  1. use either the impact gun, or put a big pipe on the wrench, and just do it, while ur helper is holding the flywheel. if you dont have a helper, then you have to put the wrench, put it against the ground and crank the car just a bit to loosen it. i did it without cranking, just with a wrench and a pipe over it.
  2. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=43039, check this thread out:) btw I used to live in bethlehem:) nice scenery over there.
  3. he didnt grab it, u use the wrench on that big bolt in the middle of the tool, the tool pulls the pulley off the crankshaft.
  4. well you have to hold the flywheel if you dont want to crank the car, this how me and my buddy did it, one under the car and the other one using a wrench to pull the pulley off. we put a big piece of pipe on the wrench to have sufficient force to remove the pulley.
  5. http://www.lextreme.com/timing.htm this is the howto that i wrote when i was changing mine, it seems u might have gotten a wrong tool, look at the pic of mine and how to connect it to the pulley
  6. r u sure its not the battery? my battery was dying the same way. if i dont drive the car, it would not start after a day or 2. blamed it on the car, checked every part possible only to find out that it was the battery. btw, i would not recommend disconnecting the battery while your engine is running, you can burn a lot of electrical components by doing so. Also, the engine should shut down immediately when you disconnect the cable from the battery, there is a safety circuit that prevents damage to the rest of the circuitry by shutting everything down. it didnt work in your case for some reason
  7. hope you are ok. how fast were you driving?
  8. 95-97 have the same engine as 90-94 LS, just a lil extra power, but no vvti
  9. what i did is went underneath the car, stuck a big screwdriver in the flywheel while some1 was applying the force using the harmonic pulley removal tool:)
  10. why not change whole thing? i changed mine and i got original oem part for like 50$
  11. from what ive seen previously, if the light lights up, it means the the circuitry is working and the heating element is not. you going to have to have that replaced. some people recushion the seat itself since it requires taking the leather layer off. if you search the site you might be able to find a DIY instructions on how it should be done.
  12. agree with above, 2uzfe and 3uzfe are interference engines while 1uzfe engine, which was installed on LS models from 90 to 97 is a non-interference engine and belt failure is not going to destroy your engine
  13. 1uzfe is a non interference engine, so there is going to be no catastrophic failure. your valves are not going to touch the pistons. all you going to have to do is to put the new belt up while keeping the timing settings.
  14. you are right, quiter engine for the most part, i changed mine at 120k. the belt itself was just fine, but one of the pulley bearings started to whine. there is no warranty on the car unless your car is CPO and lexus recommends to change it at 90 while i would not recommend you to do so, all parts are still have a lot of life in them at this rather small mileage:) remove one of the covers and take a look at the belt, check if its cracking and if it is flexible. that should be pretty much it.
  15. LS is much wider then supra, dont think it will fit, btw ur ls has a stock sway bar in front. i dont think u want to change that, its going to stiffen the ride and eventually the body might start cracking since structural integrity on the 92 LS might be compromised by the age and weather.
  16. when the car is stopped, when you turn the wheels do you hear the whining noise?
  17. you are absolutely right, nothing bad about newer models, its more about commonality between them when it comes to the luxury ride:) cant beat lexus quality!!!
  18. took a deleivery of a cpu 2004 ls430 last weekend, what can i say its an awesome car, lots of features, but i could not let the old one go. and to be honest with you, with the same engine block and only extra 30 hp i dont really feel that much of a difference between 2 cars. i put a lot of miles on a car daily and i drove both cars last week. yes the seats are better, it handles the road in a more confident way but the smoothness of the ride is pretty much the same. my mom when got into a new car didnt even knowit was new and just asked about the "new TV " in the dash:) i have over 160k on the older one and after suspension was changed the ride is back to l"ike new" style. the bottom line is, i still love the old car and frankly, if you strip all those fancy features off it is still the same car. not that much was changed from what ive seen when it comes to suspension and quality of the ride. going to keep both of the LSs for the new few years.
  19. why do you want to replace the speakers? this is pretty proprietary stuff, if you do , make sure you check for the impedance, depth and the radius of the speaker before you buy any.
  20. so lcd lights are off in both parking lights mode and headlights mode? when the ligts DO go off, how are the lights on the buttons? are they also off or are they on? here is the sequence i would like you to do 1. monitor the lights when the key is in the acc mode and lights switch is in the off mode. and let me know the status of the lights for LCDs and for the buttons on the climate control and stereo. 2.turn the lights switch to parking lights mode and report the same 3. do the same for the headlights on postion of the switch.
  21. is your check engine light on? nothing in the engine smells like plastic burning, so it might be a plastic bag stuck to your exaust system and melting, happend to me few times. it sure sounds like misfire and there could be bunch of reasons for this, coils, rotors, rotor caps, cables and other electronic components of your car. does it happen right form the start or after the engine is worm? do you feel loss of power when you drive?
  22. by lcd displays going out you mean all the information disappears from the screen or you mean the backlight is out? is it only for headlights or when you put your parking lights on? when u put just the parking lights do all buttons light up? what happens to lcd when you put the parking lights on?
  23. this seems like a more serious problem, you should definetly check out the wire that Danny was talkin about. as to uncommunicative ECU, i would recommend going to the local autozone or pepboys store, they have the tools to get the codes out and i believe in certain areas they do it for free. it is always good to have a second opinion. the when you turn on the AC do you hear your clutch engaging?
  24. just found out that the sub is not working. does any1 know what is the amp location in the car? im not really worried since the car is under warranty but i would like to check myself first to know what i have to deal with when i go to the dealership
