  1. Yeah, don't worry, I'm sure it's just fine. Disconnecting the battery does not affect the odometer because it's stored in a flash memory I believe. I wouldn't worry about the aftermarket battery either. Sometimes batteries die quickly; it's strange but it happens. Enjoy your new car :) .
  2. Here's a couple pics of what the odometer looks like.... From looking at it my guess is that the odometer motor is still working but one of the plastic gears has been stripped or has jammed up. This would explain the "clicking" noise some of you have experienced.
  3. My website is Lex L S dot com, that's how you say it at least. I don't have a tutorial for cleaning this yet but it is on my to do list. It's going to be this spring probably...starting to feel like winter in Minnesota now ;) . Great link 99lsguy.
  4. Oh, if your odometer isn't working then that's probably it...you should have said that before....it's an important piece of the puzzle! I'll take a quick look at my spare clusters to see if I can find anything that may help.
  5. I doubt it's your instrument cluster. There really aren't any big moving parts in it, it's mostly electronic. The fact that it makes a sound while moving only should tell you it's not the cluster :whistles: .
  6. Yeah, check junk yards. Also keep an eye on ebay. Many junk yards put up parts for sale there too.
  7. I have large 5 gallon containers so collecting used coolant is not a problem. Altogether after my coolant flush I had 6 gallons to dispose of. It's probably illegal to pour it down the drain anywhere, I know it is here. That's why I bring mine into the recycling center.
  8. It's very easy. I have a used one I would like to sell, it's works perfectly. Email me if you're interested.
  9. I think the long life red coolant is fine. I haven't heard of any problems with it. It's probably better than the green stuff. If you want to know how to on an LS: http://www.lexls.com/coolant.html It's a job but I think you can do a perfectly good job if you DIY. Yeah, it can be a little messy. I don't see how disposal of used coolant is different than any other fluid. Collect it in a large container and bring it to your county recyling center.
  10. It's probably cracked/broken in some way and needs to be replaced. This issue was discussed not too long ago.
  11. You can keep looking on ebay unless dcfish has one that works for you. However, I would recommend installing an aftermarket stereo....better sound, more power, more options..... If you're going to pay for a replacement why not install something better than the original? just my 2 cents
  12. I have one I think was the culprit through my own testing. I can't say which one exactly right now because I currently don't have a multimeter that tests capacitors and don't have my materials out. I bought 2 non working clusters on ebay to do testing. Once it snows here I'll be more likely to keep working on this :whistles: . Right now I say just replace all the caps on the power source circuit board. There aren't that many. I will eventually sell a kit to fix this problem on my site. If you need parts PM or email me and I'll get my !Removed! in gear on this.
  13. C142 and C147 capacitors do not exist in 90-92 LS's. Although the clusters look the same, 90-92 clusters are different than 93-94 clusters ;). The fuel gauge problem has nothing to do with the fuel pump or floater in the gas tank. You are right about re-capping. This fixed the fuel gauge problem on my 91 cluster. My fuel gauge finally goes all the way to the top, and fairly quickly too :D. I have a tutorial for this in the works...I've just been working on all the tutorials 92Lex sent me.
  14. Since you have AS you'll need to replace the entire AS strut assembly. I would say just buy a set of coilovers. This way you can keep it at roughly stock ride height or you can lower it if you want.
  15. You just need something 33mm in diameter to push out the bushing....a socket, a couple washers, a machined piece of metal or "punch"....whatever works. ;)
  16. I think it's probably either the No. 1 or No. 2 speed sensor. When one of these fails the speedo stops working. It sounds to me like one of these sensors is about to fail. There is a test to see if the sensors are functioning properly in the repair manual, check that out.
  17. So you've got the cluster and trim for the cluster...both have bulbs. I can't remember what contains the check engine bulb..I think it's the cluster. Either way you'll want to check them all, fortunately this is simple. Just remove each bulb and look to see if the filament is in place. If the filament is broken then the bulb is broken. Sylvania 2721 instrument cluster bulbs will work as a replacement bulb. The stock bulbs DO come out of the blue/black/grey holders and you can pop a new bulb in. Simple.
  18. I don't think I've ever heard of a fuel pump going out on an LS. If you're worried about it then just don't run the tank dry, fill up with a quarter tank remaining. I personally wouldn't change it unless it broke. If you're interested Lextreme has a tutorial on changing the fuel pump, it's really an upgrade since he's running high performance stuff. The upgrade he did in the tutorial is not needed for people with a stock engine. However, it shows you exactly how to take out the stock fuel pump. http://www.lextreme.com/fp.htm
  19. The instrument cluster is totally unrelated to the radio and climate control unit. ca12, your cluster can be fixed by replacing the capacitors on the circuit board.
  20. You want to run the wires on opposite sides to reduce interference and noise. Just run them under the carpet, it's so thick you won't even tell they're under there....that's what I did.
  21. Doesn't your manual say how to change the bulbs? Most cars say how to since it's so basic..... It would be smart to remove the bulb you want to replace and bring it in to the auto store. This way they can tell you what will work ;)
  22. Does anyone know what the recommended interval is for changing the tranny filter? I gave an estimate of 100-150k in my write-up, I couldn't find any info on it in my manuals. Technically, the 90-94's don't have a gasket either, they use that sealant stuff you're talking about. It explains why you only need to torque each bolt to 65 in-lb.
