  1. Thanks all - you have helped me made up my mind for sure..... We're gonna roll with a 98/99 LS come May if not sooner. Hey - this means I can stay on as a member
  2. I'm looking to buy my wife a new car. Originally we were just going to replace her 1996 Lexus LS400 with a 1999. However recently we have been considering a move to the Jaguar S Type. I have been reading on both and obviously they are both good cars - the Lexus obviously being better. Both of us like the Jag more so however and the price is a bit less - by about $2-$4k. The only data I cannot find in any detail is a direct comparison of cost bewteen the two in terms of repairs. I know how expensive the Lexus happens to be.... huh my neighbors kid wants to buy our 96 when we sell it and I told him that if the car had any problems that he'd probably have to quit school and get a real job just to fix the thing. Any Jag owners out there? Thanks in advance.
  3. What exactly has gone bad on the LCD (where?)
  4. I understand that but the fact that it came on was quite puzzling because the traction control has been stuck in TRAC OFF since we bought the car. I would think it would be hard for the system to engage if it were cut off at the switch. Thanks
  5. The TRAC OFF light has been on for quite some time. In fact the prior owner (fiances dad) stated that it only meant that the traction control was not working and that it would cost a bundle to fix it. Now my fiance just called and said that another TRAC light just went off? Are there more then one (I do not have the manual with me). Also any suggestions to fix the TRAC OFF situation. As always - thanks all!
  6. Thanks for the link on the plugs! Hey all I was looking at the manual I have for the car and there is no diagram with data on where I need to start removing pannels in order to get to the plugs. Does anyone know where I can find such a thing (I have never done this before). Also should I replace the distributor cap as well or just stick with the plugs and wires?
  7. In an earlier post I had mentioned that our LS was sputtering - sort of a hic-up when accelerating. Some of you suggested that this could be a spark plug issue - for which I have the parts to swap but have yet to do so. In anycase me being the cynical type, I was putting regular fuel into the car when I drove it. My wife was as well (it's her car). She decided to go with the recomended premium and according to her the car seems to "hic-up" less then it did before. So I guess the fuel really does make a difference?
  8. My cap has nothing which tells me whether I am low on fluid. All it has is Hot stamped in on one side and Cold on the other. How in the world to I tell if I am low? Thanks in advance!
  9. I am looking for a board member who was on here at least 2 years ago. She seems to have disapeared off the face of the earth and my wife and I are beginning to get worried. Her AIM handle was is300gurl and she's from Illinois. Her real name is Kelly Bishop. I know that she has many friends out there in the IS300 world and has been to numerous meet and greets. We'd like to find her so if you can help please PM me anytime. Thanks and Kind Regards -Andy & Jamie
  10. Thanks for the response. One more question though..... Will I need metric tools for this process though?
  11. I am going to change the plugs and wires on out LS400 (1990) this weekend - hopefully before the GP of Australia starts :D I have never done this on a foreign car and thus I am wondering if there is a particular brand(s) I should look to buy and where to get them..... Mind you I need to get them by Saturday so more then likely this needs to be some place I can just walk in to. Finally I am wondering if I need anything special in terms of tools - any extentions/metric or if there is any particular process I should follow that any of you would recommend? Thanks in advance!
  12. Those look like the newer rear lights on the ES. Obviously it's an earlier LS400 though.... Where can I get those!!!!????
  13. Thanks for the help - I'll try changing the spark plugs this weekend.
  14. New Member here - Hi all. We have a 1991 Lexus LS400 which hic-ups frequently. This does not occur while the transmission is changing gears but instead randomly. Once and awhile the car will bound the revs and at times it will even die. We just replaced the battery and the fuel filter (not orginal Lexus parts however). Any suggestions before I bring old Big L in and drop a grand.
