  1. sorry for the vague description. All the new fan brackets we bought from ebay were aftermarket. Even the "oem" one from looked like a refurbed factory one at best (stuck in a crushed toyota parts box) newlexusparts.com takes you to an official texas dealer who sends out ONLY new genuine toyota/lexus parts. their price is 165. they don't send aftermarket. i did not buy my bracket from them, but have bought pulleys and sp wires and other random stuff from them. they are great. also i compared the used bracket to my new aftermarket one. both spun exactly the same. I unfortunately bought a used bracket that was at the end of its life. there was really no way to tell.
  2. i put "OEM" bracket on my ls400 and 2 aftermarket on my friends LS and My mom's LS. All got from ebay. 90 each. 100 shipped.I inspected the parts and they seem high quality. No way i would pay 100 for a used bracket when i can get dealer oem shipped from TX for 165. too much work to risk doing over soon. I had to learn that the hard way. I don't think mileage has much to do with failure. I think its age. Mine died at 240k. My mom's died at 146k, and my friends died around 170-180k. All within a month of eachother. Also i got a used one for my friend for $20. It was as smooth as the new one i got for my car. Failed within 2 weeks. the junk car had about 160k on the odo if i remember correctly.
  3. i just took a 500 mile trip. Stuck in bad traffic, hills, overtaking, speeds ranging from 55-85 and cruise on sometimes, i averaged 25 mpg. In mixed driving i get about 20. I have averaged 29 in a 94 ls400. No Ac and top speed of 60 mph with no traffic and coasting to stops to keep momentum.
  4. whatever you can totally compare two old toyotas. avalon is based off camry. huge interior. Nice engine. nice interior. 0-60 in mid 8's. Ls400 does it in high 7's. LS400 based of nothing else. V8 instead of v6 but similar performance. smaller interior due to rear wheel drive instead of FWD. Avalon feels lighter and more nimble because it weighs 500lbs less. Avalon is not as quiet. Not as smooth, or as refined. I was seriously considering an avalon, but i wanted a v8. And the LS400 interior may be smaller, but its much nicer. Also the motorized headrests and huge sunroof are bonuses. 1st gens are gettin up there in age and can be had for almost no money. No other car comes close in value for money. A clean 1990 will be smoother than many newer cars. LS400 ages very gracefully. Avalon not quite as well, but still good.
  5. pay a deposit through paypal. If the car doesnt turn out what to be what you thought, charge it back and call it a day. Never send cashiers checks or wire transfers without seeing the car dude. COME ON! Ebay will just kick them off. They'll still have your 11k. Ebay is full of scams, on both sides, buyers and sellers. If you're gonna buy a car on ebay, fly out on an airtran ticket and drive it home. If you dont like the car, just fly back home. If the car isnt as described when delivered, they'll still have your money. and getting a refund... will be tough. trust me. I've bought 4 cars on ebay. 3 ls400's and 1 es300. All went pretty smooothly. Paid a deposit with paypal, then when i picked up the car, paid the rest. no scams. Don't be put off by this! ebay made my dreams come true. I buy almost everything on ebay. cars, car parts, clothes, shoes, electronics, everything.

    Brake Pads

whatever. I've put mid grade aftermarket brakes on every single ls400 we have (3) and my friend did too on her 92. All our cars stop perfect, make no noises, and dont shimmy. I've have aftermarket brakes on my car for 15k miles and no probs. My sisters dark jade has had em for 20k. no probs. I agree oem is usually the way to go for most parts, but brakes? I dont think it matters. Thats like saying only oem wiper blades are good.
  7. try newlexusparts.com they are in texas. Fast UPS. Free shipping over $100 and best prices i can find. get the item numbers. makes it a lot easier. tranny mount is $2 more but you get free shipping. check it out.
  8. what site? do you have part numbers? i think i need a tranny mount.
  9. you can save about 120 if you have some guy on ebay change your LCD. he sends you a replacement and you send him your old one as a core. no down time. when i get a lil more money i'll do it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lexus-LS400...sspagenameZWDVW
  10. James Sloyan. His voice is amazing. he's been in alot of stuff including playing a romulan defector in star trek the next generation. He's still doing voice work for them to this day. Bigbuggie, i think the same thing about the ls400 crank. :D its a very distinctive hi pitched start. I love it. you're not alone. the 1uz sounds awesome.
  11. WD-40 is probably not the best thing to use on those parts. It has been my experience that it works for a little while, and then wears off quickly. Being a solvent, WD-40 seems to take off whatever lubricant was on the part before it was applied. When I fix my door, I will probably use silicon grease, instead of conventional oil-based ones, due to the amount of rubber seals/gaskets that are in the door. i'm sure you are right. i just did a quick fix because its way too cold to take my door panel off and truly grease it up.
  12. my 93 passenger front door does this in cold wet weather. the problem is the door lock(door latch) gets stuck with the cold weather. i just greased it up with some wd-40, now its perfect.
  13. whats wrong with your old cluster? if you transplant your circuit board into the new assembly you'll retain the old mileage. I can go into more detail if you want.
  14. Haven't replaced anything, so it's a definite possibility, but i'm not getting any sound out of them so I thought perhaps it was either a wiring failure or a channel going out on the Nak. I figured I'd ask here before I went cutting wires and moving speakers around. IIRC, on that '90 the front right speaker was cutting in and out before it failed completely, which is why I suspected it may be something other than the speaker itself. on a completely unrelated note, did your package arrive safely? yea dude i got it. Thanks. I'm in the process of putting the car together. do you want me to paypal you the postage? How's your 93 doin? PM me.
  15. dude maybe the speakers are bad? have you already replaced them? my friends 92 nak lost her driver front speaker. we haven't replaced it yet to see if its a speaker prob or another prob. the speakers on your old 90 were pretty dead. the foam was disintegrated.
  16. The IS is out of my price range. In Ontario if you go 50 km over the limit they impound your car; so im going to try an avoid a car that will tempt me like the IS will. good idea dude! the LS really does conduce good behavior. You can go really fast, but why? cruisin in a serene enviro with some sweet tunes is way better. I've only gotten one speeding ticket in my LS. Thats cause i was yappin on the phone goin 95 mph on the highway. Didnt even realize due to the cars incredible stability.
  17. just get 16's and put 225-55-16's you'll have a correct speedo. personally i think the 93-94 body style is perfect. 90-92 had skinny wheels(didn't fill out the wheel well), small brakes and thin cladding. the 93 refresh made the car beeffier. wider tires, bigger brakes, thicker cladding, and very small wheel well gaps.
  18. now way would i part out a good car. wrecked... yes, f'ed up interior maybe, stolen... hahaha yes (JK :) ) Please dont part out your lexus. you wont get any money for it. 3-400 for the seats, 400 for the cluster, 500 for the engine (if you can find a buyer) def not worth it
  19. my mom's 94 was overheating when we bought it. I was freakin out. all i needed was a new thermostat and bleed the air out. now the car is perfect.
  20. its not blasphemy, if you can afford repairs on the the BMW the go and get it. It drives much nicer than ls400's. I can't afford repairs so i got an LS400. Cheapest car in the class to buy and maintain. Plus its the most reliable and smoothest.
  21. mine went bad and i spent 110 incl shipping. Came from California. I just ordered 2 more(my mom's Ls and my friends LS) from a different seller on ebay from CA as well(first seller ran out of em). Paid 115 each incl shipping. Dealer is around $170+ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-1995-L...28986QQtcZphoto
  22. i'm not directing it to you, just my family has been hit hard by this bad economy. My parents make much less than they did 2-3 years ago and the cost of everything has gone up. So imagine if you had half the money you do now due to the salary cut and inflation/rising living costs being avg'ed in. whatev's tho, we'll make it. What dont kill me only makes me stronger.
  23. 2nd gen ls400's had auto retracting mirrors? cool! at least they only clipped the mirror, imagine a smashed door!
  24. Yea they are lowest in NA but still considering the avg person doesnt make much more money than they did 5 or 10 years ago and the cost of gas has tripled since then it has raised the cost of living for everyone. So the people working to make ends meet are hit the hardest. Why do 3 medium tomatoes cost 2.25? Why is mayfield milk 6 dollars a gallon? This was no gradual increase in prices either. Everything is much more expensive almost over night.. You name it. insurance, gas, groceries, lexus struts (double in price!), electricity. sorry about the terrible grammar i just dont feel like editing everything.
