  1. Just wondering mburn, you mention that your 98 is in fact a 'sludge' engine. Why not get Lexus to replace it under their warranty & continue using the Amsoil like you are only with a 'new' engine without the sludge issue? Or are you planning to do that anyways 'just before' the 8 year warranty expires? (or are you past that point)? B)
  2. Perhaps post some pics of the car might help. Just a suggestion. B)
  3. What is the exact tire size you need & what tires are your considering? Perhaps I can assist with suggestions. B)
  4. How much will the parts be to fix the repair & how many hours labour is involved? The Lexus factory warranty as stated earlier is until 70,000 miles so Lexus is within their rights to deny a warranty claim based on mileage. Did you get a Lexus Extended warranty? B)
  5. Where is your Lexus tech located sk? B)
  6. So it will add another $11 for 1-year (5 qt sys) with better numbers? I think so but I still use the asl for another 8 months......:) I am going to try it after this 13K+ mile run.... Also why do you change 3 times per year??? ← I'm considering only twice (every 6 months both oil & filter change). I guess my 3 Amsoil oil & filter changes are overkill huh? My Dad is only doing it twice a year with Amsoil on his 2002 Buick Century......perhaps I should follow considering it's good for 1 year or 25,000 miles. Just concerned about the gelling & I have the Lexus extended warranty. ;)
  7. Never heard of a ceramic tint......who makes it & what's it all about? give us the website of the company. I know that 'metalized' is about the best one can use. B)
  8. Whatever you decide, I would go with one colour all around (looks classier IMO), have it professionally installed & go with a metalizied tint (which is not metallic) in the shade you like. B) Post pics as it really improves the appearance of the car.
  9. Quite the capacity for the little IS. Perhaps because it's the inline 6? B)
  10. Where did he get the work done? at a dealer, independent shop or a friend that is a mechanic? It's a fantastic price to be sure, but I doubt all of us can be so lucky. B)
  11. Yes, there ASL is cheaper and works very well. The only thing there Series 3000 5-w30 is it will shear less and should retain better ZDDP etc. ← But for $2.50+ extra per qt & I change the ASL 3 times a year along with the Amsoil oil filter, is it worth it? B)
  12. Only 6 payments to go for me & my ES is paid for! :D
  13. Overall, I still feel the Amsoil (ASL) 5W 30 is the best value in a long drain interval. The 0W30 was getting up there in price all things considered so I stuck with the ASL which is a good grade '4' I think you said mburn? B) :) So far so good & even got a slight bump in fuel economy since I switched from Mobil 1 to the Amsoil. ;)
  14. I will be taking mine to the dealer when the time comes, but I will call both Toyota & Lexus dealers for quotes before I decide where I take it. But I suggest to indeed take it to the dealer as it is a pretty major service. B)
  15. Agreed, a good quality tint will last many years & not peel or bubble or fade. Don't even think about putting tint over tint (non factory). That tells me the person does not want to do the work involved (and it is a pretty big job) to remove the old tint....find another tint shop but the price will be higher for the extra work. ;)
  16. Never got a date or lost one for not having a remote start personally, but if you say so :whistles: I'm married (did not have remote start to impress here either!) now so what do I know!? lol B)
  17. Many thanks for this link vcv.....yes I am considering purchasing a Highlander for my wife (not giving up my ES ;) ) I will be posting a thread on the Highlander issues very soon to the members. I appreciate your help! B)
  18. My previous suggestions will get you 'out the door' much less than that (including a 4 wheel alignment!) They will perform as good if not better than the Michelins for overall all season performance! ;) I'd give them serious consideration if I were you before making your decision on the Michelins. ;)
  19. I suggest getting a quality (3M, or Llumar brand) 'metalized' & sctatch resistant tint in the 'medium' shade on ALL windows except the windshield of course. ;) Had dinner this evening with my friend steviej as a lot of you know he is in town for a holiday & trying to convince him to put tint on his 02 ES ;) Sharp looking ride hes got & the tint will make it look that much better. B)
  20. For mods on a budget, I suggest tint, K & N air filter, synthetic oil & a major tune up. Not all 'mods' per se but it won't hurt the car & the tint add quite a lot to the appearance of the car. Also consider a strut tower brace.....very inexpensive. Welcome to the club & good luck! We can talk tires down the road! ;)
  21. You are correct india.....I personalyl wouldn't purchase a diamler chrysler (actually Benz owns Chrysler btw ;) ) product from past experences.....new or used. But as sw has mentioned, it all comes down to one's personal opinion on new, used or what brand one chooses. B) Good thread this was I think. ;)
  22. Couldn't have said it better myself SRK! :D B)
  23. Are you looking for an excellent & quiet all season performance tire or a summer set? If all season, I suggest the Falken Ziex ZE-512. http://www.falkentire.com/tires_512.htm The Toyo Proxes TPT. or finally the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...romCompare1=yes Good Luck!! Those are the best available for long mileage, wet weather performance & comfort! B)
  24. RF, take it easy now........sw, myself & whoever else want's to weigh in with our opinions on this subject. I'm not saying I'm totally right or wrong & same goes for sw. I would be courious however with a 'poll' (we like polls don't we everyone? ;) ) which members purchased their Lexus' brand new vs. used (or 'pre-owned' as some like to refer them to B) ). I'd be willing to bet cash on what camp comes out on top! :D I wonder why that is? ;) :whistles: But it's all in good fun on here & the debate will no doubt go on... just like synthetic vs. dino oil, automatic vs. manual, Dorito's vs. Lay's, Yankee's vs. Red Sox lol. It's all good.
  25. hardly the same comparo sw. But nice try! ;)
