  1. I suspect my air valve is going out (disappearing ps fluid + smokey exhaust sometimes.), but only on occasion do I get a smoke screen when I floor the pedal to get on the highway. It may do it on start-up as well, but it's not enough for me to see in the rear-view, unlike when I merge on to the hwy. Is it supposed to smoke all the time, or only sometimes like my car is doing? Also, does this task just involve unscrewing the old and !Removed! the new back in its place? Or is there more to it than that?
  2. Will this work if my cd changer is broken? It turns on but does not operate (just shows error message.). It would be nice if this works seeing how VaisTech and friends don't care about any pre2001 Lexus cars. Direct input for my ipod....someone pinch me!! LOL
  3. I'm aware that it's not hp (or miracle according to some) in a bottle, although on several forums it is described as such. My old car still performs according to factory specs, so I've got no desire to try and fix something that isn't broken. Jim, I put 8oz of seafoam in the oil, let it idle in the driveway for 10 minutes, drained the seafoam+oil, used 3 quarts of oil to flush all of the gunk out of there (I just kept pouring the oil until clean looking oil came out of the drain.), refilled with oil, and that is it.Blake
  4. I've said it before, it puffed smoke like crazy. Unplugging the brake booster vacuum line and letting the car stall out on seafoam is not rocket science, so I think that we can move on from the notion that I incorrectly seafoamed the car. The smoke is all fine and good, but what good did it do? None. The car didn't run any smoother or seem peppier. It may work wonders on some cars, but it was a waste of time for me. Both of those pictures of the dipstick are of USED motor oil. Please read what I wrote in that post: the first shot is of M1 SS @ 5,000 miles, and the second shot is M1 SS @ 5,000 miles and post 8oz Seafoam in the crank case idling for 10min. Maybe it has worked wonders on some cars, but mine is not one of them. My plugs were changed after seafoaming, and still....the same car I've had all along.
  5. Jim, after the seafoam, the oil was not nearly as black when it came time to change it. As I mentioned, I was skeptical, so you can see the before and after pictures that show the difference in post #25 in this thread:http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=30929&st=0
  6. I just ran the part number through Park Place's search, and they came back as second gen shocks as well. See if you can compare them to what the local dealer has for a '90. Otherwise, make the seller take them back and refund your money.
  7. I am certain I did this correctly. After every repair I do and especially after ones like seafoam where I am unusually suspicious, I pose myself the question of: if someone were to come in here while I am sleeping do the job that I just did to the car, would I notice the difference? My answer for seafoam was 100% no. It puffed smoke for several minutes, but that made no improvement to the car whatsoever.I did, however, notice a good difference in my oil when I ran it through there.
  8. The exterior is not too hot. They started off with the attractive Rav4 front end, and it all goes south from the A pillar on back. I don't really care for the oversized buttons in the center stack either, but the ac vents in the center stack from the LS460 are cool!!
  9. I like it a lot. Cross overs don't do anything for me, but that is a very sharp looking car! I wouldn't let the fact that it's a Mazda scare you...as with almost any car, take care of it, and you will be fine, and $1500 for an extended warranty is cheap insurance!
  10. You will probably pay about $120/strut for Lexus parts. It's a very simple, straight forward job...for the fronts we spent about an hour per side with an air ratchet (if you have to sit there and compress the springs by hand, it's going to be longer.). Talk some more about the busted feeling; is it making any noises? If you can duplicate the noise by slamming on the brakes, it's probably not the struts. 60mph should be less than 2k rpms. 2,000 rpms in my '95 is about 62mph (75 is something like 2400.). ;) When other people drive my car, they always seem to slide the shifter in to 3rd rather than 4th, maybe that happened during your test drive?
  11. Aside from the poor driveability, you can either find it on a Lexus service recipt (look for the part numbers in the link below.), or you can peel the carpet back and take a look. ;) When you're bored, here is a lot of information to read up on as far as the ECU is concerned: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...ost&p=95901
  12. The one area that probably takes the most abuse is the suspension. Listen for any creaks/clunks/other abnormal sounds and be sure that the car glides down the road smoothly and quietly. Check for p/s leaks too, and if you are looking at a 95-96 make sure that it has the revised ECU in it. Other than those few areas, they are really quite trouble free cars that are built to last a long time. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search!
  13. It was probably a 420 and/or 430 code. I got that code about a week ago, and luckily, it went away just by unplugging the battery. Before you go and replace the O2s, test them and make sure they are causing the trouble.
  14. I've got nothing but great things to say about the repair job Mikado Tech did on my radio lcd, but they are in San Francisco...turn around time was about an hour. I don't know what that code means specifically, but you are probably going to be looking at a replacement or rebuild of your changer.
  15. I have XM (with a standard issue Audiovox tuner with wired FM mod.). It's usually tuned in to XM121 or XM73 (Fox News and Frank's Place). I love it!! B)
  16. My biggest complaint is the cheap, POS materials they use to construct their laptops. When I pick mine up, it creaks and groans and sounds like it might snap in half. Also, it hummms from time to time for no apparent reason, and actually, wacking it will make it stop. LOL The speakers have failed. My hard drive failed which was a major PITA, but I have to share the blame in the PITA factor because I don't back anything up. I can't really pin that on Dell because they didn't manufacture it. I'm glad I opted for the extended warranty when I got this overpriced and poor-performing Inspiron!
  17. They're BF Goodrichs. ;) I actually like them better than the Michelins that they replaced. They ride just as comfortably/quietly and have much better wet traction. Plus, they were $40/corner cheaper. After 20k miles on them over the past year, I'd certainly buy them again!
  18. Me too. I only have a landline for my home security system. Other than that cell phones and cable internet are making land-lines less and less important. I wish I could say the same. This Inspiron is my first and last Dell because of very poor reliability and quality. Tech support wait time is very, very short, but I do have to pay special attention to interpret the accents.
  19. Are you sure it's not just the mast that is broken instead of the entire assembly?
  20. This should help you out; their are even pictures in the last post..... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...37&hl=light
  21. Wow that is awesome. I don't like modified cars, but I'd take that one! B)
  22. I think $8k is a very reasonable figure....KBB private party is about $7k-$8k. I don't think you'd have any trouble selling it from a demand stand point. Those Subaru wagons are pretty cool! I've always really liked the WRXs too(but I'm sure that they are too small on the inside for me.)! B) I'd get a Subaru if I had to get a wagon too (I'd consider a VW too because you have a diesel option.).
