  1. the 2001 to 2005 is300 and lexus lx470 98 to 2000 cd changers were both made by fujitsu who has, i hope ,given up making any kind of multiple cd dvd changers. they were both disasters at getting burnt cds stuck in the mechanism. . . pioneer is the remaining maker of all the mark levinson dvd cd players for lexus the reason they are remaining is that most of their changers work just fine. pioneer made dvd units have had some problems playing some brands of burnt dvd discs but certainly not enough problems to have a "dont play" warning. the jamming of pioneer units is mainly from stickking 2 cds in the same slot not from different thickbness dvd blanks. also there are mark levinson system cd players in non nav cars that just play cds through a mark levinson amp but have no ability to play dvds. . the only mark levinson dvd movie players come in navigation system equiped lexus. also unless adjustments are made the movies wont play while vehicle moving but the dvd sound should still come through like on a dvd music video .
  2. i knew you didnt live in miami so you really didnt need a working gps computer. yes you are right you need the cpu plugged in even a broken one to complete the avclan connection so the screen will work. the 2 camera idea is good. what aftermarket brand of video box did you use? pac or vaistech or gnet. ...........................................................................as far as tom tom working as well as lexus it doeasnt. when you lose tom tom gps signal which is often when going in a tunnel , or tall buildings or mountains the tom tom takes 2 minutes to reconnect to satelite. that wouldnt work well coming out of the brooklyn tunnel not knowing where your at for 2 minutes. also while a newer lexus has lost the gps signal and using the speed sensor for nav guidance it also knows which way you are turning as it has a steering input sensor also. no portable gps has those features. so comparison to tom tom is not even considered. also if a tom tom ends up working for 8 years it will be an aftermarket portable gps record but for lexus it is considered short lived. most nakamichi lexus stereo products still working after 19 years. also map updates for tom tom are still half the price of the entire unit 165.00 so no bargain on map updates for portable gps............................................................................. .............................. also watch out for portables like tom tom losing dash attachment ansd falling off dash and breaking your navigation screen which is very common for gx470 lexus nav screens. i have already repaired 3 gx470 screens where portable gps falls off dash and breaks screen resulting in no temperature and ac control. also when your radio breaks you can glue a potable radio next to the tom tom . yes tom tom less expensive than a lexus navigation system but you get what you pay for which is also the difference between a toyota carolla and a lexus both products of the same company. the carolla deserves a tom tom the lexus deserves a factory nav. they are putting tom toms in low end toyota in japan now but they are built in the dash and work audio but are removable to use while hiking.
  3. you have to reset the computer back to default region before the gen 4 hybrid map 5.1 /7.1 will work.
  4. I also suffered same problem while I insert the Taiwan version DVD map disk to my US EMV. It seems like the Navi ECU or EMV issue, however the solution is not availa Where did your EMV come from ?? Map DVD not match the EMV ?? My CPU is a DENSO one, from US, and I tried inserting Europe map and USA map. Same result. I will insert pictures later. as to taiwan the pictured screen i am guessing is a 5th generation gps screen from is250 . lexus gps computers are regionalized just like movie dvds around the world into 5 or so regions. since taiwan didnt have the navigation option in 2006 is250 there is no lexus map for taiwan . a seller in taiwan advertises that he can change both usa and japanese versions to work in taiwan. he does a complete retrofit ($8500.00 usa dollars). at that price i can see why you bought a usa version is250 nav system . however the usa version you bought has been compromised as it isnt even loading the usa version map in a usa computer. that means usually one thing . that the 5.1 version map that came in 2006 still could bring up the overide screen and someone pushed the loading button which moves the unit to another regiionnal version and would have to be reset by denso to work again. so you have 2 problems . how to make unit work in taiwan and how to reset the computer back to default region the usa. so even though i am an expert on diagnosis of lexus computer problems i do not have answers to repair of a 5th genration computer. denso gaurds its service manuals and have no service bullitins to lexus techs and has no repair facilities except thier own. there are denso programs that set the computer back to default original region but i dont have one for 5th genration. as to fernado rx300 he also has the same 2 problems in his 2nd genration computer although in his case the lasers are probably going bad in that 8 year old computer first year of dvd map gps computer so instead of dvd not read because loading button pushed accideantally its not reading because laser is weak. better to buy a 3rd genration computer. also used computers with no warranty never work. better to buy one with a warranty.
  5. dragospenca, Are you saying it is cracked or is the touch screen failed when you try to use the nav? It is cracked. The plastic face that covers the screen is cracked. I can see the screen pictures but I can not touch it because the screen doesn’t respond. I can not change the radio station, I can not adopt any other comand from the navigation. There is a screen replacement part. It has 4 connectors that simply unplug. The bluetooth module is to the right of the screen. I have 1 screen if you are interested. PM or Email me or leave your email for the details. The screen on my newly purchased LX 470 looks as if it were cleaned with something that distorted it (it's very worn looking). It works fine but it is very hard to see in bright sunlight. Does this require a screen replacement and any advice on where to find the screens? Hey i'm new but my screen has registered its first problem in years and it kind off is dim now to the extent i cant see it in sunlight but the controls are workin g fine anyone has solution to these?plz post what year lx470 do you have? i have 2003 t0 2007 replacemnt lcd screens.

  7. even a factory 7.1 probably wont work. the lasers are all getting weak on the gen 2 computers that are in your 2002 sc430. so when you went to a double the data 7.1 over original version 1 disc your laser couldnt handle it. the problem is once you put in the 7.1 you cant go back to the solid blue orignal disc you had in there. eventually in the next few months the unit problaly wouldnt have even read the original disc so its not like the disc caused the problem just hurrying it along. no one has been able to fix the gen 2 computer problem except original manuufacturer denso which costs 1500.00 for an out of warranty repair. i know which part needs replaced but no one in usa sells it. best solution is buying a gen 3 computer and you wont have the problem with getting another gen 2 computer. but any computer you find be sure to get a warranty from the seller that it will work with your 7.1 disc. i have a 3rd genration computer i would be willing to try your 7.1 copy in. i am sure it would work in that the 3rd gen computer which has a stonger laser and works twice as fast as the second gen. it also has many advanced features over the 2nd gen like split screen . email me at pioneersuby@woh.rr.com for more info.
  8. the es330 retrofit would be best in my opinion. the system is 1 piece. no computer to go to trunk like the 2002 factory nav. also the computers are quite expensive in the 800.00 range just for the computer alone,so es330 factory nav is best. the bezel matching the 2002 es300 will work just fine. the es330 bezel is more silver than gray. i have done several of these es330 to es300 installs and live west of columbus ohio .it would take about 4 to 5 hours to install and would include the rear view camera. the es330 unit also is ipod readyand xm radio ready. es300 nav is not. after market requires a lot of work just to get the aftermarket radio to bypass the factory amp and it would take an expensive aftermarket unit to sound as good as the factory system.
  9. mark levinson is a high end home stereo company. it sold its name to lexus when nakamchi went out of bvusiness as lexus high end stereo system. it produces none of the parts which are made by harmon carden the makers of toyotas jbl systems. mark levinson lexus systems use low watt high effeciency speakers of unusual ohm ratings. the speakers are matched to the car interior mark levinson systems sound quite well. of course they are light on bass by standards of aftermarket units which are so powerful that special equipment has to be installed or the battery will go dead. the mark levinson systems like the nakamichi systems they replaced have good clarity instead of body vibatiing bass. none of the components can be easily replaced with aftermarket units. the pioneer made standard lexus stereo systems are also produce good stereo sound by oem standards. the speakers lately have unusual ohm specifications not just 4 ohms like aftermarket. . the is350 pioneer made system speakers also are all 8 ohms just like the mark levinson systems so replacing with aftermarket speakers not recommended.
  10. Did you try ripping the store bought CDs to you computer and then burn them ( in CD format) to a disc? My store bought CDs do not display the text but I rip them to the mac and burn them to a CD using itunes and it displays the text. You can then keep the original in a safe place the problem is in the 2001 designed gx470 radio. other than update to recognize xm radio the radio is not supportive of the cd text. so the changer wasnt made to support it since the radio doesnt. also the radio doesnt support mark levinson 7.1 surround sound . so even though it is called mark levinson and has mark levinson amp and speakers the radio has no didgital plug on the back of it like all the lexus surround sound radios do. so it cant play a movie in digital surround sound only in analog . i make lexus retrofit navigation kits for all lexus models so i know what i am taliking about. i have to study all the wiring digrams to make all the changes from non nav non ml to nav with surround sound ml. and i cant make the gx470 ml surround sound because there is no blue digital surround sound port on the back of the gx470 radio. so the 6 disc cd dvd players movies that can play on the front nav screen are in 11 speaker steero but not in surround sound. not that they promoised surround sound in the2007 gx470 sales literature just like i am sure they didnt promise cd text anywhere in the literature. the radio was not made to put out cd text to the screen when designed in 2001. the 2007 gs , es, ls, rx, is all had recent complete redesigns and support ml surround sound. the mark levinson sc , lx470 and gx470 had not been redesigned yet in 2007 to play ml surround sound. i am sure cd text will be included when they are redigned. to play 7.1 ml surround sound.
  11. unless his garmin is hooked to speed sensor like the lexus he will lose where he is at everytime he loses satelite connectiion due to tunnels, tall buildings mountains etc. when lexus loses touch with satelite the gps knows cars speed so can stay on course. after a tunnel it takes garmin several minutes to reconnect which wouldnt be good in a big city. so you get what you pay for. also the lexus nav will be working well into the future . most 1998 lexus navs still woking well after 10 years. garmins have trouble making to the warranty. google" trouble with garmin" and see the litany of compalints. you get what you pay for also applies to navigation systems. an analogy is mark levinson 7.1 surround sound versus a hand held transister radio glued to the lexus dash.
  12. if you mean how to get to the overide screen you get to it by pushing menu then volume. you touch up and down twice on left side of screen. a screen with 2 rows of buttons comes on. hold the overide button for 5 seconds until color change. now the buttons to control nav are no longer grayed out and will work. 2 cautions. 1 -should not use this while driving better for passenger to use. warning 2 while on the oveeride screen do not push the loading button which is seciond down in right hand row. this will make you computer unusable and you will have to have the computer reprogramed.
  13. wood trim each side pops off by spring clips. what hd radio do you have? were youb assured it would work on lexus system by the seller. lexus systems dont recognize and play just any aftermarket radio without expensive adapters and control boxes to talk to the amp and headunit. lexus dealers will only install parts they sell due to warranty considerations. some dealers even tell customers that installing non lexus equipment will void warranty to scare them into buying their units.
  14. yes i have a generation 3 recovery cd. i will pm you with info.
  15. 1 yes you are genration 2 or 3. same dvd for both so not important. 2gen 2/3 map. 3yes gen 3 version 6.1 86271-33035 will work. the version 7.1 just came out gen 2/3 number is 86271-33036 just came out. 4 no, gen 4 or current gen 5 computer maps wont work.
  16. Thank you! the only version of 7.1 available at this time is current geneation 5 systems which are 2006 is350 and most 2007 2008. the update for gen 2/3 and generation 4 will not be out until the first of the year. they have to bring out the 5th generation soooner so they can put them in the 2008 new lexus. they get all these made first then they start producing 2008 7.1 upates for no longer in production gen 2 3 and 4 computers.they are all 7.1 but mostly incompatible with each other . so watch which 7.1 you are buying. if your lexus is 2006 or older the current 7.1 disc wont work. it is marked u32 at 2 oclock on the disc face. the 4th generation update will say u22 . the gen 2/3 will have part number 86841-33036.
  17. the controllers go for 125.00 used working condition This is the rear audio controller located in the headliner you speak of? I will need one that works with the Levinson audio sysytem. Do you have a contact #? there are 2 different gx470 rear systems and 2 diferent controllers. one has dvd screen flip down called rear entertainment system. . the other is a rear audio controller no video invloved. call me at 937 322 1760 to figure out which one you have. i dont understand why the dealer didnt give you the part nunmber and price of the part you needed but i will help you figure it out. very hard to do by club posts. i deal in this every day and cant figure out what you need without asking more questions. gx470 rear audio controller is actually in the back of the console along with ac contols for rear air. a lot of dealers have no idea of the different options in a gx470.
  18. gs300 has connectors like no other lexus so certainly wont fit the blue 10 pin square pioneer ip connector. no other lexus mp3 stereo connectors will fit. only way would be to splice and connect . and then the radio will not recognize the inPut due to avc lan connmmunicaTION SYSTEM.
  19. lots of rewiring. 2001 is 2nd generation computer and 2005 is 4th generatiion. the main added feature would be the bluetoooth and the xm or serius radio capablity. the rear view camera on the 4th generation comes through the self parking ecu as well as the gps computer wiring so would be near impossible to rewire. the radio has similar wiring but the 4th generation screen has all different plugs 28 and 26 pin compared to 2nd generation screen which has 8 pin 16 pin 12 pin connectors and all different avc lan communication system and gateway computer. no it would not be an easy retrofit but possible. only one successful non nav to nav retrofit. may be easier to do 2001 ls430 nav to 2005 ls430 nav since most of the correct wires the and adapter connectors could be custom made to plug 2001 screenn connctors to 2005 screen connectors. in comparison the 2005 gs430 nav retrofit to any older non nav 1998 to 2004 gs 400/300/430 (10 successful to date)retrofits is a breeze compared to the ls430 retrofit. gs430 factory rear view camera works through blue 6 pin video connector on the back of the gs430 nav screen.
  20. walk around the dealers used car lot. there are no aftermarket systems in lexus dealers used cars. aftermarket systems lower the trade in value of the vehicle not improve it. if you accepted their low trade in offer the dealer would wholesale it. the wholesale buyer would immediately remove the after market system and replace with the proper factory system then reauction it for a profit. the aftermarket stereo dealers of course would never make this information available to thier buyers. think about it. would the next lexus buyer of your vehicle get service on your aftermarket system if it was having a problem cetainly not the lexus dealer.
  21. if you have a rear seat entertainment screen a singlre dvd player should be in the back of the center console. if its missing it could be stopping the changer from showing. up . also if the changer is not working or if the avc lan wiring is not working screen will say the not connected. the 6 disc changer is mounted underneath the glovebox . the 2004 screens had a defect in the tx tm communication wires thAT ALSO COULD CAUSE THE PROBLEM.. a dealer could do a check for you to see what the problem lies. i have a 6 disc gx changer with the 32 pin plug if you would rather plug it iin and see if it cures the problem.
  22. yes it is ntsc compatible output of usa but the screen is still tapped in the trunk at the 10 pin video connector of external dvd map reader in the 2 pice lexus navigation systems(except es330 1 piece) so that eliminates its use in your 4th genration 2005 1 piece toyota type es330 headunit........................................................................ ... the 2007 es350 now is a 5th generation 2 piece and no longer uses a toyota navigation 1 peice unit like yours. . the 2007 es350 connection between screen and nav map reader unit is now digital so all these aftermarket 10 pin line tapping units from soundlinq ,vaitech ,navtool lextasy etc will no longer work. all these adapters for 2nd thru 4th genration dont work that well anyway.......................................................................... ........ why they dont just plug into the 6 pin blue video port on the back of every lexus nav screen is beyond my comprehension. why these companies want to put interferece on the nav video line doesnt make sense when every screen has a video input port. even the 2007 screens still have a 6 pin blue video input port even though the map reader to screen connection is now a digital 2 pin connector which was invented by sony. i think the screens were all getting burnt by those aftermaket gnet etc adapters as they are hooked to power which puts too much curerent to screen. so lexus had to make impossible to tap the rgb 10 pin connector anymore but left the 6 pin vidio input port. heres a lexus 6 disc changer plugged into a gs430 2 piece navigation system. it doesnt need any aftermarket adapters and it plugs into the 6 pin video port for movie picture to screen and to the 12 pin cd changer for factory sound not fm modulated like aftermarket units. plus it has touchscreen integrated controls not some tiny losable battery drained remote. click on picture to enlarge it. PIONEERSUBY, Bringing this back up again.. (its been awhile!). So are you saying if I get a external DVD player that can connect into the 6 pin video port I should have... and then also connect in the 12 pin port for sound.. then I should be ok. OR is the 6 pin and 12 pin only on 2 piece units and Im screwed as I have a 1 piece unit? Thanks sir.. hopefully your still around and catch this new post the blue 6 pin and small 12 pin ports are there on the es330 1 piece but lexus audio equipment engineers constantly change the correct wiring of the 6 pin plug just to keep you wondering why the harness that works on a lexus wont work on another model. the 12 pin port always has the same wiring for sound input but some models dont have power going to the changer out from the 12 pin port. the engineers are constantly changing how everything connects. for one example of constant change the 2005 2006 and 2007 mark levinson amps all have different connector ports. so nothing caN be stated as an absolute never changing fACT WHEN IT COMES TO HOOKING UP ANY LEXUS MADE AUDIO AND VIDEO UNITS.
