  1. ouch yall. I'ts hard to believe this is the lexus forum. I guess unloved lexi have their share of probs. I'm glad i have an LS and can do most of my own work. I hate to be rude but 5 months in a shop is ridiculous. 3k to put an engine in and it takes 5 months! An engine should be in one week or less. Its not a complicated car. I would sell the car to the mech and move on... to a better maintained corolla. I'm so sorry about your car! I'm not absolutely sure but i think toyota use a special toyota ATF. I know thats the case with the LS. Drain and refill with toyo ATF and get the dextron outta there! Hopefully that solves your tranny hiccups. Good Luck!
  2. Whats up guys? i forgot to tell you guys my dad and i picked up a 94 ls400 for my mother as a mothers day present. 1 owner 143k miles, opal white, anniversary edition. Its pretty awesome. I think we got a pretty stinkin deal for 3 grand. Just needs a good polish and the cluster needs some new capacitors. And some bushings. Otherwise... its awesome. I LOVE ebay. So many deadbeat buyers and desperate sellers. Will post pics after i clean it up real nice. The leather is so much softer than mine. That brings the grand total of 3 ls400s in our driveway. 3 ls400's from ebay $7300, being a lexus owner... priceless... and awesome! These things are so reliable, we're slowly replacing every car in my family with an LS. tomorrow will mark a year since i won my original ls400( in my avatar pic) on ebay! not one mechanical problem... 1 year and 18k miles later. I'm still in love.
  3. I know what you mean. Except for some bushings, i don't think i'll fix stuff like UCA's. The only big ticket item i'm gonna spend on is the Climate control LCD. My car is still solid. I got a little shimmy past 65, but that'll keep me from speeding! :D
  4. I really think your better off finding another car with memory. I think it would be too complicated and expensive to add. 90's are cheap now and it really easy to find a clean one.
  5. gotta love ultra lux! congrats man. Did you trade in the 98? Pics!
  6. That's because I already moved it! ;) dude those cluster lens are not cheap anymore. $160 for a clear piece of plastic! i checked with 2 dealers.
  7. jack, your sc rims look awesome. I don't like em on sc430's but they look great on sc400's and ls400s.
  8. 40k on a 6 year old s-class? I hope that thing has a 200k warranty!
  9. i think you got a pretty fair deal if it was 21k OTD. Especialy considering its a dealer car. Take a pic of the scuff. I bet with a little wet sand paper and rubbing compound you can erase it! Its very easy and takes 10-30 minutes max!
  10. What would I have to do to wire up an OEM CD changer? I have a car that i can take all the parts out of. I have a 93 the parts car is a 90
  11. I just thought I'd tell you guys about My stock headunit journey. I got a 93 ls400 in july 06. The tape player (pioneer) didn't work. I got about 4 replacement pioneer replacements. All of them were faulty. ALL OF them :cries: . I finally got one that worked good. :D But then when the cold weather came, it started acting up. until the car was warmed up the tape player would have awful feedback interference noises. Also if my ipod was cranked up any higher than 3/5ths the player would go mess up with awful noises. Sometimes i could just eject the adapter and put it back and it would be fine. But after a while it wouldn't work and i was stuck listening to the radio or a crappy radio transmitter. Well i would have loved to hardwire my ipod but i don't have a cd changer, so it wouldn't work. I also really don't like aftermarket headunits. They look out of place. If i were to fix my H/U it would cost over $180! (Don't worry most of the relplacements were free under a 30 day warranty.) Well the member Pioneersuby told me nakamichi head units are compatible. Also nakamichi is a tape specialist and their headunits are built much better than pioneer. So i went out and got a 93-94 Nak and guess what it didn't have the same connectors. :( I was bummed. Well i finally got my hands on a 90 nak and apparently 90-92 Naks are compatible with 90-94 pioneers. The sound is so much better! Holy crap! More bass, more treble, more mids. Better all around. It sounds phenomenal. I got some Nak tweeters too and the sound got even clearer. I'm very happy. ok so if you didn't wanna read all that I'll sum it up Pioneer tape players suck. Don't waste your money on them. The sound isn't very good either. Nakamichi tape players rock! Very clean sounding. Better built too. 90-92 Nak headunits are compatible with 90-94 pioneer systems. They have the exact same connectors. 93-94 Nak H/U's are are not interchangable with any other LS400's. The connectors are different. Hope this was a bit helpful!
  12. P400 I replaced my fogs with projector HIDs from ebay, use them for low beams and the OEM fixture for high beam only. Dude thats exactly what i want to do! Any glare issues? Did you remove the yellow fog filter bulb thing?
  13. Just have a dealership check it and look at the maintainence records. If you spend 2-3k on it i think that would be good deal. Drive this car and drive one with 100k on it. Take some mental notes and make your decision. If it were $2-3k i would buy it. Even IF it only lasts 30k more miles without any major probs thats still a bargain. High mileage LS400's that have been taken care of are the best value out there.
  14. fuel economy is just gonna be a perk. LS430's still command big bucks. At least 20 large for a nice clean higher mileage example. (like 70k+ miles)
  15. remember the dimmer on the cluster? All the lights are controlled by that dimmer and go through the cluster. Sucks i know. I soldered some new capacitors. works perfect now. no flashing. If you need the instructions i kept a copy of the post on my computer.
  16. I know exactly what your talking about! if your not delicate with the key it will strip. I just hammered a a star socket into the key and took it off. I took off all the locks. I don't ever want to be stuck on the side of the road and not be able to change my tire. I really doubt anybody wants my wheels, unless they are crackheads.
  17. AAAAHHHH!!!!!! Death of a 5-speed! I'm not sure how much they'll but try n get bluebook retail value if it was clean.
  18. oooh, i forgot to tell you, Consumer reports says that a 1998 LS400 has LESS problems on average than a 2006 Mercedes ML! WOW!
  19. I can pretty much tell you, your car is probably as good as new. Take sweet care of her and she'll purr along way past 300k miles. Don't worry, I didn't sleep for like 2 days when i got my LEX. It had been my dream car since i was 5. Even though she wasn't new , she was mine.
  20. I used denso double platinum plugs. I bought em for a steal on ebay but you should be able to get them for about 7-8$ each. NOT FROM THE DEALER! Even my toyota dealer charges 13+ for denso plats. pretty sure those are oem. like 99% sure.
  21. does it change with the weather? Do they work when its hot outside? Has it ever done this before? Are your needles lit?
  22. haha, i thought it looked like the parthenon. Its the low coolant light. Check it out. Don't wanna overheat.
  23. The 90-94 1uz-fe has a compression ratio of 10:1 Pretty high i think. Right above the gas gauge it says, "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only" There's much debate but to each his own. To me, the risk of lower performance and lower fuel economy is not worth the 5$ I'm saving. $60 fill ups already hurt my pocket so $65 doesn't make much difference. I go by Manufacture Specs. I trust engineers the most.
