  1. do a google image search. make sure you select images from the menu (top right)
  2. sorry cant tell on 98 LS since the alternator was moved to a diff location the the 90-94. sounds like your starter? when you get a new battery do you check the old one? is it still good? to me it sounds like the starter is not getting enuff volts or the solenoid is not being activated except with a new battery? but dont take my word for it check GrandLS4's thread about the 98 LS starter and symptoms Go Here: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...&hl=starter
  3. yeah :chairshot: j/k check out the buy/sell forum for new parts!
  4. Hi, i need a tranny pan and lower engine shield. cost plus shipping please.
  5. Thank You Sir! now for some updates! this is after sanding w/ 1 page of 400 wet sandpaper. 1 more page to go then 600
  6. I was thinking that it might be the 02 sensors. What Grade of fuel do you use and what brand? Yes the brand is important: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=41855
  7. I am so jealous of your Fog lights. the extra lights in the bumper are only on the Euro spec LS!!! Looks very nice! Congrats!
  8. $65 per install or strut? $130 is a steal or maybe too good to be true? here check out some of the work involved in the Rear strut removal/install http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=38910 As for the struts there are many place to purchase, my fav being Ebay power sellers. one thing to consider is that the KYB's on ebay do not match the part number found on Autopartswarehouse ebay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KYB-GR-2-Gas-Shocks-Struts-1990-1994-Lexus-LS400-GR2_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem170163904677QQitemZ170163904677 APW:http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search/?N=10991+1656+4294967023+5609 but you can find them on any parts site like Autopartsplace.com and any Lexus site Lexus-parts.com Parkplacelexus.com Irontoad.com etc. may even want to check out the local Toyota dealer but bring the OEM part number Also check out this thread about the differences between Aftermarket vs. OEM http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=42047 As Far as the loose rear end it may be the axle carrier bushings or a bad tire http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=42231
  9. If the alternator is dying then the Power Steering Pump is leaking on the alt. Common issue due to design flaw. if you look at the pump return hose and it is leaking the the alternator is about to be toast! mine would work when on the freeway and driving over 70 mph but anything below caused the Alt to lose power and warning light started coming on, so the car may run but the more you turn the wheel the more fluid spills. here check this out: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=42197
  10. prob a vacuum leak. check the throttle body gasket. mine had a very minor crack and was causing this. The reason why the lights come on is because the key is in the "ON" position but the car (alt, engine, etc) is no longer running. But the "check engine" light should come on for a split sec so there should be a diagnostic code stored. one thing about mine was that the car idled great until the engine was warm then the idle would drop out at 0 and engine dies. everything else still worked and the car would start fine, but i also had to keep a little pressure on the gas pedal to keep the idle above 0.
  11. Be Advised that each year LS may have a different route. The car on Lexls is a 91 which has many different Hoses routed than my 90, but there should be a pic of the vacuum lines under the hood (next to the belt pic)
  12. i would change both. look at Lexls.com for pics. If the ball joints are bad most likely your UCA'a are too. it is actually the UCA which produces the loud clunk
  13. well the good news is that you are proactive and not reactive! if the Alt is going then the Power steering pump is leaking. Check this by removing the air intake parts until the MAF sensor or just look at the return hose on the PSP (pwr steer pump, look for the upper hose). If the area is wet at all then you have a leak. The Alternator is located directly under the pump (bad design, Lexus is to blame) but the hose can be replaced with at cheap hose from NAPA autozone PEP boys, etc. Your Alternator may die down the road but I lost two in one year (3 total) but after the pump is fixed all should be fine!!
  14. Strange thing is that the code 71 only appears on Calif. Spec LS400's. may or may not be a large issue since CA has some of the strictest emission laws in the nation. but the book says: 1)Check For Air Leakage in EGR system 2)Check EGR Vacuum Modulator 3)Check VSV with engine cold; Check VSV and EGR vacuum mod w/ engine warm 4)Check EGR valve 5)Check VSV for EGR 6)Check voltage between terminal EGR of engine & ECT ECU connector and body ground 7)Check harness and connector between engine & ECT ECU and VSV for EGR, VSV for EGR and EFI main relay 8)Check EGR gas temp sensor Here's the info on the Calif Car: 51 ................. NA (4) ..................... Switch Condition 52 ................. On (1) ................... No. 1 Knock Sensor 53 ................. On (1) ........................ Knock Control 55 ................. On (1) ................... No. 2 Knock Sensor 71 (6) ............. On (2) ............... EGR System Malfunction (California Only) (1) - If vehicle is in test mode, diagnosis would not be performed on this item. (2) - If vehicle is in test mode, CHECK engine light would be on. (3) - Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT). (4) - If vehicle is in test mode, CHECK engine light would be off. (5) - High Altitude Compensator (HAC) sensor. (6) - California vehicles only. email or PM me for the details or more info (if available)
  15. sorry the file is too big to upload but pm me and i can email it to you. actually the issue may be caused by jumping teeth.
  16. Surely the light is the low coolant, but look and see if the Power steering pump is leaking on the alt. when the alt goes the warning lights slowly come on one by one because the battery has to keep all the systems going and they fail slowly. just something to check so you are not stranded with a dead car!
  17. Here are some pages form the repair manual for "check engine" light problems: Here's some extra info: MOMENTARY INTERRUPTION During diagnosis, if Codes 13, 22, 24, 41 or 47 are stored in ECU memory and no trouble can be found with these circuits, it will be necessary to perform a momentary interruption test. 1) Clear codes from ECU memory. See CLEARING CODES in this article. With ignition off, connect a jumper wire between terminals E1 and TE1 of TDCL connector. 2) Start engine. Ensure CHECK engine light goes out. Pull lightly on wires and apply vibration to connectors and relays associated with diagnostic codes. 3) During this test if CHECK engine light illuminates, it indicates which connector or where in the wire harness there is a fault. Repair as necessary. 4) Clear diagnostic codes. Start engine. If CHECK engine light does not go out, check thoroughly for faulty connections. Perform MOMENTARY INTERRUPTION LS400 test again. If CHECK engine light still will not go out, see LS400 CONTROL UNIT in I - SYSTEM/COMP TESTS article. sorry cant upload the info for code 13 but i will find a way to get it on here
  18. Very Good Advice, try this first (WD-40 or whatever) However, If you need to replace the trunk latch it is very easy and should cost about $40 (what i paid). basically just a few (2?) bolts and a long metal bar that is routed to where the key hole area is.
  19. Hello, Bonjour, Salut! here is a thread about your friend's problem http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40025 The thread is very old and long but has some good stuff!
  20. Here is the instructions from my 90 LS repair manual. "BALL JOINT CHECKING 1) Raise vehicle and place 8 inch (203 mm) wooden block under one front tire. Lower vehicle until there is approximately 1/2 load on one coil spring. Place jack stands under vehicle. Ensure wheels are in straight forward position. 2) Move lower arm up and down. Check vertical ball joint play movement. See BALL JOINT MOVEMENT SPECIFICATIONS table. If movement exceeds specification, replace ball joint. See BALL JOINT R & I. 21. a few years ago in the winter my car took two good cranks to start, but after changing the plugs wires and rotors it always started first crank and sounded like a beast. might be about that time
  22. the wheels can be used from any lexus except the new LS460 which has a different bolt length. i would avoid ES rims as it is FWD. there are places that will chrome dip OEM rims (even the old sawblade) for that super fresh "L" on your rims! I like bridgestones and pirelli run flat tires.
  23. try replacing the gasket on the gas cap. the cap should be good. mine does the air pressure thing too if i let the gas get too low. when the tank is fuller there is less pressure.
  24. did you replace all the vacuum lines? i have a lexus check list for problems that do not produce a "check engine" light. hope it helps! H_tests_without_codes.pdf
  25. i really need the tranny pan!!! will send $$$ ASAP.
