  1. hey all i just replaced BOTh the ignition coils on my 1994 sc400 (148000 miles). I dunno why, but ive been driving it a few 100 miles since then. I FEEl perhaps that i am getting extra resistance on my acceleration (it used to accelerate sooooo smoothly before) and i just feel that it pickups at abt 80-90% of what it used too.. i just dunno abt that? any ideas?
  2. hi.. i made the mistake of giving my 1994 sc400 to some godawful local mechanic, who secrewed up the work on me timing belt, and it 'jumped timing' a week later. its been at this new mechanic's for 2 weeks now, who is trying to figure out the problem with the engine,, he's sayign altho theres no structural damage, theres no 'pounds of pressure' from cylinders 1,3,5,7 [cylinders on the left side] when he did the 'compression test' , so he's saying now that the cam-shaft MAY have jumped timing or is mis-timing? he's ordering the sepcification manual from lexus to furtehr tackle the problem.. whats this guy talkign about? is he just taking me for a ride?
  3. hi all, i had posted a few days ago to ask abt help abt my car which was all-of-a-sudden opearting on 50% power and giving major vibrations. its a lexus sc 400 1994, which i recently took to a local mechanic for a timing belt change. a week later i developed these problems and i take it to a luxury car specialist mechanic. we stood there and dissambled the top assembly of the timing belt, and he showed me its various parts, while it was still connected. it turns out that IT IS STILL THE SAME OLD TIMING BELT AND WATER PUMP in there !!!! the lettering on the timing belt is very faded and its an original toyota belt. why shud a local mech. be having a genuine toyota timing.belt ? the crook of a mechanic prob. saw that its still good for 20Kmiles and figured it'd last a yrs warranty. but he must not have put it back properly, becoz the timing 'jumped' last week and gave me those problems mentioned above. i hope there is no damage to me engine. i am going to him today and asking for money back + compensation, or i am going to the police to file a case in small claims court, and to the better business bureau. i wanted to ask if anyone has had prior experience with the two? i mean , i cant afford expensive lawyers and dont want to get into timeconsuming complicated legal affairs. i have heard the better business bureau is quite helpful, and since i will have a statement with my new mechanic that the belt was never changed, i think i have a strong case. we are taking photographs and are not touching the belt till we speak to the police/bureau. any advise/suggestions? thanx again and sorry for the looooong post. godddamn crooked mechanics..
  4. thanx for all the advice.. im getting the spark plugs/some wiring checked tomoro.. i can swear i can smell something burning.. i just got me timing belt changed last week froma local mechanic. somebody thot that culd be the problem, perhaps the belt is out of sync or sumthin.. also ive been filling 87 octane like an idiot thinking it'd be ok for 10 yr old car (ive driven it 1500 miles = 90 gallons) i shud perhaps be using 91-92 octane.. premium fuel.. i hope me cat.converter is ok.. dont have that kinda repair money/ thanx
  5. did the handbrake get 'stuck' or sumthin.. ? it is all the way down,,
  6. i just got the fright of my life when i started my 1994 sc400 (150kmiles) this mrnin. its giving me a rumbling noise all of a sudden (has always been oily smooth,, ive bot the car at 145 k miles), it's not accl beyond 30-35 mph, and i culd swear i smelt something burning when i parked the car at me wokplace after drving for 1 mile. im gonna check it as soon as i get off work.. what the hell is going on ? i just got me radiator and timing belt changed recently..
  7. hi everyone... i recently purchased an sc400, 1994 (148,000 miles) . a month later i notice that the engine coolant light was coming on. i put in more coolant but it seems to empty by exactly 1.5-1.75 litres in a time-period of 2-3 days. every 2 days i need to put in that quantity of water'/coolant. i believe my radiator is cracked/developed a leak at a specific higher level, which is why it is remaining about 85% full (9 litres of 11 litre max capacity). how much would it cost for a used radiator? i am getting some quotations of 150-175$ at www.radiator.com, www.partstrain.com, and www.carpartswholesale.com does anyone know what the labor charges might be at a local mechanic? abt 100 $ ? or is it better to get my existing radiator fixed/welded? thanx jimmy.
  8. has anyone had to replace their sensors for their taillights... where can i get these sensors? at what cost? would anyone know what the name of the sensor is for the tail-lights for the 1994 SC400 thanx...
  9. yep.. the problem seems to be with the switch, he maintains.. theres not enuf power reaching the taillight, and he sees that as being a switch problem thanx..
  10. We have a 1994 SC400 that we purchased a week or so ago. When we got it, the back tail lights were holding water and none of the tail-lights on either side would work. We changed all the bulbs. Well, everything worked except the tail lights. the brake lights, front headlights, left right indicator lights all work.. the mechanic checked all the fuses. replaced the bulbs. the taillight bulbs are not getting enuf power, hence they are not coming on. the mechanic suggests changing the switch. (as in the mechanism conected to the steering wheel that I control all my lights with). im looking at probably 300$ (150$ for switch and 150$ for labor) i think. im still a student and that is a hefty price for me.. anyone gone thru a similar probem? any suggestions? where is the best place to buy the switch? from a lexus deaker? u can email me at jimmykatyal@hotmail.com, manav_katyal@rediffmail.com, or call at 678-793-2969. much appreciated..
