  1. Thank you for your help. I just finished replacing both bulbs.
  2. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is, and what is required to replace one of the brake light bulbs on the 3rd brake light (the light inside the car at the bottom rear glass)? My owners manual does not explain how to change any bulbs, just bulb location. One side is not working, I assume the bulb is expired. Should I replace both? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Is there an aftermarket battery (in my area) that fits and hold up as well as a Lexus battery? Thanks in advance.
  4. I want to say thanks to all who posted to this question. I have yet to make up my mind on whether I'll instruct them to take a light surface cut on the front rotors, or just load the pads and install the applicable kits and hope for the best. I am concerned about the indie being knowledgeable about lubrication points as well as torque specs. Can anyone recommend a competent independant in the Orlando area? I'm sincerely grateful for all the input. Multiple heads are better than one!
  5. My wife's 2000 LS400 squeaks pretty loud when braking. Lexus wants to replace the front pads, shim kit, fitment kit, and resurface the rotors ($280). I passed. I purchased the parts from Lexus and will have an independant shop install them. There is no pulsation from the brake pedal when I'm braking. Should I have the rotors resurfaced? I'd appreciate any knowledgeable input.
  6. Everything is relative towards the condition of the car. If this car has good service records. No accidents, rust, paintwork, clean interior with no cuts, tears, non smoker, good tires. If it originated and came from the sunbelt. I'd be inclined to say $22,000 would be OK provided the lighting interior and exterior work.
  7. You hit my main contention on the head. In theory, if the valves were adjusted properly during the assembly there would not be an issue. I was not the owner when this repair was done. I'm contacting the service manager in the morning and pleading my case. I'm hopeful I can reason with him. If this effort fails, I'm calling Lexus customer service. I will post the results. ← I promised to post an update on the outcome of the valve adjustment controversy. Lexus and I split the cost of the valve adjustment (my end was $802.00). I really appreciate the consideration I was given by the company. I feel comfortable knowing Lexus truly cares about my ownership experience. They have no idea how loyal I am.
  8. Could someone forward name of company and phone #? Thanks in advance.

  10. Thanks for your input. The car runs, idles, and performs perfectly. With this in mind, I don't feel there is any damage. If an engine gets damaged it can be successfully repaired. Based on what I know, I'd have to say it is and was an "improper assembly" issue. I do have a printout from the dealer on the service history. There is no operation explanation just " op codes " #110011 and #161011 and the descriptions are cyl hd subassy (w/o all vlv) and water pump assy &/or gskt. Strange a water pump needs replacement at that mileage. Also, there was a 5K service done, a certified pre-owned PDI, an alignment, and multiple "unknowns". Can anyone translate dealer service option codes?
  11. My wife's 2000 with 75,000 is at the dealer being serviced. I asked them to listen to the engine for a ticking noise. They explained that it needs a valve adjustment ( very expensive due to labor - camshafts have to be removed ). It is my understanding that this generation LS400 has hydraulic valves and does not require valve adjustments as part of the preventive maintenance. The service history indicates that the cylinder heads were off the car at 49K by Lexus (why I do not know). Could they have been not adjusted properly on the reinstall? I'm out of the powertrain warranty by miles but not time. This car is clean with no accidents and 80% of the services were done by Lexus. I'm generating a $1,600 bill between the service and repairs covered by an extended warranty. I asked the service advisor to ask the service manager to goodwill the valve adjustment. 2 days later he told me no. Let me mention that the car runs great. It's the noise that bothers me. I plan to call the service manager on Monday to discuss this further. Any ideas or suggestions?
  12. First I would try inspecting the tires visually and with my hands. It would be very easy to do if the car was on a lift and you could address things form underneath. High performance tires can develop flat spots if the tires sit for a long time and the rubber compound is soft enough. Once the tires heat up things will improve. Also I would find a flat level section of road. Stop the car and then let your foot off the brake and let the car roll. I think tire technicians should be perceptive as to the condition of the tires they are trying to balance. It may be worth it to appropriate a half an hour to an hour's worth of diagnostic time to know where you stand.
