  1. Yeah maybe, i just like the Avant A4 especially if it was the quattro, although i know nothing of their reliability. Really only 2 months, cool i had it in my head i was looking at around 4 months, with slippery roads all over the place. I plan on going skiing, alot, and need to make sure my vehicle is sure footed.
  2. Thanks Guys, i know after its rained here i can easily get the rear to spin up if i'm not careful. Damn and i was really looking for a good excuse to get an A4 Avant quattro, used obviously. Especially now i'm going to be looking after my sisters 10 year old Black Lab (quarantine UK issue) for 6 months. I'm not sure how he'll like sitting on the back seats :) A black lab without a truck or wagon just doesn't seem right somehow
  3. Hi Guys So i'm hopefully moving to Calgary by the end of the year, and have a '96 LS400 with no traction control, should i bother taking it with me :) I was looking at the costs of importing it anyway, as it was built in Japan there is an extra cost i believe, but i was thinking about the fact it has no traction control and so would it even be suitable to import. Anyone tried driving in harsh winters in one of these monsters without traction control?
  4. Thanks, yeah that was the reason i got it checked. I came here looking for info and read about it dripping on alternator, hence i got it checked a.s.a.p. luckily the leak is away from the alternator, at one of the joints. The local independent reckons it would take at least 2 hrs to replace, has anyone tried it? is it not just a tube with 2 nuts on each end? Sure i'd have to refill/bleed the system but i can't see how it can take 2 hrs
  5. Hi Guys My '96 LS400 has sprung a leak from the High Pressure power steering hose, took it to my local independent and they use genuine toyota parts at around $400 for this tube (Part No. 44410) plus fitting. I've seen after market equivalents (even Amazon have one listed http://www.amazon.com/Lexus-LS400-Power-St...522&sr=8-1) in the $100 region. Whilst i'm not a mechanic i am fairly competent (used to have a Range Rover with air suspension :0) from what i can see, i just need a Flare Nut wrench and some time, would this be accurate? Is there anything specially difficult about replacing the hose myself? Cheers Ants
  6. Thanks Guys, so far she's working out great. Bought some replacement Blaupunkt components for the front, and its way past due for a service. Been getting quotes around $190 for the 105k minor service, but a local independent that has great reviews and only uses genuine parts has quoted me $260 for a full service incl. transmission, diff, and coolant changes. Oh and he reckons on an extra $35 if i want the cabin filter doing too, i guess he must get a discount because i think he gets his parts form Kendall Toyota/Lexus :) Since i mentioned the Tacho. and gave it a bash its been working ever since :)
  7. Hey Guys I need to replace the front speakers in my '96 LS400. They are the 5 1/4inch ones from the standard "Premium Sound System" Now i'm normally a 'separates' guy so i'm leaning towards Component but i'm not sure how easy it is to get to the tweeter? If i wussed out and went with 2-Way i assume i'd have to disconnect the existing tweeter is this right? Crutchfield currently has Kicker KS5.2 Components for $60 Blaupunkt GTc542 Components for $80 OR 2-Way Sony GT1325A $60 Boston Acc S55 $100 Any help would be greatly appreciated
  8. Hi guys I'm the new owner of the classic 1 careful lady owner full Lexus service history, 108K and for only $4750, only downside, its green with gold badges :o Not my choice of colour but for that price i ain't complaining, seller was a friend of the wife, wanted it to go to a new home as she's leaving the country for a while. I'm a Brit living & working in South Florida, had a '94 GS a few years ago and was a member of LOC forum UK, so i know you guys are the best. It has a couple of minor issues: 1. Missed its 105k service (has transmission fluids replaced i believe) anyone know how much this one is? Will a Toyota dealer do it? they never would in the UK 2. Tacho sticks occasionally but a bash on the top of the console usually fixes it (i'm not going to take the binnacle out) 3. Front speakers are V.Crackly, i'm guessing dried and cracked from the heat here. I'm going to replace them myself, from what i've read on here and on Crutchfield they are 5 1/4 inch. I've only had it a couple of days and haven't noticed a component tweeter but i'm guessing there is one near the mirror (it just says "premium sound" not Naka wotsit) If i replace them, is it best to get a component set and replace tweeter also?, if i got 2-way would i need to disconnect the tweeter and just use the built in one? Cheers Porschefan
