  1. the best bet is to go on ebay and check prices on completed items, this will allow you to see for how much actually sell, not how much ppl ask for them:)
  2. agree about 2uzfe, my mistake, while i witnessed 2 cases of snapped timing belt on 96 and 97 LS models that did not resulted in the engine rebuild. this is the reason that leads me to believe that it is a non interference engine, tech at lexus confirmed that only 1uzfe with vvti is an interference engine. my 1996 lexus repair manual also states that all 1uzfe engines prior to 98 are non interference engines, yes the engine was slightly revised in 1995 with lighter conrods and pistons and compression, but please do tell me how does that make it an interference engine? vvti on the other hand will let the piston and the valve collide due in case of the belt failure. i understand that you like to use strong language to make sure that people understand the gravity of the situation, but please refrain from doing so in the future. .
  3. definetly new OEM shocks, you can buy them online and do the job yourself, its pretty straightforward. i got rear shocks for 70$ a piece and front ones for 50% a piece. all OEM toyota parts
  4. its all a matter of how much money you want to put into your engine mods, in this field, the sky is the limit, there are supercharger kits for 1uzfe out there, there are intakes, exhaust kits etc, but i agree with nc211, why? LS engine is very undertuned i agree, this is what gives it its reliability since it is not exposed to the stresses of the sport engine, you can squeeze up to 800 hp on this block without doing very extended modifications, as one person in australia did when he installed 1uzfe in the supra, but in the LS case, engine is restricted by the transmission, which is also programmed for the smooth ride, exhaust, intake and of course ECU. what chips usually do, is they are being attached to MAF sensor and then send modified signals to ECU to trick it into sending richer mixture into cylinders. this means your fuel economy is going to suffer and different components of the engine are going to be but under extra stress, ask yourself again, do you really want it? there are bunch of other car models out there that are a much better fit for modifications. (E.G. civics, thats why i got one:) )
  5. it might be related to that economy light, so i guess you should ask that on the UK or german forums as well
  6. it really is non interference engine, when the belt snaps, engine just dies.
  7. the white smoke comes at any time or just first 30 mins after you start the engine? white smoke might be normal (exhaust condensed water evaporating) or not normal ( coolant leaking into cylinders). depending how long and when you see the white smoke you might be able to find out if its the leak or not, also check the coolant level on a regular basis
  8. did you check if the speedometer itself is actually functioning? if you didnt, i think alldata has a procedure on how to test it, if its not blown it should show an impedance of a certain value.
  9. did it the same way except that i kept the engine running all the time while constantly pouring new fluid into the reservoir. took me 7 or 8 bottles of atf before it turned pink:)
  10. i would suggest you sign up at www.alldatadyi.com to get the howtos and schematics of your engine. not sure about the speedometer, it does not light up or the needle does not move?
  11. this pretty much means that the switch that is responsible for the dimmer and interior dashboard lighting is not working. i assume exterior parking lights are on when you put in the switch into parking lights on mode? i dont have electrical schemes for your year, lets hope another member might be able to help you pinpoint the location of the relay or switch, not sure what it is in your case
  12. not really, i got mine for 34k and its 04 with 43k miles. but mine is CPO, bumper to bumper for 3 years or 100k:) i was thinking of getting one on ebay for 4-6k cheaper but then decided to go with CPO for a piece of mind. too many electrical features in the car to buy it without warranty, i know LS is very reliable but if smth brakes i can easily spend these 4-6 k on repairs. right away the sub died and AC filter message popped up, went to a dealershipt and it got taken care of free of charge, a 350$ value in parts and labor at the lexus dealerships is 109$ per hour:)
  13. they should be backlighted when the parking lights are on. when you put parking lights on, do the controls on the dashboard dim?
  14. it didnt accept your vin number?
  15. hmm, economy light? have not heard about this light on US/Canadian models.
  16. so if i say that your buttons NEVER light up i would be correct?
  17. you cannot, you have to connect it to the batery directly only, do not try to charge it any other way or you risking setting your car on fire or at least burning some sensitive components.
  18. Welcome to the club! Go to lexus.com and register. you can request the manual to be sent to you for free.
  19. do you get check engine light after misfire? there are codes for each cylinder.
  20. like i said, flywheel is covered by a small plastic cover, unscrewing the cover will give u access to the section of the flywheel, it is enough to stick the screwdriver between the gears. my bad if you didnt understand what i was trying to tell you form the very beginning. next time i will try to explain better. and of course there no tranny pulling required.
  21. i got the same problem with mine, the window pops up telling me to start sending the phone book from the phone, but i have no option of sending the phone book on the phone. i tried with few diff phones, no such option, i use verizon wireless phones, chocolate 8500, chocolate 8550 and razr
  22. flywheel is at back of the engine, its a big metal wheel and it has gears on the edge, its not a pulley, its much bigger then the crankshaft pulley. check google for pictures of the flywheel. it is covered by the cover behind the engine, you have to unsrew the cover, but not fully and just stick the screwdriver between the gears.
  23. block the flywheel!!!! remove the flywheel cover and then jsut stick the big screwdriver between the gears, this will prevent the engine from turning. not sure what parts are missing from the list tho:) what else did you have to buy?
