  1. denso is a great supplier. everything is built to such i high standard. even the wiper blade inserts are covered in graphite. to make the wipers smoother? all i know is oem and denso is the way to go!!
  2. i had a moderate(by lexus standards) cold idle shake that the tranny mount def cured about 90%. car now accelerates and shifts quicker. cruise control is smoother. wow who knew a $50 item could do soo much! absolutly worth the money
  3. i knew a guy who let his 95 timing belt break. his engine was screwed! 95+ IS INTERFERENCE. 90-94 is non-interference. do yourself a favor and use OEM parts only. The japanese made parts are very high quality. trust me on this. Nothin better than OEM toyota (denso) products
  4. dunno yet man. gotta head to work now. When i get off ( and the car is cooled) i will pay attention to the lurch. I'll take some pics of my old one too to give yall an idea of what mine looked like
  5. i just changed my mount that i got from pembroke pines lexus for $50. I'm happy with the results but i'm starting to think this car will last forever! my mount was original... i think. it was smushed a little bit but otherwise in good shape. Still pliable. I'll have to wait see the effect on cold shifting(had to drive and get some ramps from wal-mart before i could change it), but warm shifting is incredibly smooth now compared to kinda smooth before. car runs better than a car should with 275k! I cant wait to change my engine mounts!! anybody got a good write up for the 1ls? I love my lexus even more now. Parts are a little pricey but worth the price. When using oem parts, a lexus runs like a rolex... Rolexus.... lame sorry :) My car has been sooo cheap to maintain!!! Thanks guys! this forum makes a huge differnce on my wallet! i've saved so much!
  6. For entertainment purposes only - right? Kinda like the glass bowls/pipes in the plastic case on the counter at the gass station with the hand written sign on a brown paper bag that reads: "For Tobacco Use Only" - right? LOL. Brian LOL eggggggg-zackly! those are for tobacco? hahaha... riiiiggghhhtt...
  7. i would stay away from that car. looks abused. You can find much nicer LS400's if your willing to travel. your 91 is clean. That LS is dogged out.
  8. i saw a 92 on ebay with 95 seats. I asked the seller but he said they were in the car when he bought it. I'm thinkin 95+ seats will work perfectly, just splice the connectors. cool now all i need to do is find some cheap seats.
  9. i just replaced mine after buying the filter a whole year ago. Mine had mildew and had so many leaves and dirt. I think it got rid of the stench that came from the vents. I'm gonna inspect my sisters and my mom's this week. i bought mine from the dealer and it came with a replacement sticker in japanese and detailed instructions. So if you buy an OEM one, as long as you know how to use a screwdriver your good ;)
  10. i'm glad the LS still commands respects in other forums. only badge chasers ever have anything bad to say about the LS. :) Boring... but does everything so well!
  11. i find clarkson very funny and entertaining, but most of his arguments are unjustified and stupid. shooting an LS a disgrace. His original review of the LS was positive... sooo... i guess he wasnt always stupid.
  12. wow, if both are clean, the 98 is a much better buy! wow, i've been wanting a 98 for a while now, they might be within reach next year!!! woohoo reliability is the same or better, depending on service records and condition.
  13. these cars age so well that i wouldnt look at mileage, but at service records and overall condition. buy a perfect 93 or 94 LS for about 4k. Keep that extra 2k in the bank to pay for upkeep. I doubt you will spend that much if its clean. Besides 93-94 ls400's have better proportions!
  14. You're absolutely right, and it probably will look totally fine. However, the repair deriving from a snapped timing belt is probably going to be $6.....7,000. Why take a chance? Lexus says change it at 90k, they've got to suggest doing that for a reason. They don't make profit off of dealer service either, dealers are independently owned. This is another area where you're potentially shooting yourself in the foot by being cheap. The vehicle is designed to run on premium. Will it run on regular? Yes. Will it do damage? Potentially. Regular gas doesn't burn as fast which can cause carbon buildup that rubs power and economy. So, while regular may save you a few bucks in the short term (its really not much), its going to cost you in the long term due to poor economy. Lets do the math. The LS has a 22 gallon tank if Premium is $4 a gallon it costs $88 to fill the tank. At 19 MPG thats a range of 418 miles, or $.21 a mile. If you are using regular and saving $.30 a gallon and its $3.70, its $81.40 a difference of $6.60. If your mileage stays the same thats $.20 a mile. So it saves you 1 cent per mile. If you loose 1MPG while using regular, thats $0.21 a mile, no savings. 2MPG? $.22 a mile, costs you an extra penny. Remember, even if the ECU adjusts to the regular fuel and you don't loose any economy at first, you're saving a penny a mile. But the effect of carbon buildup is cumulative. Ultimately, in the best scenario its not going to save you anything, it may even cost you more. The bottom line is these are not cheap cars to own really. You have a very nice low mileage LS, a car that rides and drives better than almost every brand new car on the road. They require maintenance, and they require premium fuel. If you want something thats not going to need these things...you should probably look at something smaller and more economical, like an Accord or Camry. The LS is a great car, and if you treat it right it can be humming like a top at 200,000...300,000 miles. BUT, you've got to treat it right, use the right fluids and fuel, do maintenances when they need to be done like the timing belt replacement and stay on top of repairs. If you DON'T do those things, then these can be VERY expensive cars to own. I agree with this completely. just follow the maintainence, use OEM parts if possible, and actually this car is super cheap compared to almost anything remotely close to this class. I've spent about... less than $500 on maintainence(DIY) and repairs over the past 2+ years and 50k miles. My car is almost at 260k and is still butter smooth. Once i get my escort pony (clean old beater) runnin good, I'm gonna prolly spend about $700 on suspension parts, and more maintainence i've neglected. my LS deserves it. Its too good a car. she still gets prem too. :) I'm amazed that i'm still infatuated with my car.
  15. i wish the ultra lux package was available for the US first and second gens. Also i wish cloth seats were availble in all years in LOADED ls400's. The 98+ LS's fixed most probs.
  16. how much did you sell old faithful for?
  17. sadly this is very true in parts of atlanta as well. I've seen terrible 1994 corolla's with over 200k sell for $4500. I could never take advantage of somebody like that. It all depends on the market and the demand. For some strange reason, a 93 ls400 and a 93 honda civic, are worth about the same in my area. i wanted to get a cheap 5-speed civic to save gas and rebuild my LS but i can't spend 3k on a civic, when i can get a 93 ls for that much or a 95 for 4k.
  18. why do they have to go so young!?!?!? I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! I hope you get fair compensation! I'm glad your ok!
  19. i just filled up and got 16 mpg with 95% city driving. and the AC on. god i wish gas was cheaper.
  20. no no no, thats how much gas i put in my car before it clicked!! 22.3 gallons.
  21. 22.3 gallons! i remember exactly cause my poor LS starting bucking!!! I almost ran out of gas for the first time. I try to fill up within 30 miles of the orange light.
  22. i check my fuel economy at each fill up and i range between 16-20(17-18 in typical driving) in town (depending on conditions and my right foot ) and between 20-25 on the open road. those are my ranges. with normal 70 mph and few stops i avg around 23 on the highway.
  23. if the auction one has passed the lex deaerships inspection, then go for it. that 03 sounds like a steal.
  24. maybe. to be sure, look for a "sports suspension" decal on fenders
