  1. I own a 99' Ls and the car is fantastic seems like all it requires is just oil changes and gas. My car currently has about 115k and I need to get the Waterpump and timing belt done here in the spring time. But my question for now is around the brakes. Has anybody had any problems changing their own brake pads? Or is this car similar to other when it comes to changing the brakes? My wife has an Acura RL and her brake pads were very simple to do and took about 30 mins to do.
  2. I would have to sell the LS is I was in your shoes...The LS's are great cars and even great family vehicles. The reason I say sell is because you will get better re-sale value on your LS and Lexus seems to sell alot better. But its hard to argue a car vs SUV, because 9/10 the SUV will win due to the space especially having a baby and they seem to be more feasable for family needs.
  3. Thanks for the reply. That is where I am, just hoping someone could change my mind.
  4. I agree with Eagle33...Congrats I wouldn't worry about to much with only 65,000 miles your car still has 10-15 yrs of life easily....I would just drive it until something doesnt feel right or things start going wrong, you probably will be set until your 90k service if not longer....The LS's are machines and can be expensive to fix but definitely worth it after they are fixed.
  5. The Check Engine light came on first, then the VSC light came on second, today I am going to go to my mechanic and have him pull the code and clear and see if that takes care of the problem. Unless the VSC was on alone and/or before the engine check light, YES.
  6. So, WWest your saying I should have the Check Engine code pulled and have the code cleared and the VSC light will go away..?
  7. Hello all, On Saturday I picked up my 1999 Lexus LS400 and the car is a great car with just 98k miles, that engine is a monster and hands down is the best engine made... Well, on Sunday, I took the car to a local Tire place to price new tires and get a "FREE" brake inspection. And everything checked out fine, the brakes are in great condition, new rotors and pads, I just have to apply more pressure then Im use to but I will get use to that...But when I get home I noticed the VSC light came on and on the dashboard it said "CHECK VSC"...I know it has to be related to the brake inspection...Any ideas? Did they mess up a sensor or do something wrong? I followed the manual to reset it and it worked temporaily but now it is back on and I needed some feedback before I go to the dealership to pay this $100 for a diagnostic. :chairshot:
  8. Hello everybody, What is the cost of getting the water pump/timing belt done whether at the Lexus dealership or independent mechanic? I paid about $650 on my 99 GS300 thru my mechanic...I didn't know how much more for the LS400. Thanks..And sorry if this question has been badgered to death.. :chairshot:
  9. Hey Guys, The car is pretty good shape..Has alot of the service records...new tires...The only thing negative that the owner says is that it puffs out black smoke fromt he exhaust for a few seconds once it starts up after sitting for a few days...But it doesn't do it when its driven on a regular basis..I'm thinking about just putting in a re-built engine since the body is in good shape...I paid $3,500 for it.
  10. Thanks Landar...Your information has been real helpful and I'm feeling more and more comfortable about my decision...
  11. Also here is a picture of the car....Looks like it only has 50k on it.
  12. SO it seems like I will be forking out some major $$ on gas for this LS400..Oh well..I guess I will be parking the LS400 on the weekend and driving my fiancee's Toyota Corrolla..
  13. Well I don't have to much information on the service dates and whats been done..I will find out tomorrow..But I can imagine a car with 438k alot of people would be ify...I am too in a way. But if it lasted that long and still is running strong. I know it could go another 100k. Just my thoughts
  14. I am in the market for an LS400 and I was wondering how much it cost to fill the car up with 92 or above? I know the fuel tank is bigger then my GS300 and that took about $45-50 to fill up with about 13 gallons..How much for the LS400..Thanks
  15. Hey everybody, I am new to the LS400 section. I recently sold my 99'GS300 a few months back and now I want to buy a 95' LS400. I found a nice one that is a 1 owner and it comes with all the service records but it has 438k miles. It was owned by an Executive and he took really good care of the car. Would you guys buy a car with all these miles on them or am I looking at putting out alot of money? These engines are just so impressive, I think this engine could go another 200k miles. Thanks
