  1. They bought the 1999 today :D !!! Man, I just took it for a long test by myself and it drives perfectly, very impressive. It even has that new car smell still! Yes, the guy gave us all records. I'll do a new post soon with pics so you guys can see. Thanks for your input and advice guys, I appreciate it. Closed!
  2. Tonight we looked at the 99 that still has over a year with the platinum warranty. The car is in very good shape with lower miles (59K). We made an offer and are currently waiting to see if the guy accepts. He's finding it hard to part with it, I can understand :) . Anyway, yeah the 99 is nearly the same as the 00 and we want low miles. I like the 00 tails better but hey, this is for my mom and she doesn't care! It's not the money, it's the selection that's the problem. There are very few 99 & 00 ES's for sale around here right now . I'll know within a few days if the search is over or will go on..........
  3. We've looked at about 5 and driven 2. We drove one last night but it was way overpriced and very dirty so that one is out. After lot's of talk and research we decided to also consider 1999 ES's. Today we're looking at a 1999 and it still has a platinum warranty. The 99 is nearly the same as the 00 from what I have read. Just some minor differences like the tail lights, etc. I'll keep you posted!
  4. Hey ES guys, this is my first post in this forum :) Well I'm helping my parents find a new car and we are seriously considering a newer ES. I just wanted to see if you guys have any advice for me. I read the FAQ but there's not much info on the 2000 ES...probably since it's still pretty new. For prices, is $10-$15K good for a 2000 with less than 100K miles? Also, the timing belt interval on this car is every 90K, right? Thanks!
  5. How do you add the coolant stuff once you've got a new compressor in? Do you have to bring it in to get the system charged?
  6. Even though it's at the top I would think a bunch of coolant would spill out.... Have you done this without draining the coolant or is this just a hunch? Doesn't make much difference to me, just wondering :whistles: .
  7. Not sure, we should plan for a Saturday though since most people aren't working then. I'll try to coordinate things and willl keep you guys posted.
  8. WOW, love it! High miles but it's an LS, not a problem. I see you're in Miniapp, you should come to a meet sometime. We've only had a few but it's fun. You'd definitely have the newest Lexus in the bunch. I'm the only LS so far but we have a few modded GS's.
  9. The grill emblem is screwed on with one screw. The rear emblems both have pins that insert into the trunk lid. If you want to remove them you need to have a body shop shave them off....basically fill the hole with a small weld and then repaint a small area.
  10. That's if you really know what you're doing ;). I think it would take me all day, especially since I take a lot of pics :whistles: .
  11. Hey, it's not like I did a scientific study on this....I don't have pre and post emissions readings . I can tell you I got better mileage after replacing them. I'm not pulling your arm here, get whatever you want, I don't care. Just giving you a money saving option :D. If you want to pay more for OEM ones I don't mind at all. It's personal preference in a nutshell. Good luck with whatever you get :) .
  12. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/mainoxygensensor.html I got mine from oxygensensors.com. You just remove the factory o2 sensors and splice them onto the universal ones. After replacing mine I got better mileage. Can't say specifically though.
  13. Get the newest LS you can afford. That said, be realistic. I say pay cash and get an older first or early second gen LS, that would be realistic for you. With some of the left over money you can mod, repair, and restore. With the remaining money you could have a nice down payment on a house! Don't blow all the army money on a new car!
  14. Glad to hear YOU are OK bro :), very sorry to hear about your Lex :o. A few scrapes isn't too bad if you're still walking, consider yourself lucky. You're alive, you'll move on, you'll get another car, your wounds will heal...life sucks sometimes but you gotta suck it up and live on.
  15. The hardest part will probably be getting the old one off. Basic steps... 1) Drain coolant 2) Remove valve 3) Install new valve 4) Fill coolant
  16. Army, first and foremost, thank you for your service. I appreciate it, everyone I know appreicates it, and I'm sure everyone else does too. One of my best friends is also in the military, reserve actually. He served over a year in Iraq, got a purple heart (he's ok), and is now home safe. He told me today that he's going out again. Anyway....sounds like you're just starting if you need to go to basic.
  17. I've been trying to tell people of this for years now: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/repairmanual.html It's info straight from the source and ten bucks is a great deal....you just have to spend several hours downloading. You can get ALL the info on your car there if you want. Try it, you'll like it <_< .
  18. Check out the engine bay for any leaks. The big one is going to be the power steering fluid resevoir, check around that base for leaking. Also drive it over some small cracks in the road or small potholes to listen for any clunks, that may indicate new upper control arms. Verify that the AC works.....very costly repair.
  19. Don't bother, it's illegal. Don't even put them inside your LS.
  20. Happy B-day bro , only one more year!
  21. Yes, I would love to get a tutorial on this! Just email me when you're ready and we can go from there.
  22. Not a whole lot of info but interesting. I would like to see a hybrid LS.
  23. Hey Kenny, welcome to LOC . Good to have a real mechanic aboard. It sounds like you've done most of the needed repairs on an LS of this age. Once all these things are addressed you're going to be able to just drive and enjoy! Since you are qualified you should try doing some tutorials if you do a procedure. They help many LS owners out there. All ya need is a camera! Anyway welcome :D
  24. Sounds like good advice SRK. Once you find the seized caliper rebuild it and you're back in business.
