  1. I agree totally with what silvermate said. You're going to have to send both the wheel and shifter to american stitches to get redone.
  2. Jim sold me one of the first LCD screens he made. It has been in use for about 11 months now with absolutely no problems. I did a tutorial on the install and it is one of my most popular tutorials: http://www.lexls.com/climateLCDscreen.html Jim's screen is a little different than the original, but I like it better. The install is easy if you know how to solder. If you don't then I would recommend paying someone who does know. If you break the unit you'll have to find a used one on ebay, meaning you'll be out at least $300.
  3. Send it to me and I'll post the tutorial on Lexls.com, my contact info is listed there if you are interested.
  4. This should help you: http://www.lexls.com/tintedtaillights.html For the inner lights on the trunk lid...you don't need to remove the grey trim panel at all. There are two velcro flaps that allow you to access the back of the bulb housing (grey piece with two silver colored screws in step 3). Flip those open then unscrew the two screws that hold the grey plastic housing on. Pull the housing out, it contains the bulbs.
  5. Lexuspros.com is one of my link partners. I have talked with one of the owners of the company and he sounded very nice. I have not personally ordered from them, but what I'm saying is it looks like you'll get good service. They responded to my emails quickly and that is a good sign.
  6. I've got a few links here: http://www.lexls.com/lexlinks.html If anyone has other good links I would love to hear about them ;).
  7. Thanks for the kind words about my site guys :D, I am happy it's helping so many people out. Regarding the O/D light...get a transmission fluid flush. I don't think it's a big problem, mine flashes every once in a while. Getting a tranny flush will be good no matter what...unless you've already done so or know it was flushed recently.
  8. I'm interested in doing a tutorial on this for the LS at some time...hopefully mine doesn't start leaking any time soon though! There is a tutorial on rebuilding a PS pump for a Soarer, I think the pump itself is exactly the same: http://planetsoarer.com/Power%20steering%20pump.htm Aaron since you have an SC can you tell me if the pumps are the same, thanks :) .
  9. This will show you how to remove the OEM headunit: http://www.lexls.com/head_unit.html
  10. I've got NGK Irridium plugs and everything works perfectly. A good place to buy spark plugs is: http://www.sparkplugs.com
  11. I wouldn't even consider putting a stock Lexus sub back in, it's crap. Even if you manage to find one chances are you'll need to do a complete recondition of it. My sub didn't have any gasket left and the pictures of subs for sale on ebay usually don't either. The sub is paper thin...back in 1990 it was probably decent for a car stereo but in 2004 there are many better options. It's not even worth the time to deal with it...IMO chuck it in the trash can!!
  12. Go out to Sears and buy the Craftsman oil filter wrench, its the best oil filter wrench I've seen so far...about $13: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?...0&bidsite=CRAFT
  13. Start buying your parts online and do as many repairs yourself and you'll save a ton of money. You definitely did good, I mean, nearly every common thing has already been replaced! I'm jealous :P. Check out my site for lots of money saving info: http://www.lexls.com Here's the DIY hood strut retrofit: http://www.cureline.net/lex/howtos/howto_hood_shocks.htm Oh, and 145k is nothing for an LS
  14. Yeah, hitting a pothole would do it. The problem is that the backing on the needles becomes brittle over time and the adhesive deteriorates somewhat. A major jolt to the car can cause this backing to crack. When it's cracked the needle won't illuminate fully. The good news is that they can be fixed, but I don't know how....yet.
  15. Welcome Changing bulbs is usually pretty easy. Now I don't know much about the 430's but I can give you some guidance.... I can't find a pic of the high mounted stop light but you can check my removing sub cover tutorial http://www.lexls.com/subcover.html it may give you some ideas. If you can post a picture I may be able to help you more. However, if you want to know how to do things on your car I suggest you spend ten bucks and download your repair manual from TIS: http://www.lexls.com/repairmanual.html I hope this info helps you some. :)

  17. You will definitely be interested in my tutorial on this: http://www.lexls.com/tuneup.html As ROYT said, wires should read no more than 25 K Ohms. If you look at the end of my tutorial you'll see resistances compared. It's better if you have less resistance ;) I would love to hear what your readings are...please list them as I have listed them in my tutorial.
  18. You guys are in for a treat..... The only issue of Lexus magazine I received contained this article: 555,000 LS400 :o!!! After seeing this I'm thinking a well maintained LS can go 1,000,000+ miles...roll over the odometer! If anyone ever gets over a million miles on their LS they definitely deserve an article!!! I have a 91 and have over 142K on the clock...."just the beginning...." :D
  19. No problem, just trying to help. Run wires from the HU to the rear under the carpet and then through the holes in the back seat area (you have to remove a few metal plates that are glued on, see pic). If you have 2 10" subs then don't even bother wiring the factory sub...it's horrible, throw it in the trash! Most 1st gen LS subs are so deteriorated they do not perform properly. I only have one 10" sub in my trunk and it's plenty of bass. Of course, 95% of my LS has been sound deadened so it's really quiet, I only hear my music ;)
  20. SFX is the only place I found that had a kit for first gen LS400's. Even professional install shops in my area didn't have anything. Go with the stuff from SFX. I have it and it looks, works, and fits great. http://www.lexls.com/head_unit.html Note: You will have to wire up a sub amp. If you use the harness listed in my tutorial you will lose the sub.
  21. Check out my site if you're into DIY ;) I will have a oil change tutorial coming shortly. I just need to order the filter and gasket.

  23. What is wrong with your current cluster? Do you have backlighting issues, needle lighting problems, or needle function problems? Please explain...you may be able to fix your cluster.....depending on what's wrong.
  24. I'm having a very hard time understanding you. Gramatical skills are important; I cannot understand what you mean unless you write normal...what you just wrote isn't even a sentance. I cannot read your mind man .
  25. It all depends on what your definition of "nice" is. For some the stock HU is nice. I respect that. Hey, the stock 90-94 stereo is better than most stock systems from the early 90's. For some stock is not nice, that's me ;). I took everything stock out of my LS and sold it on ebay. I then installed an all aftermarket system. But hey I love music :D. Some people go wayyyy out and invest tens of thousands into their system.... Like I said, it all depends on what you consider nice. No need to argue about stuff like this, everyone has their own taste.
