  1. Sounds like a great run!....I'll be there in spirit. Merry Christmas, Paul
  2. Great suggestion. Thanks for the idea, and welcome to the LOC! Be sure and post some more. Paul
  3. Hi Jim, Does the WiFi signal for the car come from a cell tower signal? If so, how do they handle drooped signals as your driving along and varying signal strength? Or is it some sort of satellite setup. When my wife had a Blackberry we would use the Verizon data service and plug it into one of our laptops while we were driving.
  4. I don't know if you two have been involved in any of what seems to be dozens of conversations about this very subject. It never seems to end. If you haven't already a search of the board for this topic would give you a book full of information and opinions.
  5. Hello Jeff77. Welcome to the Lexus Owners Club!! This is a link to a lengthy discussion from the Club Lexus site. As you'll see the transmission fluid needs to be changed when the fluid darkens or begins to have a burnt odor. The "trany" is not a completely sealed unit and in fact, for a complete change of fluids the transmission pan is droped to drain the remaining fluid that does not come out through the drain hole. Your owners manual probably tells you to check your fluid with the dipstick at 30,000 miles, and every 30k there after. So...If the fluid is dark or if it smells burnt, change it. To keep your peace of mind, change it. But at 79,000 it probably won,t need it until 100,000 miles. This is important: It is not a do-it-yourself job UNLESS you are an experienced auto mechanic or have done it before. 8. Pretty creative. I sent it on to my brother who lives in Richmond, VA and drives a RX350 from that dealer.
  9. The 2013 GS has a new 12 inch display screen that is a real WOW! factor. But is it really more funtional???? https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/magazine/articles/Vehicle-Insider/Ready-for-the-Big-Screen?s_ocid=Pursuit:1211:CTA2:LexusMag&cid=Pursuit:1211:CTA2:LexusMag
  10. In spite of billydpowell's rudeness, it is obvious you need new battery cables. Those in the photo are corroded and unable to make a good connection. As far as the starting then dieing problem, I doubt the battery is the problem regardless of the cable connection issue. Someone else will chime in here and help out.
  11. Hi and welcome back! Their are members who know a lot more about your question than I. But I did want to let you know about an alternative search engine that allows you to use 3 and 4 letter words like Gen and Nav and DVD. Go to the top of the page. At the top, right hand side of the page, you will see a small box with faint letters that say "search", and to the right, "forum". Click on search and enter your string. Click on Forum and choose Google. The Google search allows you to use any combination of letters and words. It will access the entire LOC data base. Paul
  12. I was just looking back on this post since you followed up today, and it appears we never did arrive at the definitive way the update IS installed! Can you or anyone else clue me in on the CORRECT procedure? Thanks, Paul
  13. It's probably to late, but for future needs, the LOC has a relationship with Sewell Lexus in Dallas, TX. They offer hefty discounts on parts to all LOC members. Simply go to Sewellparts.com - and register as a Lexus Owners Club member. It would be interesting to know if they are cheaper that what you paid for the part you already purchased. Paul
  14. Hi 10ga, Welcome to the Lexus Owners Club and the 136,000 members around the world. Your question is a little vague...could you explain some more about the noise. For example, how did it start, what kind of driving were you doing, have you had any previous engine repairs, or any maintenance work done recently. How many miles on the GS? WHY do you think it's the water pump and what would you like a LOC member to help you with....confirm your suspicion, maybe offer another option for the solution. Look forward to hearing from you. Paul
  15. Sounds like you might be able to save the patient after all!!! Happy Days! If you have to take the bumper cover off and it runs into some money, just send the bill to Lenore....he is a very generous and giving man. Especially around Christmas. LOL!! Merry Christmas to you and yours Chip.
  16. So what's the current chapter? Just wanted to check in. Found some information about Carfax as it pertains to its accuracy: Information sources Carfax has access to eight billion records from more than 34,000 sources, including motor vehicle departments for all 50 U.S. states and all 10 Canadian provinces. The company's information sources include U.S. state title and registration records, auto and salvage auctions, Canadian motor vehicle records, rental and fleet vehicle companies, consumer protection agencies, state inspection stations, extended warranty companies, insurance companies, fire and police departments, manufacturers, inspection companies, service and repair facilities, dealers and import/export companies.[6] Although Carfax continuously expands its database and resources, some information is not allowed to be provided. Under the 1994 U.S. Drivers Privacy Protection Act, personal information such as names, telephone numbers and addresses of current or previous owners are neither collected nor reported.[7] Carfax does not have access to every facility and mistakes are sometimes made by those who input data. In the event information is disputed but cannot be verified, Carfax allows consumers and dealerships to add information to its reports.[8] This may not help, but the following talks about the lack of veracity of the Carfax report. In other words it really is incredibly fallible. What can I do to dispute or correct a Carfax report? I bought a car in 2006 with a clean Carfax report and now 2 1/2 years later when I'm trying to sell it, it turns out Carfax shows an accident that happened in 2005 (a year before I bought it!!) and that they started reporting it in March, 2008. How crazy is that? They also don't offer a case number on the report so I can't even verify that it actually happened. I trusted Carfax when I was buying the car and now it looks like they screwed me over big time! I've been e-mailing them and I keep getting an automated answer that they are not responsible. What can I do? Has anyone had a similar experience with these crooks? I'm not a sue happy person, but it *BLEEP*es me off that their post with unconfirmed info will cost me money. 3 years ago Report Abuse Additional Details And I also had the vehicle inspected before I bought it - apart from some minor scratches on the hood it was fine. I just don't understand how they can post smth like on their report without a case number - no one would be able to find an accident report without the case number Carfax is supposed to make available. 3 years ago by Ansrgeek Member since: May 13, 2006 Total points: 31,380 (Level 7) Add Contact Block Best Answer - Chosen by Voters Hey if an accident occurs in the woods and nobody reports it, did an accident really happen? Too many people believe Carfax has ALL accidents - that is just impossible. Think about it - there are millions of accidents every year reported to thousands of different police departments and many are not even reported! That's why you also have the mechanic's inspection done. This is what it says on each report "A CARFAX Vehicle History Report is based only on information supplied to CARFAX. Other information about this vehicle, including problems, may not have been reported to CARFAX. Use this report as one important tool, along with a vehicle inspection and test drive, to make a better decision about your next used car." On the reports I have seen it also says "Not all accidents are reported to Carfax."
  17. Hey Chip, I'm back but with not good news I'm afraid. I went to the Lexus dealer in Des Moines and talked to Jim, their Master Technician who's been there since the dealership introduced Lexus in 1990. He has more factory training and experience under a Lexus than anyone I've ever heard of. First, he said that Lexus has ALWAYS placed the outdoor temperature sensor in the same place, on all models. It is attached to the back of the bumper, about in front of the radiator toward the passenger side. The sensor, as you know since you bought the part, is about the size and shape of the cap off a stick type ballpoint pen. It is mounted on the bumper facing the open air. I told him you had looked there but it was not there. No sensor, no mounting hardware, no wiring, nada. He was highly doubtful it could fall off, but stranger things have happened. I'm sorry Chip, but I'm afraid I've exhausted my knowledge and logical resources. I don't know what else to tell you. Please let us know what you find out or how you solved it. Paul
  18. Hi Jay, Glad you joined us in the Lexus Owners Club. I don't know the answer to your problem, but some buddy else will chime in here after while and hopefully fix you up. Paul
  19. Let me see if I have all your information. From the model year, 2008, I assume your on a three year lease. Based on the info in your profile box, the car must have approx. 90-105,000 miles on it. The bumper was the only thing damaged. No other damage to the body or undercarriage. The repair amount is $3,000. The buyout is $19,500. The actual market value is ? Replacement value is ? Given all of this, I just wanted to make a case for looking at more than your buyout and the bumper cost. If my figures are correct, do you really want to buyout a car with 100,000 miles on it after only three years. Your the poster child for owning, not leasing. Leasing works best for those that drive less than 12-15k a year. You have got to be killed on excessive mileage! Your going to have to fix the bumper before you turn it in. I would guess that the 3k figure is from your body shop and not from one the leasing company has approved? If you don't fix it before you turn it in, my personal experience has been that the leasor will charge you more than just the repair cost. My advice would be to repair and turn the car in. The cash loss is going to hurt no matter WHAT you choose. But, the car on the lot can't be worth what the buy out is if the numbers above are right.
  20. Hi Lee, Welcome to the LOC. Check out the link below...it should give you a substantial amount of information about your GS. Pau http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_GS
