  1. Anyone else notice that the red convertible Mustang he was driving was the V6 model and not the GT model like he thought?? That's laughable! You'd think that somewhere along the way someone would have caught that glaring mistake. I love the match-ups he concocts to get the results that he's looking for. Ohh gee, I'm completely shocked that a $90k M5 can blow a $40k SRT8 300 away. Really?!?! Hmm, imagine that! He completely misses the boat on what 99% of these vehicles are designed for. An Escalade has no more business being off road than a Camry does. Other than a couple clever similes every now and again, I don't find him to be quite as amazing as what a lot of people think. He's just another predictable auto journalist who has a bone to pick with America for some unknown reason. I did have to agree with him on the Prius (or as he says Pry-us) though!
  2. I didn't come across any info on the old LSs crash tests, but the Regal did ok: http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=68 The LS got a passenger's side airbag in 1993.Which one rides better? That's completely subjective. I've never driven a Regal, but I'd bet that it's going to be more softly sprung and even more isolated than a LS. The Regal will have a lesser quality interior, but that would be because the Buick sold for $30,000 less than a base LS when they were both new, so imagine that! The Buick will be cheaper to keep on the road with the 6cyl engine and cheaper parts. Which one is better for you? Only you can answer that question after driving both of them.
  3. You are right Robert, between Parallels and MS Office for Mac, compatibility is no longer an issue. When you get an Apple, buy it from Macmall.com-->no sales tax! I have XP on my Macbook (which is the base model 13", but I upgraded the memory to 4bg myself for $100...this baby screams!) that I hardly use (Office is what really counts), but watch how fast it boots up... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekKwn_cPu9cDenny, durability is my main complaint (other than an untimely hard disk failure) for my Dell....just very, very cheap construction (most annoying is the loose screen) which was totally unacceptable for the $3,000 I paid for it. It looks like the newer ones are a little better though. Not to mention, all of the PCs I've had just seem to become incapacitated after 2 years or so no matter how many times you reformat them. I also was a little put off by the higher price of the Macs (about $400 more for the Mac than a comparable HP), but I got over that after a playing with the HP I was considering--so slow and poorly built.
  4. I wouldn't get any of the above. Go with a Mac! B) I just bought a new Macbook after 3.5 years of terrible service from my Dell Inspiron 8600, and wow, it's nice to have a computer that actually works and has excellent fit/finish/material quality.
  5. A cracked EGR pipe is a fairly common problem. My local Lexus dealer offered to fix mine for $600 (parts and labor), but I ended up caping it off instead-- for free and in less than 30 minutes by removing the bottom half of my completely severed egr pipe, shorting it a bit (sawed off the accordion piece), and folding it so that you get something that looks like the piece on the left.... For the radio, I'm not sure you can buy just a knob, but there are plenty of stock headunits on ebay and in junkyards.
  6. It's the little square opening about an inch above the top of the gas pedal in this pic...
  7. A long time ago, I saw a GenI LS for sale on ebay with front seats from a 95-96 installed. I emailed the seller to ask how he did it, but he didn't know--said the car came like that. It didn't look like there were any kind of custom mounts or anything.
  8. I find seafoam through the intake to be a waste of time. I think the high praises on all of these forums comes more from a sort of placebo effect due to all of the smoke coming out rather than real change. I've never tried Amsoil Power Foam though. Most people seem to buy Bridgestone, Michelin, Yokohamas, Dunlops, Goodyear, or BFG. I have BFGs on my car, and I love them. Jim, when are you going to pull the trigger and go for the multifunction nav??? :DBlake
  9. The radiator doesn't have a cap; just one on the reservoir tank. ;)
  10. Your car looks excellent! I really like the blue-black color of your car too! B)
  11. You can get a non remote master for about $50: http://www.sewellpartsonline.com/parts_detail.asp?id=32364
  12. From your "my Lexus overview" page, click on "search owner's manual." Then, off to the right, you should see a link marked, "order a replacement owner's manual."
  13. It doesn't sound like there is a security code..... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...?showtopic=6502Yeah, the only way you're going to get in to the trunk is by unlocking it. The gas tank is behind the back seat, so you're not going to get in that way. ;)
  14. Did you register with the Owners section of Lexus.com? They will send you one for free.
  15. LOL This certainly isn't a girl thing; I'm sure we've all locked the keys in at least once. Several months ago I locked the keys in my LeSabre while they were still in the ignition....*BLEEP* (wouldn't happen on the Lexus since it pops the lock back if you try to lock the car while the key is in the ignition, not on a Buick though.)! LOL It's a good thing for AAA! I'd let it sit for 30 minutes or an hour with the battery unplugged. Disconnecting the battery should at least let you unlock the car and open the trunk with your valet key. And, hopefully, it will reset the alarm. I'm not sure about whether or not you'll need the security code; the only reading I've done on the radio security code is for the first gen cars. I seem to remember reading that the security code might be the last 3 numbers of your VIN, but I'm not sure about that. Here's to a nice, dry, sunny day in Cincinnati!!
  16. I'm fairly certain it's a 10mm for my '95, and you certainly don't have to use the tool in your trunk to loosen the nut on the battery connection. (Obviously, you didn't get to the trunk, I misread what you wrote. Sorry about that!)
  17. If you can get to the hood release, I'd unplug the battery for a long while and see if that does anything since it seems like cycling the key isn't doing much. The tool kit in the trunk should have the combination wrench that you can use to unplug the battery. Keep us posted, this is very interesting, I've been on this forum a while, and I've never heard of a LS going in to a full lock down mode like this!
  18. I use it all the time when it's hot outside. Cracking the window really makes a huge difference. It would be nice if it was remote controlled, but it's usually worth it to walk out there and roll the window down so it's not 1,000* when I get in!
  19. I wouldn't drop the pan just to change the filter, but if you do plan on checking the solenoids, then, it might not be a bad idea to change it. I replaced my transmission filter when my car had something like 250k miles, and the filter still looked like new.Hinge wiring tutorial: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lighting/bulbout.html -Blake
  20. Welcome Terry! Try http://www.car-part.com --it's a network of junkyards, and I'd bet some of them might be close to you if you live in Dallas/Houston/Austin. I bought a master cylinder from TAP a while back, and I was very pleased with the part and price. I called them though. ;)
  21. It's a little too much contrast for me (maybe red would be better?), but the trunk looks great sans the Civic badge!
  22. LOL Or, it might cost a lot of "doe!" haha Rob, I hope they get your car fixed up good as new! I had some body work done a few years back, and it amazed me by how well they color matched the existing paint. I had a deer run out in front of me while I was barreling down the interstate a few years back; luckily, my horn scared it off. It did take about 10 minutes for my heart to stop fibrillating though! LOL That would have been one hell of a mess if I had hit it.
  23. I agree with the others, I wouldn't buy a LC with these high gas prices unless you need to tow/haul something. Also, if I were getting a LC, I'd have to have a '98+ because they look so much better than the older ones, and they have a V8.
  24. If it drives well, I'd definitely buy it! Black onyx is a bad color for highway cars. Mine has some spots where the paint is thin, but from 4 feet away, it looks like new, so it doesn't bother me too much--certainly not enough to merit a repaint.Blake
