  1. It sounds a lot like a cracked egr pipe to me. I look back on the day that I capped mine off with great fondness because a cracked egr pipe really makes a fine car like the LS sound like a jalopy!
  2. Here's one of the better solenoid threads with many pics to go along with it: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...amp;hl=solenoid
  3. I rolled past 300,000 miles yesterday, and this old car still runs and drives wonderfully!!! I'm looking forward to many, many more trouble-free miles.
  4. You didn't screw up at all. What you read on the forum from some people stating that you have to use the red Toyota coolant is complete and total bs. My factory repair manual and owner's manual says that the coolant only needs to be ethylene glycol type; never do they make any reference to a specific brand of coolant. The doom and gloom stories about what might happen if you don't use the Toyota coolant sound convincing, but I've got my own experiences that prove otherwise. I've had green coolant in my '95 for over 150k miles with no cooling issues at all.
  5. That seems like a pretty decent price considering the miles and condition of the car, although low mileage isn't as big of a selling point on a LS400 as it is on other cars, at least not to me. LOL Also keep in mind that the 90k service is right around the corner, and if you're not a DIY'er, it's going to be $1k+ for that service.
  6. I'm running my ipod on a very old Philips cassette adaptor that works just fine and never triggers the auto reverse feauture on my pioneer headunit.
  7. James, I'm getting there, slowly. I wish that I was the mileage king that you are! ;) I haven't been driving as much as I usually do, but I did roll past 299k this weekend (just over 3 years ago it only had 224,000 miles.): Not a chance. The 430 and 460 interiors are more glamorous, but not higher quality. Your thoughts GKL??
  8. In a perfect world, I would have a cashmere beige 1998 LS300 turbo diesel with custom driver side seat tracks, no sunroof, and factory xenons. It's a shame that we don't get the IS220d in the USA; Lexus thinks we want hybrids instead, ugh. :chairshot:
  9. Jon, I have not had this code on my car. Hopefully it's just the fuse, and not the computer! You're right, we do have some good lookin' cars! Let us know how this turns out.
  10. Gill, I'd start with the plugs and wires just like you mentioned. ;) I had the same codes because I had filled the spark plug tubes up with water while cleaning the engine. LOL :chairshot: New plugs and wires did the trick for me.
  11. The two things that really stand out in my mind are the car's style (especially the rear...love the hidden dual exhausts.) and of course the quality (Lexus doesn't build them like this any more!). I have almost 300,000 miles on mine with no serious failures. The original 4.0 and tranny are still in great condition even with all the miles on the car. Hwy fuel economy is excellent too, I get 26-27mpg.
  12. Jon, welcome to the club! Here's some info on the P1600...
  13. If you would see the car in person (and without the chrome rims and mud flaps), it is actually very handsome. It is a hell of a lot of car for a base price around $23k. My one complaint is that it should still be named the Five Hundred. Omar, I must have read that same article as you either in MT or Car and Driver where they really gave the new Taurus a great review. I think the one thing they weren't crazy about was the handling, and that's no shock since this car is not meant to be a driver's car by any stretch of the imagination.
  14. I used these instructions to program a remote (hyqwdt-c will work on a '95) for my '95.... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...ic=9825&hl=
  15. Wow, congrats Robert!! I love the dark blue color! A thorough cleaning and lots of fresh air are going to be your best friends in this situation!
  16. I have the 8500 X50, and I'm very pleased with it. It alerts me with plenty of time to slow down and the false alarms are few. I wouldn't mind having the V1 just for the directional arrows, but $400 was more than I wanted to spend. With laser and instant on radars, it's still very important to keep your eyes peeled for the "fuzz."
  17. I'd get the 745....just because I LOVE the way they look, and they drive nicely too. I hate iDrive, but I'm sure it just takes some time to get adjusted to it. The keyless start is a big turn off too, since you have to stick the fob in the dash and then press the starter. Their is autotrader and cars.com for when the car starts giving you too much trouble. LOL You can't go wrong with a LS430, but I'd have to pick the '04 over the '03 just for the keyless start/entry.
  18. You need a new ECM. The new part number is: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...699&hl=dies
  19. Congrats Jim!!! I know this was a long time coming! haha What was it that made the Magellan stick out of the pack and win you over? I still toy with the idea of replacing my old Garmin iQue3600 with something a little more modern, but the more reasonable side of me asks why since my Garmin still works wonderfully even on its 2003 software. I guess the idea of updating comes from when I look at the cost to update the software; it's almost as much as a whole new reciever. I understand where you are coming from here. My Garmin is picky about syncing up with the satellites sometimes! I'm thinking about getting an external antenna to see if that helps me any (I hear good things about them.). I'm anxious to hear how you like the mounting position of the GPS....hanging over the phone! LOL ;) ;) One of the many advantages of a portable GPS: you can enter your destination it while you are driving!!!!!I sat in an Infiniti M35 once....loved the headroom!! Legroom was better than Lexus (which isn't saying much.), but not up there with the Germans....of course!! They are really good looking cars too...
  20. To me, the leather rejuvinator smells like 1 part Yankee Car Jar leather and 1 part a mixture of all the chemicals under my kitchen sink. Too much chemical smell, and not enough leather smell. I don't know if the leather is coated in the RX330 or not, but if it is, regular cleaning is more important than conditioning is.
  21. LOL That's true! The only thing I've ever bought from them is the Leather rejuvinator, and that was a mistake. It smells bad; it doesn't have that leather smell or make the seats softer like Lexol does. I like invisible glass and newspaper for the glass...
  22. Congrats on the promotion, and it's wonderful news to hear that you are doing well, Josh!! PS For those of you who also don't know what a combat action badge is, here ya go LOL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Action_Badge
  23. I had to do the same thing to my lighter a few summers ago. Once you have the wood grain out, you need to remove the screws that hold the ashtray to the larger trim piece--there are probably 4 of them. Then, I believe there are two screws (one left, one right) that hold the ashtray and it's frame (for the lack of a better term) together. After that, you just pry the ashtray out, and cover your eyes because the two springs that make the ashtray open could come flying out--I still haven't been able to get those back in. It really makes no difference to me though because opening the ashtray manually is well worth not sweating and not having to stand on my head to replace that fuse. Once you remove the ashtray from its frame, you will see the back half of the cigarette lighter that needs to be tightened. Read this while you have ashtray in your hands, and it should make a little more sense (if not, let me know), I hope!! LOL
  24. I wouldn't worry about high miles. The powertrain in the LS is VERY strong, and it is capable of high mileage with basic care. I put over 2500 miles on my 296k mile LS last week (went to Michigan and back). The car did fine, and my fuel mileage was excellent (highest was 27mpg, and lowest was 25.)!I would, however, familiarize yourself with the problems (and repair options) that the power steering, electrical, and suspension componets will most likely face.
