  1. I had the same thing happen to my 90 ls400. I am still baffled. My story is a little different. I finished putting a new timing belt, plugs, valve cover gaskets, power steering idle valve, distributor caps, oil crankcase seal, oil pan gasket, and new timing belt tensioner on the car. It took a long time for the car to start probably because the intense cleaning of the throttle body etc. Now when I start the car it starts fine but wont go above 2000 rpm and shudders really bad. I take it on test drives with the pedal floored and it just wont go. When I get back i see smoke and the catalytic converter is glowing red. I followed the advice for the ignition coil and replaced it but same results. One more thing, I pulled the spark plugs wires of on the drivers side while it was running and no spark. there is spark on the passenger side. that tells me that it is running on four cylinders. I need help on figuring this out. thanks, Lance
  2. Well, I have my car dis-assembled. I am in the process of putting things back together. I am having an issue with the timing belt though. When I go to put the timing belt on with the cams lined up the belt wont go on. When I turn a cam, the belt will go on but then the cam isnt lined up. I understand there is a hydraulic belt tensioner but I dont know how it goes to make the belt go on. The other thing, my crankcase pulley on the timing belt had on "degree" marker ( or any marks to make sure it is in time). This is my first time working on a car's time and I want to make sure that I do it right. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Lance
  3. Do you know where the crankshaft oil seal is located? I pulled the crankshaft pulley off and have the seal but cant seem to find it... Thank you, Lance
  4. Where is the crankshaft seal? The speedometer isn't working, maybe there is a speedometer cable.... I will check all data
  5. Thanks for the website. The speedometer doesn't move....
  6. Hello, I have a 1990 LS400 with 190k miles on it. It is leaking a quart of oil every 2 days. I replaced the oil pressure sensor switch and a new oil filter to make sure it wasnt coming from there. After replacing those items, I started the car and there was no leak until... a couple of minutes then I saw oil coming out under the crankcase pulley. I read somewhere that you have to replace a gasket that is behing the crankcase pulley. I have the motor torn apart and only see 2 gaskets around 2 other smaller pulleys (Timing belt area). The one thing that I noticed was, there was a white colored gasket (RTV) that looks like it was separating from engine. In order to get to this gasket, I have to take the oil pan off and was curious before I go into an "unknown world" if this could be where my oil leak is coming from. Also, my speedometer doesnt work does anybody know what could cause that. Thanks in advance for the help. Lance
  7. Hello, I have an ES300 with 237,000 miles on it and it has a coolant leak on the Valve Cover right above the alternator. I have been driving like this for awhile and now the alternator is dead, probably because of the coolant seaping on it. My question is, how hard of a job is this and what exactly is this called? I want to say that it is a Intake Valve cover gasket. I just dont want to spend a lot of time and money on it. Can you give me some help? Thanks Lance
