  1. I finally bought a K&N last winter, and my fuel mileage did go up. I went from getting low 26 mpg's on the highway to getting just over 27mpg on the hwy now. That's pure hwy (cruise set around 76-77mph) with the a/c on. I don't get carried away when I oil the filter, and my maf sensor is doing just fine. I too haven't noticed any extra engine noise. I'm very pleased with my purchase. :)
  2. My biggest complaint is being 6'4" in a car that isn't designed for someone my height. But otherwise, I'm very pleased with the workmanship my old '95 LS with 301,000 mostly trouble-free miles. Another complaint thread.... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...t=0#entry185667
  3. I have, and the regular fuel gave me lower fuel economy ( I think it was 2-3 mpg less, I don't remember the exact number.). I worked out the numbers and I would have infact saved money by going with premium in the first place. I think of it as pay me now or pay me later.
  4. Guys, let's be polite and stay on topic here. blake918
  5. That does seem a bit steep considering genII cars are now in that range, but if you really like the car, see how low you can get them to go. What kind of cool, old GMs do you have right now?? B)
  6. It's an option, and a fairly rare one (on the LS400s) too. ;)
  7. Any Lexus dealer will run the VIN and give you the service history of the car. Carfax runs all kinds of searches on the background of the car to see if it has been flooded, badly wrecked, used as a rental car, etc., etc. It's well worth the $20 to get the Carfax, but a lot of dealers will do this for you. Here's what a carfax looks like (I found this in an ad on ebay.): http://www.carfax.com/cfm/ccc_DisplayHisto...8UF22E3S0023844As for not getting ripped off with the price, go to kbb.com for a starting point, and also, familiarize yourself with what LS400s are selling for in your area by looking in the newspaper, autotrader, cars.com, etc. And above all, be ready to haggle! lol I'd probably look for a used Honda Odyssey. Or is a mini-van out of the question?? lolI LOVE Chicago. My father works right outside of Joliet in Channahon, and I go up there as many times as possible to visit!
  8. My aunt had a dark green '95 or '96 (whatever the model is with bose, leather, auto climate, etc.), and it was a teriffic car. It went 185k miles (she bought it new) before someone rearended her, and totaled the car in 2005. In 185k, other than maint. costs she had to replace the maf sensor, and that was it. It impressed me with how well built and luxurious the car was. After hearing how great my old LS is to my she decided to get a '95 too:
  9. I certainly didn't mean to imply anything by what I said. I was mostly getting at it must be nice to enjoy the fruits of your labor because I know a lot of reading went in to this decision. ;) I know I told you that it would take me forever to pick one of these out too! That sure is a great price that you paid for your GPS. The best I could find was around $300 for a brand new one ($170 or something for a refurb, but I don't want that.). After having the Magellan for a few months, any further remarks about it?? Thanks!

    Armyofone?

I just chatted with Josh's wife, and she told me that he'll be home sometime between Sunday and Thursday. He'll be headed to Kuwait soon, and from there, he's flying directly to Ft Drum. Meghan also told me that he's doing well, and is, of course, ready to get home.
  11. Yeah, the OEM cd changers are very expensive. Park Place sells it for $1800; it is crazy. I'd check ebay and car-part.com for a changer. I've seen them on both sites for sale in the $200-$300 range. I'm not sure if the LS comes prewired for a changer, but if not, obviously, you'll need to find that wiring harness and the trim panel that goes around the cd changer in the glove box.
  12. What a beautiful car! I'm sure you will LOVE it!!! B)
  13. Jill, I'm very sorry to hear about Buddy. :( I know it is extremely tough to lose a pet that's been in your life for so many years. You'll be in my prayers. Take care, Blake

    Armyofone?

I talked to Josh a bunch of times over the summer, and he was doing well. I just got a message from him saying that he's headed home at the end of October. Let's keep him in our thoughts/prayers that he makes it home safely!
  15. It must have been bad gas because I run BP 93 in my LS more than any other brand, and I never have any pinging.
  16. I agree. I'm pretty sure that Rudy will get my vote. I'd never vote for Hillary, and I'd never vote for Edwards. I got this pic in an email the other day.....
  17. I wish I had tried to get Lexus to cover my seat belt, but I had an indie garage do it for ~$200 (that's parts and labor) which isn't too bad.
  18. That won't be a problem at all. Only in a LS forum will you see a bunch of people bragging over who has more miles on their original powertrain!! The car (other than all those air fresheners) and price look pretty good. B)
  19. I never thought I'd live to see Consumer Reports kick Toyota out of bed; hell must be freezing over. It's hardly a shock to me....
  20. They're a little less than $90/side at Park Place:http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...amp;catalogid=2
  21. The light indicator is only for the lights on the rear of the car. ;) Those lights seem to be some sort of parking lights or something else of no use. I removed them from my car, and it looks a lot better without them.
  22. Other than getting under the car and inspecting the egr pipe which would have to be done more with your hands than your eyes since they snaked this pipe tightly between the engine and firewall, there's no way to know for sure, but the symptoms that you wrote match up exactly with the symptoms (mostly a rattle/ticking noise that occurs between roughly 1500-3500 rpms.) that I had with my cracked egr pipe. No, there's no harm in driving around as is. My pipe had cracked in two pieces, so it was an easy fix (didn't remove the tranny) for me by unbolting the bottom half from the exhaust manifold, pinching it shut, and reinstalling it. You could do the same fix with your car, but I don't know what effect (if any) it would have when you go to do your emission testing.
  23. I have had PIAA extreme whites in my '95 for about 3 years, and I've been more than pleased with the very bright, white light they put out. You can see the difference in the color of the light between my PIAA low beams and std. issue fog lights.... ...changing the head light bulb is a very easy job.
  24. The 4.0 in either the LS or GS will last you a very long time. I've driven a '98 LS with 235k miles, and it felt like a new car. It's not uncommon for a LS400 to go 300k-500k miles without any problem. If it were my money, I'd get the 98-00 LS (with hids) in a heartbeat...it's probably the best looking car that Lexus ever put out, imho.
