  1. B) thanks for the info!! is the thread rebuilder like anti-seize lub or something else?
  2. hey guys, i just need some info. my drain plug is stripped in the tranny pan and has a slow leak. i just checked with my local lexus dealer and got some conflicting info... the first guy told me that the pan MIGHT still work but i MIGHT have to get it rethreaded. then the next guy said... "there is no saving the drain pans, so if the plug is stripped then i'd have to buy a new $140 tranny pan also." originally i was set to perform a complete tranny flush but not now that i MIGHT have to add a new pan later, and was also thinking about just going to a local auto shop(pepboys) and have them pull the stripped plug so i could add the new plug, but after hearing the "no saving the pan" guy i'm having second thoughts. i know good and well that the dealer are snakes and want every penny they can get but normally they give me good solid advice but in this case i'm not so sure? any info at all would be greatly appreciated!!!
  3. does anyone know the torque setting for the PSP(power steering pump) pulley?
  4. if the sound is comming from under the car it would be a missing O2 sensor? this is just a complete guess but from the sound of the problems it may be. the o2 senser screws into the exhaust pipes so a missing out would probably make a howling, hollow type sound. just a thought
  5. guys you are thinking too hard! go to sparkplugs.com and lookup sparkplugs for your model and year! toyota tends to use the same specs for everything so the ones that came with the car are gonna be the ones that aftermarket manu's will make. more than likely your car came with denso platinum so of course denso would make plugs that are gapped to the correct settings, also go direct to denso's site and get the recremended plugs
  6. watch out when you open that cap! ps fluid can KILL electrical components (alternator, maybe oxygen sensor) i'd use a plastic bag to cover the ps unit just in case! good luck!
  7. the lexls site should work for you as far a diagonstics go. if your engine isn't vvti then the timing belt should be a non interface and accessable under the LH spark plug cover look at the sealant on the water pump and surrounding area. is it clean? dirty? old looking? if it isn't clean then the water pump wasn't changed. period. for a new water pump the old has to be removed and the only way to add a new one is to clean off all the old sealant! also BEWARE OF SHADY DEALERS. if your mechanic doesn't drive lexus just works on them then what does he care if the parts are changed or not? just my two cents
  8. morq, you said you were having problem shifting from P to D or R? did you hear a loud clunk and then the car lurch forward and if it's eager to get rolling? that's the problem on mine but i suspect it's the super old tranny fluid, but if that worked for it might also work for me :) congrats on the resolved issue!
  9. pssssssssssssss! you know what i found out. go to the local dealer but talk to the parts department! do, i mean do not go to the service department! the parts department is just as knowledgable (LEXUS certified) but will be much more willing to help you out! they should help you diagnose the problem just by explaining it to them. trust, they've heard a million problems just like yours and they don't do any service so their advise will be less $$$$$ driven
  10. the car might not be making enough power; my 90 ls used to have numerous issues. sometimes at night when the headlights were on( no fogs or brights) and i'd hit the brakes the car would shudder and the light would dim, and on occasion the whole car would temporarly lose all power. when i got my new alternator that helped alot and also the tune up really helped. i know this has nothing to do with the a/c but at the time my a/c only blew hot air so didn't really have time to turn it on. i mean so hot rolling the windows up even when it rained wasn't an option. the new alternator fixed that hot air prob. and the tuneup made the system actually work even though i had no freon. these are some things you might wanna have checked or just go to pepboys for a $30 a/c check(if you trust non lexus service) good luck plus if you need new equipment check out irontoad.com lowest prices! as a side note, i've read about many people who went to the dealer for the 90k service and got their car returned with more problems than it when in with? most people say that they've got a ticking issue with the no.3 cylinder but now you've got the a/c problem. have you heard anyone else have issues with the 90k service. the issues i'm refering to is on cl but i notice a pattern? <_<
  11. yeah got the same problem at high speeds, really not sure what it is (dealer cahrges too much) but form what ive read a new suspension fixes most high speed rattling problems for added protection look into daizen products. they only make lexus parts and i hear that they're like oem only better. price ain't bad either. there is a DYI on lexls.com for the UCA and LCA's and how to reuse the stock components with the daizen bushings. on my to do list! good luck
  12. feel bad for all of you with these problems. my only suggestion would be to check out autorepairmanualcd.com and pick up a manual. should show you how to do the injectors. just bought mine(not here yet) for 25. also try and use some fuel sys cleaner and ONLY premium gas highest octane prefered
  13. yeah i hate when the tranny lurches and pulls. the who sold me my ls told me he had just changed it and the filter... WRONG. just outta curiousity i did it my self and also noticed a dark dark maroon color. almost made me sick. anyways you can add a partial tranny flush just go to lexls.com and do a flush with a gallon milk carton so you can measure when 4qts come out (3.8l maybe) and add accordingly. too bad for me just went to change the fulid again and stripped the nut :cries: oh well more new stuff :chairshot:
  14. just buy a repair manual on cd. got mine for $25 :D just visit autorepairmanualcd.com when i get my new sc3 gonna have the manual same day
  15. i just bought my car a few months ago (90ls400 w/186k+mi) and i had that problem also. whenever i would park and go to sleep or when i would go to work for 8+ hrs it would normally take two cranks to turn the engine. honestly it never went as high as three or four but when i got a tuneup it all changed. my suggestion: vitek wires and ngk or denso! iridium plugs plus new caps and rotors wouldn't hurt either :D also you can DYI just visit lexls.com good luck with your new ls
  16. yeah my power steering pump is leaking pretty bad. it already killed my alternator and i think one of my main oxygen sensors. the easiest way to remove the alternator is to disconnect the two connectors and then rotate it upward, meaning that the pulley points up then slide it between the hoses and line that are under it. hey thanks for the info on the success of the new PS pump. i am going to change mine before i do the oxygen sensors. lexls i will try to get some photos for you
