  1. That's a very good question. I don't know how anyone who spends tens of thousands of dollars on utilities for their home can lecture anyone about "Global Warming" and conservation. I'm so worried about global warming--that's what I was thinking as it snowed about 3"-5" in North Louisiana last Friday. Snow in March in Louisiana...it must be getting too hot here.
  2. Great video!! I love the first gen LS--it still looks great after all these years, and it's such a significant car for Lexus. B) Considering the w126 came out in 1979, it still looks great! B) I agree the LS400 could still be sold today, but I also think the same could be said for the Jag XJ since the exterior changes have been fairly minor over the past 20-30 years.
  3. Yep, the glovebox changer was a $1,000 option for 1995. Congrats on your new rig! It looks great, and I'm sure it will provide you with many years of faithful service. Has the ECU ever been changed?
  4. 1995 LS nearing 308,000 miles: I get in the 13's in 100% city (a small town with trips no longer than 10 minutes.), and 29-30mpg strictly on the hwy with a/c running, running around 75-80mph.
  5. I thought it would cost a lot more than $10k to fix your car, especially considering the list of parts they are replacing. How do you like the Lucerne? I know it's no Lexus, but it seems like a lot of car for the price. I like how spacious they are(lots of head and legroom!), but it's a shame that they are fwd, and the styling of the rear end seems a little akward!
  6. Here's a little PDF tutorial that our good friend Denny (vbdenny) put together...Lexus_Taillight_Bulb_Replacement.pdf
  7. Depending on how many miles Mark has, it might be a good idea to change the springs too. I just changed the springs on my LS, and they made a HUGE difference in ride quality, but I did have over 300,000 miles on the old springs. :D I take it you changed your shocks a long while ago becuase prices have gone way up on these parts! I remember grumbling about paying $70 a piece for shocks when I changed mine a few years ago, but that's nothing compared to the $120 they go for now!
  8. Hurschel, the seat is easy to remove. The bottom seat cushion is just snapped in place. Give it a firm tug on the driver and passenger's side to release the snaps, and then, lift it up (to release the 2 big hooks that hold it to the seat back.) and out. After you remove the bottom seat cushion, you'll see 4 bolts along the bottom of the seat back that you'll need to remove. Removing the bottom seat cushion will also reveal the 3 bolts you need to remove to release the seat belts. Lastly, there are 3 bolts along the top of the seat back that need to come out-1 behind each headrest and 1 in the armrest cavity.
  9. Are you sure your '95 has side airbags? We didn't get them in the US until '97. ;) Just remove the 4 bolts that hold the seat, 1 bolt for the seat belt, unclip the wiring harness underneath the seat, and it should come right out.
  10. Any pictures....especially of the cutoff?
  11. David, I just sent Chris (akewlguy) an email, and I'll let you know if I hear from him. ;) -Blake
  12. SRK, is this paint something you can find online (like a spray paint), or did you have a body shop do this? Is this paint similar to something like this:http://www.autopia-carcare.com/wus-892181.html?
  13. I'd have no reservations about getting another steering wheel from a wreck because this is the first time I've ever heard of this part failing. Try car-part.com. I bought a wheel (for my '95) in pristine condition on that site for $100 (I swaped it out because of the leather. ;) ), and you can easily change it out in your driveway in about 20 minutes.
  14. Metra makes a double din for all LS400s. http://documents.victorytechnologies.com//...uct/95-8156.pdf If you want something a bit nicer, I'm sure that almost any audio shop could custom build a double din for you. ;)
  15. There are wires to replace but check the resistance on them first. I'd go with OEM wires (if you need to replace them) because they fit like a glove--each wire is cut to the exact length. I've always run iridium plugs, and I've got no complaints as far as mileage or performance is concerned. Also, a 10" extension for your ratchet with a spark plug socket makes it quiet easy to fish the plugs out. ;)
  16. It sounds like it might be your egr pipe. Before I capped mine off, it would make an awful ticking noise when accelerating from roughly the same rpm range you mentioned. Can you replicate the noise just by revving the engine?
  17. One year seems awfully short, or is that normal for the Silverstars? I put PIAA bulbs in my car back in 2004, and I just had one burn out on me a few weeks ago, which was 3.5 years after the bulb was installed.
  18. That's terrible news Ralph. I hope you (passengers?) weren't hurt. At least they have insurance....I'd hate to see that repair bill! Good body shops can do amazing things, so I'm sure your car will come back from Texas looking like new!
  19. I moved that thread to the trash, and don't worry, you missed nothing good. ;)
  20. I've been running NGK and Denso iridiums since day 1 with no problems at all.
  21. I just typed in 2009 Sonata in Google, and I found a lot of pics and info (but I first saw the '09 in a Car and Driver comparison.). My dad came to visit me this weekend, and he had a Sonata GLS rental. I LOVED it. It was still in great shape eventhough it had 17k miles on it which is way more than I've ever seen on a rental. It is a great car-high quality, smooth ride, very comfortable, and I loved the steering wheel audio controls. And it's a bargin at $19k!
  22. It turns the keyless entry chirp on and off. It's page 10 in the US '95 LS Owners Manual. ;)
  23. Yep, it's his Matrix....the Ford is sold. ;) BTW, Josh, I hope you are doing ok today (since you had to go in to the fight with no back-up! lol)! hahaha
  24. I really like the way the Genesis looks. It reminds me of an Infiniti. I hope it sells well! I'm really lovin' the refreshed '09 Sonata too! That's a great looking car! B) Read the March 08 issue of Car and Driver. The Sonata scored better than the Camry. It sounds like you haven't driven a late model Hyundai based on your comments because they are quite nice. Go drive a new Sonata, you'll be impressed. I have to agree though that it will be tough for most people to pay $35k for a "Hyundai."
