  1. I would have power washed the engine to make sure all small leaks can be seen easily. I might think it is the oil filter dripping as it is on an angle and over the exhaust manifold a common problem. It is hard to see as it will drip right down the filter and fall on the inside of the manifold where you cannot easily see it unless you look specifically for it. If you can smell it easy i would say that is the problem as it would need to be burned or heated alot to produce a large amount of smell. Another more expensive one is the rear main seal which goes.
  2. We all agree to follow the manuals instructions. Differing to a lower based product is uncommon ,except for some who belive the green coolant is better to use than red.I always laugh when a person posts saying my head is warped or i am loosing coolant then say it is green in colour, especially if they were they ones who replaced it to another colour. Dot 5 is silicone based and can't work with the others but 3 and 4 are mixable. It is like premium and regualr gas jus the amount of refining used to remove moisture and other conaminents. Nothing else to make a higher boil point. Dot 4 doesn't last as long as 3 as it is trying to aborb all the moisture even more than 3 .Dot is used for race cars with high heat braking systems which get flushed regualrly i doubt anyone needs it besides its short work life. Amsoil is a good product , i have used mobil one for 10 yeasr and love it. I migth just try the amsoil now or motul to see if it is a difference. I also have one of the quietest ES 300's i have heard, i chaulk that up to using synthetic oil. To be honest i only change my oil twice a year, once in spring and once in fall. I don;t drive it much but i only really change it for the different oil charecterists of a 0-50 in summer and 0-30 in winter. I have the amsoil atf fluid in my car right now. Kinda pricey but then why did i buy an Es 300 and not a camry it is the same damn car anyway, i use the same argument over anything that is not the best like regualr gas over premium. The only concern i have over the amsoil atf is it is a universal one bottle does all fliud, Maybe they have other ones that are specific but i haev only seen the global ones.
  3. are the rpms raising up higher than normal when flooring the car or is it jerking roms with it. If the rpms move with the jerk then it is an engine problem if the rpms keep raising and not moving with the jerk then it is slipping . Have you checked the intake hose for rips, holes or cracks
  4. It is a simple install but i wouldn;t let them work on anything .
  5. your right there are lots of people ripping of others on ebay selling manuals they ahve kept rather than selling them with the car. Luckly lexus offers them for free when you register the car with tehm .This also gives you direct mailings for any warranty work and anyother needed service for tehm to get in touch with you.Don;t worry it is not some stupid mailing list either .Only detremental mailings will be sent.
  6. Throttle obdy cleaner is amazing ,i do it at every oil chaneg and it has dramatic results in my wifes car more than mine since i don;t do hers as much and she gets lots of carbon from city stop and go 15 minute drives. well worth $5
  7. The plunger on the solenoid is not releasing. It is either sticking with carbon deposits on the swing arm or the contacts. If you hurry up and clean it you might save the starter from burning out,.
  8. I don;t know of any factory alarm with a shock sensor as it could be more problems for a them with falsing. Are you sure it had an interior shock sensor or glass shatter sensor? it might have been added to the existing one. The hood trunk or a door being open including unlocking a cars doors from the inside is what lexus uses for it factory theft system.
  9. All fuel gauges use a sending unit and gauge that are rated with a curve not equal to amount. The 1/2 point is never half but usually under half a tank.Just liek when the low light comes on i have about 100km before it is bone dry. the first upper half of tank on a needle registers is about 60-70% used of a full one. While it gets more accurate for when the gas gets low so you can se it move and adjust when you need to get gas sooner or later.
  10. It was 155 for a caliper and labour or a rotor and labour? 155 alone not labour is very good for a caliper but it usually won;t cause squeeling. An es and ls have different calipers and rotors they are much bigger on an lsbut the same floating caliper design. They are easy to chane just 2 bolts and the brake line bolt and it is off for a caliper. the rotor needs the carrrier arm for the caliper removed which should be another 2 bolts more and that is it.
  11. A higher ocatane is going to ignite later in the combustion process as it resists ignition more than regualr. It sounds backwards but it is how the engine was designed. This definatly comes into play when the engine is older and has carbon deposit buildup in the chamber which will cause preignition as well as a knock for an off timed igntion in a chamber ,thus your knocking or puttering. You may need a good fuel cleaning like a motorvac. Th bottled stuff works but only so good. A motorvac uses high presure cleaing in the fuel rail and cleans all the crap out of the engine.99% of people say the car drives like it was new after as all the carbon removed incerases mpg and horsepower by reducing backpressure and leaking valves.
  12. pay pal works fine once all the peices and price is verified
  13. An ls cannot drift. You need a light car with moderate power like an ae86 or ae 92 ( corrolla's rear wheel) or a nissan slyvia 240 sx or lots of power in a supra or 350 z to be able to hold the car sideways while spinning wheels .Also drifting is an art and and easy way to toal a car it engine and especially its tires within a second when not in controlled enviorments. The LS is way to heavy and underpowered to get the rear lit up and loose.
  14. A blinking a/c light means compressor lock up.Get a better shop to repair your car.
  15. Look in the yellow pages for a rad repair shop. They can recore it and repair it or replace it very fast and xtremly cheap as it is so easy to do. The abs problem is probably one of your wheel hubs being worn and the bearing is causing it to move out of tolerance.Beware the abs sensor even if good will need to be replaced as well when replacing the hub as it cannot be removed easily without destroying it.
  16. Most every vehilce not jsut lexus had a revamp in models and all airbags so any post 97 LS will not fit a pre,as that is when the goverment made dual stage airbags law as well as crash data recorders so the police can tell you did what and at what speed in a crash. You will notice all 97 and newer ones have smaller airbags. the wheel bolts in fine just the airbags wiring and the spokes are different so it won;t fit
  17. Do you have an aftermarket alarm or anything else addded to the car?
  18. The odd part is the lexus car kit speaker is supposed to work through the drivers door speaker not another seperate speaker. I might suggest you have a wiring problem in the trunk like many other owners which is causing a bad ground in the trunk arm. Search the posts from a couple of days and you will find it and how to fix it.
  19. did it take 3 hours to replace the gasket or to adjust the windows. If it was just the gasket you got hosed. I removed mine tonight within 3 minutes and replaced it within 10 as it is a tongue and groove fit with pins at the middle and ends.
  20. In urban areas a fuel filter is hardly ever going to be replace. In deep rural areas with older stations with rusty holding tanks it is going to be more nessacary to be replaced. The filter is about 2-3 inches across and 4 high so it is pretty big if i am remembering it right .It should be located along the firewall beside the brake booster. Just like any other filter has 2 ends to be released and replaced. I replaced mine on my 94 in 01 and i found almost nothing in there as there is a sump filter also which keeps sediment in the tank most of the time anyway.
  21. Basically a orbital is a higher speed reproduction of a normal hand movement so a soft pad of terry cloth is needed.Make sure you get a mouth gueard as it will start to rattle your teeth after a the first step. I prefer to add the wax by hand as it doesn;t need a buffer to apply or remove. If you have lots of time apply the wax with your hand .It takes a long time and your hand will cramp but it gets really smooth and nice after and the heat from your hand smooths it out more evenly and uses alot less than a cloth does to apply.BUt i am a bit crazy . I am usuing the same app style as tehy do for the zymol concours wax which comes in a refillable crystal jar for $2000.
