mounts are probably shot. However motor mounts are $110 each and labor is another $250 or so. It is too difficult a job for me to undertake. The tranny mount took me 30 minutes, the mount cost about $56 delivered from Park Place Lexus. It is a really cheap solution for those looking to reduce vibration. Anyone can do it.

My 97's have 238K & 242K on them. Time to do a timing belt, water pump, and tune up on the DWP, with a new tranny mount. will also do the tranny mount on the OWP this week.

Hmmm... not sure. I ordered it from a Lexus dealer in Florida. It has "Toyota" stickers on it. I paid $62.00 total (with shipping). I received mine yesterday, part # 1237150060 from Lexus of Roseville, Ca. they were 36.67 each, (I ordered two for my 97's) the shipping was 11.00 for one or both total 84.34. They say Genuine Parts - Toyota you order by vin# to get the correct parts. They also had a sticker on them "Lexus Parts World"

You would do well to read this article of a test on a Lexus: http://www.autobodypro.com/safety/articles/0031.htm partial read: The EPA's ban on R12 production gave rise to a new generation of refrigerants. Now, blended versions of alternative refrigerants are wreaking havoc on vehicle A/C systems and shop equipment. The windshield of a Lexus sedan hurtles across the hood of the car. All four side windows shatter, producing a shower of tiny glass fragments. Flames engulf the dashboard and sweep the head of the mannequin behind the wheel. This fire erupted because the Lexus' air-conditioning system was charged with HC-12a, a refrigerant (produced by OZ Technology in Idaho) that contains propane and butane gas. The incident occurred during an event staged by the Palm Beach County Fire Department and the International Association of Arson Investigators, who demonstrated the dangers of replacing high-priced CFC-12 with cheaper, flammable substitutes--and illustrated the importance of using only refrigerants approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA's 1995 ban on R12 production gave rise to an alternative refrigerant market--and to a problem for the automotive service industry. Ten approved substitutes are now available, but problems arise when these refrigerants--and/or Freon--are mixed within an A/C system. Combining refrigerants leads to cooling and operating problems, eliminates the opportunity to recycle any R12 in the system, taints good supplies of R12 already in shop tanks and contaminates recycling/recovery equipment. The substitute HCFC-22, commonly known as R22, causes additional problems because it destroys and leaks past A/C system seals and hoses, sometimes leading to plugged refrigerant circuits, reduced refrigerant flow and damaged components. These problems are costly, but they are minor compared to the dangers posed by refrigerant alternatives or mixtures that contain flammables such as propane, butane and isobutane. Even more frightening is the fact that such cases of contamination are not rare. Even though the EPA prohibits the use of HC-12a in automobiles, OZ Technology President Gary Lindgren told a television news reporter from Phoenix that more than 5 million vehicle A/C systems operate on the refrigerant. Overall, industry experts estimate that 315 percent of automotive A/C systems are contaminated with combinations of R12, HFC-134a, R22, hydrocarbons, propane, butane and isobutane. Neutronics Inc., an Exton, Pa.-based company that manufacturers refrigerant identifiers, predicts that 1012 percent of vehicles serviced this summer will be contaminated. And because few automotive professionals or consumers are aware of the problem, that percentage is expected to increase.

Pros & Cons Of Buying Another 96 Ls 400 For My Wife
billydpowell replied to toowen's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
NADA top of the line price is about $8,900, so 10K is a good place to begin negotiating down. Where are good ones like this one for sale at the bargain basement prices I hear are available?? throw your book away, go to craigslist there in KC and look: Lexus 1996 LS400 (Reduced) - $5995 (Northland) and 1997 Lexus LS400, chrome 20's auto, 113k - $6750 also others... try being a smart shopper. by the way, mileage dosent ruin a ls, like other cars. -
