  1. get one of those mouse sanders. but you'll have too wet sand the lenses until about 2000 grit then polish them with Mother's or something. the best place to look for REAL retrofit instructions and pics is clublexus.com. GS, ES, SC you name it. but an easier solution would be to install the hid's and aim your headlights down so the light isn't horrible. i read somewhere that this works too.
  2. go to advance, napa, or whatever and get a LS power steering hose. $12ish i think. 1' long 3/8"I.D. you'll probably have to cut it in half. you should check the solenoid filter too!
  3. did you double check for all the screws? i used a flat head screw driver on ramps. i hit the four corners then removed the upper piping. ahhhh! it may be the upper pipe tube. try pulling on the bottom tube. that's prob what's stuck. Good Luck!
  4. the tranny overheating could be why the cat was red hot. u may need a new tranny. does it feel like the engine or the tranny is the problem? u should be able to feel where the vibration is coming from.
  5. WOW! i knew about the filter but if replacement does that then that's gonna be next on my list! thanks for the info!
  6. Flushing is a big NO-NO :chairshot: (to me) Good Luck!
  7. Unfortunately many mercedes owners share their HORROR stories here too (not an MB forum). guess it just happens too often.
  8. that's my thought. not too common but does happen. mine leaks too, i'll be doing a tutorial for both sides soon. their is instructions on the SC forum but no pics though.
  9. maybe simpler than you think. when i first got my LS (last march) it was still cold and the heat was great. when the summer came the heat just kept comming no matter what the ac was on, and the only way to stop it was to close the vents completely. changed the spark plugs, wires, coils, and rotors and haven't had an issue since (needed to refill though). not saying this is your problem but these cars are very well built. just something to consider...
  10. i agree. people say it isn't important but the car was designed with it so i'd think it is. lexus-parts has them for about $150 but that body shop should be responsible, since the car wasn't like that before. Good Luck!
  11. i read about a DCsports product display at their plant and directly at the property line the cops were waitng for the people to leave in their cars. why doesn't your friend just use the car at meets and win lots of money off it? get a sponsor? sounds like a nice car, too bad.
  12. got the diy fever, huh? worried you messed up.
  13. so the couplings go on the driveshaft?
  14. i remember a few monthe ago there was a master key question and the answer was that you had to get a new ecu but lexus would pay for it for the first time. but i just got info from Sewell about a key sale and they have a two master key and chip set and instructions that a lexus dealer or locksmith could program it for you. then i saw on retrodrive.net about a key reprogramming procedure. My question is where does the chip go? Thanks
  15. what octane fuel do you use and why are you going into 26-2800 rpm's, drive with the ectpwr on? how many miles, abuse, etc? need more info. sound's like a tune-up to me, when was this last done?
  16. get a flathead screw driver and pop both sides up. more info on Lexls.com under lighting section
  17. You can either have new payments or ongoing repairs and restoration. With the list of "issues" or at least "about to be issues" that you made, you're looking at having to spend hundreds more over the next two or three years as more and more components wear out or break down.....may not be such a bad thing to put your $1,000 down on something newer, with less miles, and with less issues. Sure it's a Lexus and all, but it's 16 years old and has a whack of miles on it and chances are more bills are on the horizon. Take the car to a mechanic for an evaluation and an estimate and you'll have a clearer picture of the car's condition and expected repair/restoration costs. Then you'd be in a better position to judge the trade-offs. Wrong answer. not to be rude but your best bet is to sit down and SEARCH for all the answers that you need right here on this site. i assure you that you'll find dealer prices on repairs, indie prices, and most importantly DIY prices and instructions. the O/D issue may be serious, but a little FREE info will help lots. Good Luck!
  18. i agree with indiasfinest, it's all status. but i have a 90 LS and i notice a lot of people looking at my car while i drive. even at work, where i am the youngest person, when i say that i have a Lexus everyone goes "Wow, I can't afford that car!" even after i explain that it is very old they still feel the same. that's just how people are programmed. I saw a SL600 on my way to work, and i was mad i didn't have a camera. never seen anything like it and probably never will again! just checked the sticker $133K! is it over priced? ask the owner, he'd prob say no. but when i saw him in the car, first thing i thought was "WoW he paid A LOT for that car." that's just how it is, no if ands or buts He paid A LOT for that car! that's what the 3-point star gets you, exclusivity. i think that's what MB focuses on, keeping their cars "technologically advanced" (or as said here, over-engineered) in order to seperate from the market cost wise. and most people feel that the more you spend the better the quality should be. saw the NEW GS last night... BEAUTIFUL. sleek, stylish, aggressive, and RELIABLE! but due to Gas prices i wanna wait for the Hybrid. i think that will push LEXUS into the next Level and make them a benchmark. Hybrid Luxury Cars? in my book genius. you get Luxury, Gas milage, and MORE POWER? :D sounds like a good deal to me? LEXUS always!
  19. when i first got my car the speedometer was broken due to a tranny transplant. that caused the O/D Off light to flash when in O/D. nothing ever really happened but it was $230 for the part alone, "Speedometer sensor" connects to tranny. unfortunately the owners manual just states that if the light blinks then you need your tranny checked out but doesn't list specifics :( Good Luck!
  20. sounds like it may be the battery. did you try and recharge the battery? if so then the real killer is prob the alternator? see what helps and post again! Good Luck!
  21. xenon is the name of the gas that creates the light. the LS had an HID option in '98+ models but didn't have projectors until '04+. the projector is a closed unit that projects the light kinda like an eyeball. there are HID reflectors, where like lexus082 said they will not blind oncomming traffic and produce a massive amount of light. think of the Acura CL's, the last running generation had them. bixenon is like a High-beam/ low-beam headlight setup. the cutoff shield moves downward allowing more light to shine through the lense. Sorry, Lexus doesn't use Bixenons all of the cars have seperate high beams (DRL's) but the new Acura TL's do, certain MB's and BMW's also, but they are rare because the solenoid to move the shield is normally huge. also there are halogen projector that produce good light, think of the Acura MDX, Toyota Celica, certain Audi's also.
  22. No Gasket, No Flush (they kill LS trannies, personal expirence :chairshot: ) clean the filter even toyota will tell you they are reuseable, fill with two quarts of T4. also make sure you've got the FIPG. Good Luck!
  23. i agree with rx330. i think the "NAME" Mercedes with it's rich history as the top of the line brand in most countries will not fold to Lexus. maybe in the long term as the Lexus line grows and more models are added, revised and new buyers are born, then they may have a chance. The person said it best on the other post, it's all in the price. My friend just bought a new E500. $60k base. GS430 $60 at the most. so if you can afford to buy a over priced car go ahead. everyone knows you just spent toooooooooo much on something that you could've gotten for cheaper but then again why to people still shop at Red Lobster, Long John Silvers has lobster bites (in Columbus). HAHA!
