  1. Agreed! You might pick up a 97 ES for around that price, but I doubt a GS. B)
  2. Call a couple more Lexus dealers to find out. What's wrong with the GS lips spoiler to begin with? Looks pretty good to me. B)
  3. Falken's are a Japanese tire & made in Japan.......you won't find a better tire for the money!! B)
  4. If your buying used, get ALL service & maintenance records & make sure they are up to date. After that, it's condition, condition, condition! B)
  5. I'm just going by my own personal experences (under the conditions I drive in here in Canada) I have had with the 3 cars I have put a K & N air filter in. Slightly increased throttle response, slightly better fuel economy (for all 3 vehicles) over the paper filters. B)
  6. If a car was maintained as well as you say this one has been..........the body condition should speak for itself. B)
  7. 19's are the largest I could find too. B)
  8. All Lexus models are rated quite high. My biased guess is the ES, GS & naturally the LS. B)
  9. lol, I agree! :whistles:
  10. Not entirely true......I do not take my car to Lexus for service.......I keep detailed records (including brand & grade of oil used) so if there is any question......that 'objection' is not gonna fly. My suggestion at this point is to try & talk with someone who is able to make a fast decision on this issue & have the service manager at your Lexus dealer involved as well to go to bat for you so to speak....so your not without a vehicle for that long. Failing that, I guess the answer is to play the waiting game. :(
  11. I've gotton over 500 miles (800 kms) several times when I switched from a new Lexus paper filter to a K & N........best I could do with a paper was 440 - 460 miles....I'm not convinced any damage is being done with the K & N filter. ;)
  12. Yes, I think I used 3.75 qts of ATF fluid for my last 2 drains (with diff). ← Thanks! B)
  13. From your description, you have done a 'partial major tune up'. I would change the fuel filter, air filter, have the throttle body cleaned & adjust your tire pressure (assuming this has not been done). Perhaps a couple of tanks of premium fuel wouldn't hurt either. B)
  14. Any idea if the car has been rust-proofed? Where was the car parked during it's life (IE underground, garage, outside, heated garage etc). If all service records were performed, chances are the body was cared for with frequent car washes.....if you get a mechanical inspection, have the mechanic look at the undercarriage to get an idea of the condition of the body when it's on the hoist. Many think buying a vehicle that has seen winters with road salt etc is bad........it's not if it was properly cared for with many washes & rust-proofing. Salt only damages a vehicle if the temp goes above freezing in the winter when covered heavily with salt........most flush the car when it's milds up preventing any body damage. B)
  15. I have always done a drain and fill every 30 to 40K miles and never had a tranny fail yet. Been using Amsoil for 50K miles and so far so good. I like the color (always red) but the smell is important to me. I like a non-burnt smell. So far the smell is the same as new when I drain. I would just drain every 20K with a dino fluid and 30 to 40K with a synethic. I do it every 35 to 40K miles; depends on outside temps (to cold to mess with car). ← A drain & fill requires about 3.5 qt's.......is that about right mburn? B)
  16. Mine is a foot unit & if the cable & related components are in good shape, it's as simple as an adjustment. B)
  17. Fair enough. ;)
  18. VMF, it appears the plugs on your 96 LS should be replaced with laser platinum plugs.......long life iridiums are not available (NGK Iridium IX do not last as long as OE iridiums.....but they are available). I suggest you use the laser plats. The NGK part number for your LS for Laser platinums are: BKR6EP-8 NGK stock number 2215 gap is .032 If yo insist on using the NGK IX iridiums, the part number is: BKR6EIX stock number 6418 with the same gap as above. Denso cross reference# for laser platinum - PK20R8 Hope this helps. B)
  19. If your doing a drain & fill every 15 - 30k miles I wouls stick with the 'drain & fills'. Having said that, I did a 100% fluid change about a year ago because I wanted to clean the filter mesh screen & replace the tranny pan gasket as a preventitive measure (I will be doing drain & fills from here on in every 2 years or 30k miles). I will do another 100% flush at the 60k mark again to replace & clean the aformentioned parts again......I will also be switching to Amsoil synthetic ATF which is compatable with BOTH dexron III & Toyota type IV fluid. B)
  20. You bought the wrong car my friend if you wanted to do 'serious' modifications.....you can do a few to 'slightly' increase power.....but it won't be earth shattering. It's built for comfort & luxury more so than ultra high performance. B) Welcome to the club! ;)
  21. I've never had any bad experences (bad sensors etc) with any K & N filter I have used.......also I have noticed my engine oil appears to stay cleaner longer than with conventional paper filters. I doubt any engine damage is or has occured since 2 trips to & from Florida, I got over 500 miles on a tank of gas on mor than 1 occasion. ;)
  22. Both NGK & Denso are OEM. B)
  23. Welcome to the club! B) I think you made a very wise choice. Best of luck with you LS. ;)
  24. That makes me feel good steviej......If it's good enough to wear the Toyota name. B)
