  1. I'l know for sure in October when I receive mine, but if a Lexus dealer tells you that the settings are retained, I got to believe they have been there done that many many times and it's not going to be a problem :) I don't have my manual handy, can anyone out there give me the quick and dirty on how you actually install the DVD in the car (I have an RX-300). Thanks. ← you remove the rear roight cargo area panel where the jack is stored. the dvd player is attached there. you slide open the door and push eject button and remove pold then you slide in the new one. i would like to buy your old one if want to sell it.
  2. IT USUALLY THE TRAY MOTOR NOT ANY BROKEN PIECES UNLESS YOU JAMMED A MAGAZINE AND REWMOVED IT BY FORSCE.
  3. I went to ultimate electronics today and they told me that the only reciever that's compatable with my stock changer is a pioneer deck? I wanted an Alpine but a pioneer would do also. They gave me a qoute of the system I wanted plus installation and it was around $1200. That's a little too much for me since I know the basic install already. So do you think you could convert my stock changer with this reciever: Pioneer DEH-P4600mp? ← yes the conversion of your gs changer would plug into the ip bus port in the bottom right hand corner of ther deh-p4600mp. it is a 10 pin blue square connector. the ip bus wire from the convetrerted gs changer would plug into the back of the pioneer and be controlled by your pioneer aftermarket heeadunit and directly controlled not fm modulated.
  4. if you replaced your lx450 headunit with a pioneer brand aftermarket headunit the 6 disc in the center consle can be converted to be recognized by the pbus pioneer aftermarket headunit.
  5. Do you have instructions for the Trunk mounted changer 1996 es? ← there are 2 large 14mm bolts 5that bolts it to the floor front of the flip down door and back for the large bracket. there is a little bracket arm are off the back right rear corner hooks into the quarterpanel brace behind the left side carpetring with a 10 mm nut , 2 connectors to remove and the wire attachment to the top bracket lid.
  6. What pin? Tape goes in and shuffles around for about 5 sec and then shoots back out and antenna goes up. Why does it shoot the tape out? ← the tape has 3 rubber belts that run the tape mechanism. they only l;ast 10 years and need replaced. i have the tape service manual and the belts new if you want to fix yourself. the dor mechaniosm is anothert matter. i have all the parts to fix the door and the service manual if you want to fix it yourself.
  7. the nakamichi was a 12 inch woofer and the pioneer a 10 inch woofer in a 12 inch frame so yes it will work. howevfer it needs to be 80 watt speaker if you are pushing with the factrory amp.
  8. Old post but i'll still try. I need to buy the 5 channel Nakamichi amp as well. is it still for sale ? ← YES ITS STILL FOR SALE. ENAIL ME AT pioneersuby@woh.rr.com for pictures and details. ← i was saving tha amp for you . do you still nreed it.
  9. I HAVE THE 2001 RX300 NAVIGATION SYSTEM READY TO INSTALL ION YOUR 2001 NON NAVC RX300.. EMAIL ME AT PIONEERSUBY@WOH.RR.COM FOR DETAILS.
  10. email pioneersuby@woh.rr.com for pictures of 92 es300 with the newer es300 nav unit installed. it has plug in and play wiring harness for 1992 es300 and denso made dvd gps computer just like the 2001 up lexus models. the unit comes with 1992 es300 stereo installation bezel and brackets ready to install in the dash. the price is 1500.00 . since it ia 2 piece unit the tv tuner and dvd player can be added to play on the navigation screen......................................................................................another nice upgrade for a 1992 es300 is a state of the art 2003 toyota woodfaced 6 disc indash cd changer , cassette rds radio unit plug in and play for 500.00. it fits perfectly in the es 300 stereo space. also email pioneersuby@woh.rr.com for pictures of this unit.
  11. no there are no double din receiver kits that fit in 1990 lexus ls400. if you are looking for cd capability i have a complete install kit that changes over headunit to ls400 radio cassette with a cd button and includes the cd changer cable and lexus factrory cd changer. this is an easy plug in and play installation with no wire splicing. there are really no lexus wire adapters that are plug in and play for your car on the aftermarket. the toyota adapters look similar but have a different pin out arrangement. with the factory wire diagram it could ber figured out but dont follow the pin out code for the lower toyota models as they will not work.
  12. Old post but i'll still try. I need to buy the 5 channel Nakamichi amp as well. is it still for sale ? ← YES ITS STILL FOR SALE. ENAIL ME AT pioneersuby@woh.rr.com for pictures and details.
  13. sorry i was out on a business trip so couldnt complete the transaction. i am ready now to do it. i will email you the information on payment method.
  14. you bought the toyota aux adapter not the lexus aux adapter. the 12 pin rectangular plugs are the same but totally different wire configuration. more bad news , dont bother buying the lexus aux adapter it doesnt work either. . lexus has 2 serial communication lines that talk to the head unit and blitzsafe or for that matter no one has cracked the code.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the only aux input success for lexus is with the navigation equipped cars. for some reason the cd changer port on navigation radios will supprt mp3 , and xm radio inputs ands will scroll through them and the cd changer and can be controlled by the steering wheel controls. the disc and track buttons change the xm stations . but so far only on navigation systems. possibly the headunit commincation blocks had to be lifted for the talking navigation to work is my guess.
  15. I also just bought a 98 GS 300 w/ factory NAV, but my NAV was aparently updated in 2001. This would make me think it is not a hard drive system, or at least an easily updateable one. The previous owner stated that the dealer used a CD to update, but that may have been an assumption. ← THE UPDATE IS DONE AT DENSO CORP IN CALIFORNIA. THE DISC DRIVE HAS TO BE TURNED IN TO THE DEALER OR 600.00 CORE CHARGE. THE ACTUAL UPDATE LIST PRICE IS 400.00 BUT AN INTERNET LEXUS DEALER WILL DO IT FOR 260.00 EXCHANGE FOR YOUR OLD DISC DRIVE. THE SALESMAN IS IN DALLAS AT SEWELL LEXUS. LOOK UP ON INTERNET OR CALL DARYL AT 214 353 2826 HIS DIRECT LINE FOR INTERNET SALES.
  16. ERROR 23 MEANS THE CD ISNT GETTING READ PROPERLY. THE EASIEST CURE WOULD BE THAT THE CD WAS INSERTED UPSIDE DOWN. THE CORRECT WAY IS SHINEY SIDE UP LABEL SIDE DOWN. IT IS EASY TO FORGET ANSD INSERT THE CDS LABEL SIDE UP LIKE ALL PRESENT DAY CD PLAYERS DO IT................................................... IF THERE WERE 2 CDS IN 1 SLOT THAT COULS CAUSE IT OR IF THE LASER CHARGE WAS GONE OUT OF THE CD CHANGER AFTER 10 YEARS USE THAT COULD DO IT........................................................ I CAN REFURB THE 95 TO 97 LS400 CD CHANGER MOST OF THE TIOME FOR 125.00 IF THE LASER IS GONE. THEY SELL FOR 250.00 USED. NO OTHER LEXUS GLOVEBOX CHANGER CAN BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE 95 TO 97 LS400 CD CHANGER 86270-50090. IT HAS PBUS AND ALL OTHER LEXUS GLOVEBOX CHANGERS ARE MBUS . THE "BUS" IS THE LANGUAGE IT USES TO TALK TO THE HEADUNIT.
  17. its impossible to make a complicated subject simple , i am not the one making it confusing . it is lexus who is making it confusing. i have been working on a simple plug in and play rx300 navigation conversion since 2001 when they nav system came out for rx300.what follows here is not a simple explanation but all the things i have gone through to retrofit a navigation system. if everything was straight forward then i wouldnt have to buy a japaneses nav system to see how a tv tuner could be added to an rx300 system.. the usa lexus rx wiring diagrams have no information that such a tuner could be added. as it is against the law still to have a tv screen visible to the driver wqhile driving even though all the aftermarket systems are violating that law. but oem manufacxturers still have to follow it, ............................................................. also the rx300 wiring haness for navigation is one system and the one you have now is another and they have no parts in common. your present screen is not a navigation screen it is only a multi display and cannot be converted to navigation use. also your present radio cannot be used on navigation system. only 3% of rx300 vehicles produced had a navigation system so most rx300 screens and rDIOS AND WIRING HARNESSES cant be used. even though everyone advertises their salvaged screens as navigations screens they are not navigation screens. there is even a mistake in the USA salvage yard refderence data where the give the non NAV screen part number aS THE NAVIGATION SCREEN PART NUMBER.86111-48030 WHEREAS THE NAV SCREEN PART NUMBER IS 86111-48070 AND HAS 4 CONNECTORS ON THE BACK AND THE NON NAV SCREEN HAS 1 CONNECTOR ON THE BACK. also the salvage yards if they have a nav system rx300 have no idea there is a dvd nav computer hidden near the jack in the reaR CARGO AREA ANd SEND THEM OFF TO BE CRUSHED without removing the denso made dvd navigation computer. so of 15 salvage yards who list that they have a rx300 navigation system for sale only 1 really had one and the computer already was crushed with the rest of the vehicle. all the others assumed they had a nav system vehicle because they had the multidisplay screen . one tipooff that a salvage yard is misinformed if they say they have a 1999 or 2000 rx300 navigation system for sale. they didnt come out untill 2001. so if a nav system rx300 is in an accident they are being sold as rebuilds and not parted out still in 2004. soon i hope they will be avaialble in salvage yards . .........................so as you can see it is not some simple install . even the aftermarket system wouldnt be a simple install and would look terrible in rx300 dash.so i am continuing on making a rx300 navigation system wiring harness with connectors to add a dvd player. and soon the used equipment will be avaialble that really is the navigation system not the multiscreen display.
  18. the rx dash woudnt lend itself to installing the toyota oem nav unit. the heater controls and radio controls are all intertwined on the rx and would take major dash reworking to make it fit and look decent. the 1 piece units also dont lend themselves to adding a dvd player. the japan market harrier/ rx300 already has a seperate tv tuner with a tv button on the dash panel button selection so a tv tuner and added dvd player/ changer can be plugged into it quite easily with the correct wiring harness . i just got a entire japanese rx300 nav unit system from japan so i can produce a wiring harness for the use on usa setup that has the tv tuner input . i already have on a 2001 rx300 navigation wiring harness ready to go but i want to further refine it so adding a tv tuner or a dvd 6 disc changer or xm radio will be a plug in and play instalation. you wont have to remove your present dash wiring harness. the new harness will just be plugged into your present harness by y connctors. i could also do 1999 and 2000 rx300 by this method.
  19. yes after 8 years the cd changer vcould have the loading motor out. there is no aftermarket changers that will work with the lx450 pioneer made changer. the changer communicates with the head unit and will not communicate with aftermarket changers. i can possibly fix it . email me for details at pioneersuby@woh.rr.com
  20. i have the 5 channell 93 nakamichi amp in perfect working condition. the price for a working used one is cheaper than repairing. i will email the info.
  21. 4 ohms but i wouldnt get a speaker rated more than 60 or 80 watss max or the factory amp wont put ot the sound you would expect. the 4 oinch nakamichi aftermarket speakers would be best because they are not only 4 ohms but rated for 40 watts like the original pineer sperkers. so you are not only mathing inches and ohms but watts. a 200 watt pioneer speaker will not work well on an amp puttoing out 40 watts per channell. you would need a high watt aftermarket amp to get better loudness if that is what you are looking for.
  22. I HAVE BAD NEWS FOR YOU. THE TOYOTA WIRING IS ALL TOGETHER DIFFERENT THAN THE LEXUS WIRING HARNESS . THE CONNECTORS MAY LOOK SIMILAR BUT THE PINOUTS ARE ALL DIFEREENT. WHOEVER TOLD YOU THAT THE TOYOTA NAV WOULD PLUG INTO THE 97 ES300 SYSTEM WERE QUITE MISTAKEN. ALSO THE ES300 CD CHANGER WONT TALK TO THE TOYOTA NAV HEADUNIT........................................................................ THE ES300 HAS 2 SERIAL COMUNICation lines and the toyta only 1 so you wont be able to match up the cd changer wiring even if you try to splice all the common wires.................................................................... also the toyota dash suround kits wont work for es300 which has the slope sided radio shape and the toyota is rectangular..................................................................................................... for the past several years i have been installing factory lexus nav units in lexus cars that came without them and that is a challenge even using the same exact year model nav that came in the lexus i am converting. lexus does not sell the navigation wiring harness. they were only available on the assembly line in japan if the car was ordered with navigation. so i make plug in and play custom lexus navigation wiring harnesses . . es300 didnt come with nav untill 2002 so making a wiring harness for a 97 would be quite a challenge.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,heres some advice when trying to plug in the toyota nav in a lexus. dont have the toyota nav hooked into the jbl anp when you plug it into the es300 wiring harness as you could damage the toyota nav. . i tried years ago using a jbl amp in a es300 on radio applications and it wasnt possible.even if i matcxhed up all the wiring there was terrible interfence when turning on the headlights. the antenna didnt work as toyota had no power antenna outputs. there has not been a jbl amp ever installed in a lexus so i know of no wiring harness that would work. whoever the toyota experts you are dealing dont know much about lexus cars wiring harnesses if they told you a toyota would be plug in and play on a lexus. they are out of their area of expertise when they get into lexus from toyota. ..........................................................................................sorry for the bad news but just trying to save you an expensive mistake. for future reference no toyota radio (15 and 20 pin ), amp (15 pin or 10 and 6 pin )or cd changer(12 pin) works on a lexus even though the plugs all may look the same. the cd changer functioning not as important since the toyota nav has a single cd in the headunit but i dont see how the amp would ever hook up correctly . also the 97 es300 amp is analog and the toyota headunit in 2004 is digital. even if somehow you could splice all the wires correctly the sound transmission wont work just like when you try to hook up lexus nakamichi audio unit to a analog pioneer es300 system. no sound is produced even though the headunit is displaying that the headunit is functioning. asd you can tell i have been trying toyota to lexus swaps for years and i havent found one that worked well yet. hopefully you will lead the way but just giving a freindly headsup on your project.
  23. the 98 gs only comes with the pioneer system. your radio had id number p1708 on the cassette flap door. nakamichi raidos start with letter "n" on the cassette flap door. the nav computer in the trunk and the nakamichi amp both bolt into same trunk location. the pioneer amp is behind the glovebox. so you could either have nav or nakamichi in 1998. in 2001 you could have the best mark levinson and nav as they canged levinson amp to under the passenger seat insteads of the trunk. . the nakamichi system in 1998 gs had a digital equalizer and digital amp made by nakamichi which gives better clarity of sound and a little more watts .the rest of the nakamichi system in 1998 , the headunit and changer and speakers were made by pioneer. it is the same onthe 2001 gs mark levinson systems. pioneer makes most of the components except for the amp even on mark levenson in 2001. so there is a marked improvement in nakamichi and mark levinson due to digital sound instead of analog. the first generation nakamichi systems from 1990 to 96 were all made by nakamichi including headunit and speakers and were the best systems ever put in factory production cars. the later nakamichi systems were good but the first generation were the best of the nakamichi. 1998 owners with 2 gs cars side by side report a more fuller sound in the 98 nakamichi system so the impprovement is noticeable and the nak radio has actual buttons to adjust treble and base to personal taste.
  24. OF COUSE I HAVE YOUR PIONEER 2 OHM SUBWOOFER MY NAME IS PIONEERSUBY. EMAIL ME AT PIONEERSUBY @WOH.RR.COM FOR PICTURES AND DETAILS.
  25. LEXUS RADIOS TALK TO THE CD CHANGER AND WILL ONLY TALK TO FACTORY ONES. SO FACTORY CHANGERS ONLY RECOURSE FOR THE BEST SOUND. USED CHANGERS ARE AVAILABLE BUT THEY ARE GETTING 7 YEARS OLD NOW SO BETTER IF YOU CAN FIND A DEAL ON A NEW ONE.
