  1. Hey, that's great! It shows they really care about safety, even on their oldest models.
  2. Welcome Link! Doing a LS oil change is similar to other cars, here's how: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lubrication/oilchange.html 5w30 is the recommended oil. The brand is up to you, everyone has their favorite. Buy 6 liters/quarts. The exact fill spec is listed in my tutorial. Very easy job since it's engineered so well. Many many other first gen LS tutorials on my website.
  3. You need to make friends with an LS owner in Japan ;), they can find them in the junkyards there.
  4. A moonroof is a variation of a sunroof. It can also be called an internally sliding sunroof. It is a glass or steel panel that retracts fully back into the headliner and not outside the car. Moonroofs usually also have another internal panel which can be used to completely close off light if desired. The sunroof is an umbrella term for all types. The most general sunroof is the pop up and that pops up in the back manually to allow air out. There are also top-sliding and tilt and slide sunroofs, and more too. Lot's of subtle differences so you can see why everyone is confused.
  5. Maybe your battery just needs to be replaced? Maybe it can't hold a charge anymore...
  6. I have never seen just the lens on ebay :whistles: . As far as I know you can only buy the whole headlight assembly.
  7. Yes, just buy a new set. Pull the old ones off and put the new ones on. Done.
  8. Those clear headlights are a special JDM thing. I think some company in Japan converts them to all clear....not sure though. I am sure that the headlights in the pic are the JDM standard ones. They are one piece instead of two piece like we have in the US. Sometimes you can import them but it would be VERY expensive. Just buying new headlights here is like $300 per side!
  9. Ehhh, not that I know of. You're going to need to remove the seat, 4 bolts, and disconnect the connectors. Then you'll probably have to take apart the bottom of the seat.....
  10. I've got experience with both too. What Blake said is really good, I totally agree with him. My mother recently got a 99 ES and I have a 91 LS...... -The LS is more solidly build. I've inspected both and the LS parts are very heavy duty. -The LS has more power, although it's heavier. The ES feels like it's faster but it's really not. The ES is definitely more "sporty" excellent pickup. -The ES gets better MPG. If you're concerned about gas prices don't get an LS! Man, I hope the new hybrid LS gets better than 30 MPG!!! -The LS is obviously bigger. And it also feels bigger when you drive it. I'm 5' 10" and it has PLENTLY of room for me! -The LS is bigger and more expensive to keep up. It can be costly to own so beware. -That's all I can do for now..... Both are great cars and so it really boils down to how much you want to spend and your wants. Personally, I would find it very hard to buy anything other than an LS. However, my mother LOVES her ES and it fits her well. It's personal. If you go LS make sure to read my article on the generations so you know more about it......good luck!
  11. Hahha, I love that movie ! You're right, it does feel really good doing stuff yourself. I'm glad you've started. Not only are you saving money, there's the satisfaction factor as well.
  12. First gen have all the same tank ;)
  13. Dude, I know you're playin....but still, lay off the wacky tobaccy! You guys really believe that?, come on!! From what I've heard the new LS is going to be called the LS460 and it will come in 3 models. Long wheelbase, short wheelbase, and a hybrid model. I have no idea what it looks like but I'm sure it will impress us.
  14. When my fuel light comes on and I refill ASAP I put in around 19 gallons I believe. That means that you have over 3 gallons remaining in the tank before it's completely dry. Keep in mind that you should refill when you get to 1/4 tank, just to keep the fuel pump in good order. So, I'd say after the light goes on you can go at least 40 miles before it's totally dry....depends on many things though.
  15. These two O rings are in the rebuild kit, right? Just wondering because I'm getting ready to rebuild my pump soon....ehhh. I think I'm going to buy a new PS high pressure hose too....is it needed?
  16. Don't gamble with this, change it around 90K as Lexus recommends. The engine will be in serious trouble if it breaks. Yeah, these belts can last a long time, but then again, some don't. I've never heard of one breaking in less than 90K though. Change it and you don't have to worry.
  17. Exactly what I was about to say :), check your owner's manual and you'll see this. I've got NGK irridium plugs in now and they're just fine. Denso or NGK, it's up to you, both are good.
  18. The impact wrench should be able to take off just about any bolt. You should also get an angled impact socket joint and extensions for it. A breaker bar is good for times when you can't use the impact gear. Good luck, I know what you're going though!
  19. Get a part quote from irontoad.com Your 96 should be similar to mine: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/body/fdoorhandle.html
  20. What do you need done? I'm in Miniapp and may be able to help you. I do know an independant mechanic who knows imports in the area. Please email me if you want more info <_< .
  21. Yup, the O2 sensors monitor the fuel/air ratio. Usually you do get a check engine light if one goes out. However, this doesn't always happen. I had no check engine light but my main O2 sensors were out of spec......still working though. See my site for more info. Replacing all 4 sensors DID help bring my MPG back to normal range. They should be changed every 60K or so I believe, most people don't and they get a check engine light.
  22. It was $13,200 + a load of taxes. Yeah, I made a push for the VVT-i models. It definitely has plenty of power and drives incredibly smooth, we're very happy :D.
  23. Here are a few pics of my mothers "new" 1999 ES. It's got about 60K on it and still has the new car smell, color is sage. The interior is nearly perfect, but the exterior has a few dings (not noticeable). We'll be getting the body stuff fixed at some point. Tomorrow, or should I say today, I will be giving it a more thorough inspection. I'm going to stick to my LS but this is a great car too!
  24. I've done this before on a different car. You want to jack it up and then put it on jack stands. You don't want any pressure when you're working with the suspension. The job should be pretty simple as long as you don't encounter any tough bolts.
