  1. my first car was a 93 Cadillac STS. It was dark red(not quite burgundy). 290 hp was way too much power for me. I wrecked it before i could get a speeding ticket. I only drove the car 3 months. It had bad electronic suspension and oil leaking issues. That thing was a rocket though. I would pick up my friends and we'd cruise everywhere.
  2. 105. I was followin this sweet 06 750li and a 99(ish) 750il. I was on I75 headed north between macon and atlanta. I was amazed how easily it got up there. I knew it was stupid as hell and i could have lost my license but it was awesome to see a lex with almost 230k keep up with some awesome bahn stormers. I was also amazed how easily the car cruises at 90. it feels the same as 70.
  3. No it is not, correct me if I am wrong, only 93+ had available air suspension. Anyways, here in Canada LS400's never had air suspension. all lexus ls400's were available with air suspension. 1990-now. I believe that UCA's are the same for all ls400's (air and spring suspensions)
  4. ok, so the brake wear indicator (red circle) just came on my 93 ls400. The brake job done back in april was done on my sisters 94 ls. Anyway, if i get new oem toyota pads, can i reconnect the little wire on the pads? Or will i need to get a new sensor?
  5. i want his car. my tag would say 600k. arizona cars always seem pristine. i guess dry heat is good. What oil and tires and coolant does he use? Do i really need toyota red? its $20 a gallon
  6. holy crap! 350? dang dude. Lets see some odo pics. Just for kicks! I was cruisin at 95 mph the other day. Couldn't hear a thing. Eek, coulda lost my license. i guess 229 aint nuthin
  7. that will fit. I love that design. It looks great on 1st gens.
  8. yup! they will fit 100%. what are you gonna do with your old rims?
  9. Hi OmarG, The wire's and Spark Plugs were changed at 100,000Miles service. all superior stuff like ngk iridiums and plug wires. Yes a test to find the leak is a good idea, Please dont mind my question as I am not mechanically inclined, What is the pressure test you are doing? where can I do this? how much does it cost?. Those guys want to tear apart my transmission to fix the leak. They say that its the freeze plugs behind the transmission thats leaking. How can they say this without running any proper tests? I am having nightmares just thinking about this. after seeing what crap they did with my engine, just imagine what they will/can do with my transmission. anyways I am taking the car to two different shops to get it analyzed. I will let you know what they say. Any GURU"S out there, Please let us know if you have any idea what is going on, your help will be much appreciated. Thank's. I'm just going to do a coolant pressure test. Pretty much i get a fancy bike pump with a gauge and pump about 25 psi (maybe more or less) into the cooling system and radiator. That way it will increase the pressure and i can hopefully see where the leak is coming from without the car having to be on. I borrowed the tool from Autozone's "tool loan program". Pretty much you pay a deposit and they loan you the tool. As soon as its returned, you get your deposit back. Pretty cool eh?
  10. agh! my car is leaking coolant from the same place! at first i thought it was the water pump. But the water pump seems fine. I'm gonna do a pressure test so i can see where the coolant is coming from. Hopefully it just a gasket or old hose somewhere. Is there any chance that coolant is leaking on your timing belt? it is on mine. I'm sorry i can't be of any help, but please keep us updated. Have you ever changed the spark plugs, wires and dist? I think they are supposed to be replaced every 90k. i've had bad experiences with mechanics, so i try to do everything myself. sorry if your mech is bein lame.
  11. i saw that too! YESS my 93 is clunkin up front. I wasn't gonna fix it.. but for $200 i might as well! wohoo!
  12. hey man. I'm not gonna say its impossible to find a clean 95+ for 4k but... those cars usually go for at least 6-8k.... maybe more. Also air suspension is very very rare on the 2nd gen. So finding a clean, well maintained, air suspension equipped model is gonna be tough. You can get a clean 93-94 for a good price. I'm sure. Good luck with the search man. to answer some of the q's air suspenion equipped cars have 2(for 1ls) extra switches above the ETC Power switch next to the shifter. 95+ only have one extra switch. LS400's are pretty amazing but just look out for bad suspension (both air and regular) , power steering goes out on first gens, and the gauge cluster and AC display go bad on the 1st gens too.
  13. i had the same problem with my ls400. I was freakin out! But thankfully my dad told me about the air bubbles trapped in the system. What a relief! i thought my car was toast.
  14. i paid about 55 or 60 shipped for 1 nak radio from some junkyard in ohio . It was worth it for me. I use my ipod all the time, dont have a cd changer and i hate hate hate the stupid radio. Fm transmitters suck balls too. Oh and i hate the way aftermarket radios look in the Lex. They look cheap and chintzy IMO (no offense to others to each his own :) ) So for me a nak deck was the only solution. You could also have a specialist rebuild your pioneer but thats pushing $180... and pioneer doesnt sound as good. Seriously though, nak tape players sound like cd players. They are fantastic. They produce very little hiss. Hope this helps! :D There is a reverse, its radio button 1. OMG found one on ebay. Buy now LKQ is great. buy now dude! ends in 40 nimutes http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-91-92-LS...sspagenameZWDVW
  15. Pioneer; would it make a difference? I guessed as much...It totally makes a difference. Pioneer tape players suck major balls(after 15 years). They hiss alot and they go bad all the time (very un lexus like!) Trust me, i bought so many pioneer stereos , about 4, not including the faulty ones in the cars(2 ls400s). Thats 6 faulty decks. There is hope though. Find a 90-92 nakamichi. They have the same connectors and the tape player is awesome and sound is much clearer. Also you will get a more bass, mid and treble. Never skips much less hiss and they are very well built. DONT GET 93-94, they wont fit. Trust me. Find a nak! 90-92.
  16. i agree with you completely. If i was a paid well, i'd let someone else do it. Sadly... I'm not. All in good time though. :) Did they finish it??
  17. good luck man, i'm glad you found your problem. hit up ebay. there's a guy from LA selling ls400 stuff. I might be worth it if you wanna save a few bucks. I know i couldn't afford to pay somebody else to fix my car. but i'm only 19 too soo....
  18. A year ago i was driving back from Chicago in my new(to me) ls400. It had 210k and was lil dirty and had a lil rust. It ran perfect though, and still does. 1 year and 19k miles later (a I'm still in love. I've kinda neglected to clean her up the past two months but thats all changing now that i got some free time. I know this is kinda a lame post but i thought my ol' pearl deserved a post. Will post some pictures as soon as she's presentable. Hows everyone's cars doin?
  19. have you had your car exclusively maintained by the dealer? How many miles does it have? Lexus sometimes will give you a goodwill warranty, if you maintained your car and ask nicely. No joke. I was looking through some old maintenance records of my old ls400 and the owner got free Upper control arms about 3 years ago. All he paid was labor. The car had 160k at the time. Lexus will work hard to keep you in the family. And this goodwill warranty works for both the dealer and the consumer. He bought an LS430 and an RX330 from them. its win-win-win. Also remember dude, lexus parts are expensive but Lexus is in the same category as BMW and Merc, so the prices are high, but not unlike the competition.
  20. i just got back from a long trip and i have some numbers. 24mpg over 225 miles all highway but stuck in bad traffic for about 30-45 minutes. Ac on 75-80 the whole way. Empty car. Just me. then 28.5mpg over 335 miles ac/ off, full trunk , 55-65 whole way, sunroof open, window occasionally open. I really feathered the car to get 28 mpg. When i saw 320 miles and still half a tank left, i was proud of what i accomplished. When I'm more aggressive with the gas i average 22-23 with ac on. Hmm is it worth it to drive like a granny? City mpg can be as bad as 15, or as good as 22. all depends on my foot and ac... i think.
  21. preacherman, your rear windows are supposed to go down like that. kinda weird i know.
  22. 180k aint nothin on a maintained ls400. Even neglected ones can still run great with a tune up and fluid change. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-LS400-...1QQcmdZViewItem this will give you an idea of how long ls400's last. Keep in mind the car still runs fantastic. Make sure not to get air suspension btw. If its been taken care of and maintained, the car will be nearly bulletproof. Just check for clunks in the suspension (usually just bushings), leaky power steering (the main ls400 fault), and all other problems are minor fixes. I trust my ls over any other car of the same vintage.
  23. I've heard that about Lexus only using Toyota transmission fluid. I'll check into that. Trust me - Your 1993 ES uses Dexron-II/III ATF It wasn't until later models that they switched to Toyota Type T-IV ATF. I wasn't sure... i'm no es expert! At least now i know sorry for the misinformation :)
