  1. To my knowledge, that speaker is powered separately from the rest of the sound system speakers. That is, by the nav/head unit itself. It could be something very simple such as a loose wire connection to the speaker, a speaker coil going bad. Simple fixes. Or, something in the nav unit itself which would need some expertise to find and repair. Your dealer would probably be able to do the job by replacing the whole nav unit. Expensive. A GOOD qualified car audio repair shop would probably be able to repair it if they can get the part. e-bay is always a good place to look for parts.
  2. Actually, I never noticed a thing! Thanks, Paul
  3. Hi David, At first blush, I would say your on the right track. It is more likely to be an XM/satellite issue than a Lexus hardware issue. The "unauthorized" message is a good clue. The satellites do go down and up all the time. You may have a billing problem/snafu that is causing them to mess with your signal authorization. My suggestion is to call XM first and have tech support check it out before seeing the dealer.
  4. http://skenedesign.com/FPBracket/index.shtml ??? I found this, but you may have already looked at it. Paul Thanks Paul. I found that site too. This design requires drilling two holes on the bottom lip of the bumper which I was hoping to avoid. Also, do not believe there is the minimum space required to attach the bracket. Did find a gominigo.com site which shows a picture of a non drill bracket on an RX350 that fits in the tow bolt hole and mounts the plate off center. An interesting look. Cost is $85.00 plus shipping which is more than I hoped to spend to put a front plate on the vehicle. That is pretty pricey...but look at it this way, this is why God made Duct Tape!! LOL

  7. Rob I can't tell what year your ES is, but on my 2010 the button is under the dash, to the right of the steering column, next to the Trac Stabilty button. Also, just to give you something to do today, find a dictionary with the word "programmatically" in it and tell me what it means. LOL... Paul
  8. They don't around here either. The only time I see a price advertised is on a used car. Silly me. I guess I'm missing the entire purpose of this thread. According to the OP: "People are always wondering if their getting a fair price on their new car purchase. Here are a few luxury new car prices from the Central Iowa area for a comparison." For some reason, I was expecting prices that people are paying, not lease info. No big deal :) Apparently I haven't met anyones expectations yet. In part it may be due to my initial wording. Also, the pricing information quoted was part of an e-mail sent to me. I tried to copy and paste the entire thing, but that was a no-go. The purpose of the price information is not to tell you what Uncle George dealed to on his latest LX, but to show you current advertised end-of-year sales. It is normally at this time that Lexus will offer a $1,000 "Loyalty" bonus off the msrp. Usually good through December. However, the dealer has the discretion as to how its used. Also, in this area, it is probably true that more Lexus are leased than purchased. So, "Silly me". Paul

  10. First question: Did you forget to attach the price data? As I look at the post, they are listed right below the introduction. Don't click on the "shop at", it takes you to ebay for some reason.

  12. Your best resource for immediate information is a search of the forums. Many, but not all of your topics have been discussed before. Hopefully you can find something there. Have you thought about a rear view mirror backup screen instead of an in-dash? It would take care of your space problem and leave the dash looking more original if that is important to you.
  13. A very special Thanksgiving to all on the LOC. We've got a lot to be thankful for.
  14. Would using this 0W-20 oil in a 2009 ES350 be worth any fuel economy or efficiency gains? Posted 26 November 2009 - 04:57 PM Hi. I have had a VOA (virgin oil analysis) done on Toyota 0w20 oil by two different labs, and the results are extremely good. This looks like a well designed robust oil (made by Idemitsu as far as we can tell) with a ton of Moly in it (a good antiwear additive). It also has a viscosity index in the 210-240 range depending on which lab you believe. A high viscosity index is a good thing. I will be having a UOA (used oil analysis) done when I change the oil, but that won't be until spring. I can then see how well it fared in my RX400h. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbth...3357&page=1 I did a search of the forums and found this thread re; 0w-20 oil. I found it using "viscosity 0w20". There is more on the subject out there. Paul "Trust me, you'll have no trouble running this oil in any Lexus or Toyota (or many other vehicles - Honda 0w20 is also made by Idemitsu, but the VOA on it is slightly different). When I bought a case of 12 from the Toyota dealership, the parts guy showed me an internal Toyota bulletin regarding the 0w20 oil specifically. It IS a synthetic oil, despite the lack of labeling as such on the bottle. The bulletin went on for 4 pages, but it looks like 0w20 will be the ONLY oil spec'd in most upcoming Toyota and Lexus models. It has also been back spec'd for quite a number of Toyota/Lexus engines, but I don't recall which ones. The 2nd generation RX was listed for sure. Best bet if you want to run it on an older engine is to ask your dealership (or Toyota corporate) if your engine has been back spec'd."

  16. Hi Erin, Welcome to the Lexus Owners Club and thanks for your post. You have posted your question in the wrong location. The Club Lounge is for discussion topics of all types, of a non Lexus nature. Your posting needs to be in the "GS" forum under "GS300, 1998". Very few GS owners will see your post in this section so I would encourage you to go to the "GS" forum and place your question there. In the mean time, I will try to answer a few of your questions for you. First, I'm not very familiar with the 1998. Is the CD changer in the glove compartment? If so, you probably would have to keep the replacement changer in the same place and not with the new "Stereo/Head Unit". A reputable car stereo-audio repair and installation dealer would be the best place to take your system for repair. The Lexus dealer is not equipped to repair these components, only replace them IF they can still get them. As part of the Lexus Owners Club, a member named "dcfish" is the authorized outlet for Lexus audio and video equipment. Often he will have components for older models that others do not have. If the car audio repair shop you go to tells you that a Lexus part needs to be replaced, "dcfish" may be able to help. A 10" speaker, ( I assume you mean sub-woofer), with a dedicated amplifier would be a good addition as long as it is matched to the existing systems power requirements.
  17. That's quite a list. I've never seen even half of those options before as there dealer only changes. Where did you find the information?
  18. Your light may be on simply because the Road Side Assistance guy put a little gas in your car and the gas cap was not fully tightened. Then the light would come on. Since you have not refueled the car yet, that cap has not been tightened. Worth a look.
  19. I love the term "Bubba Posse". Fits them and their kind perfectly.

  21. All Lexus Owners Manuals show how to insert a small straight blade screwdriver between the two halves of the remote case and pop them apart. As has been already said, the batteries are readily available. The two halves should just press together. If you bring in your own batteries, your dealer would probably put them in for free. Customer good will.
  22. Welcome to the LOC! All of us will try to help out. I'm not an expert on the ML, but will give you a few ideas that come to mind at first blush. It would be doubtful that it is a torn or "blown" speaker. If that were the case, it would likely sound very distorted, muddy, and fuzzy. That is not what your describing. It could be a crossover filter dedicated to that speaker, or a component in the signal processor. I say signal processor because you talk about that speaker having split second phase delay from all of the other speakers. As I understand it, the Levinson has a "Surround Sound" or what is also called a sound stage feature that is created by some sort of signal processor. If the system is in the Surround mode I would wonder if there might be something going on there that is creating the signal-phase delay. I don't really know for sure. As I said, I'm just spit balling here. Your Lexus dealer would probably start with changing out the speaker. They will have the OEM Levinson speaker, but at a hefty price. Unfortunately, the dealer is not equipped to diagnose these problems, they only replace whole components. To find someone who can diagnose the specific problem, you'll need to find a qualified car stereo installer. If you want to try the speaker first, ( I believe their 8 ohm which is unusual for car specs.), e-bay or some other supplier will be cheaper than the Lexus dealer. However, because in the ML system all of the speakers and their crossover network are matched, you'll need to be carefull to find a replacement speaker,(if that is what the problem is)that is as exact as possible to the original. By doing a search of the forums you may find some names of repair shops that work specifically on Mark Levinson. Others will chime in here who are probably more knowledgeable than I.
