  1. I did post a similar question on CL & I think lexusk8 did reply but like you mentioned, something crashed & I lost his reply.....I will try & contact him again. I considered the Conti Extreme's as well.......I think due to the fact it's an UHPAS (ultra high performance all season) tire, it would be "overkill" (but rated really good in the snow mind you) and kind of defeat the purpose of the ES don't you think? No problem with moving my post, I originally thought it might get more responses on the specific ES forums.....but maybe not. Anybody else on the Toyo Proxes TPT's? Thanks.
  2. Has anybody installed Toyo Proxes TPT tires (V rated) on their 97 - 01' ES? I'm staying with the factory size 205 60 16's & am not a fan of the original Michelin MXV4's that came with the car (poor winter & heavy rain performance compared to the Toyo's). One other funny thing is, on the Tirerack website they have just about every tire maker BUT Toyo which seems very strange to me And the choices are not great either.....except a new Yokohama H4s & V4s but you can't get the "V" rated tire in that size. How do the Toyo's rate in your opinion(s)? I will be using them up in the great white north year round (I don't have room for winter rubber so I have to go with a "top shelf" all season & of course drive with "common sense"). My ES has the factory AVS suspension as well. Any feedback is appreciated, Thanks.
  3. Studies have been done on this subject in Canada. Up here, we have 4 major fuel company's.....Shell, Sunoco, Petro Canada & Esso (Esso has links to Exxon/Mobil). The study showed that the VERY best fuel by far was Sunoco (all grades especially the ultra 94) which has the lowest sulphur content PPM & also contained ethonol which is good for the environment & your emission control equipment. Second was Shell, then Petro Canada & way at the bottom was Esso due to the extremely high sulphur content PPM (more than double that of Sunoco). Very noticable on performance when ultra 94 is used. When I travel to the states, I usually use Sunoco or Citgo.
  4. Thanks guy's I have been told (in Canada at least) that Lexus does not make a sunroof wind deflector & I would have to go with an aftermarket part (don't think so). Not sure I agree totally with it would look like a grandmothers Camry lol Whitewalls yes, B) not the wind deflector & then add tint.....but like you said, comes down to individual choice. Any body have pic's of their 97 - 01' ES with a spoiler I can see? I afraid it would look way to close to a camry after that, & need to see one first.
  5. Can I get a front strut tower brace for my 01' ES with the factory AVS (adaptive varible suspension) system? or is it not a wise idea considering I can change the suspension with a switch already?
  6. Does the fuel filter & PCV valve ever need replacing on the 01 ES? The parts department guy at the Lexus dealer (rookie I assume) had no clue & I didn't see it anywhere in the maintenance schedule for the ES I downloaded off the net. Sorry for all the questions here everyone, I just want to make sure the car will be running at it's peak when I pick it up & I am an extremely fussy kind of guy.
  7. Has anybody put a sunroof wind deflector on their 97 - 01' ES? I've been thinking about installing one on my 01' but am worried about the appearance & have not found any other owners that have one with pics? I'm not 100% sure if Lexus even makes this part specifically for the ES. Any thoughts & opinions? I know a rear spoiler would screw up the appearance badly, it's just not that type of car in my opinion at least.
  8. Actually, the K & N air filter subject has been a bit mixed on the LC. Warnings about the mass air flow sensor because of the oil type filter, no horsepower gain and the like. So even now, I'm not sure if I should go and purchase one for my ES. However, as I mentioned in the LC forms, I put one in my 01' Maxima SE & put over 30,000 miles on it without any problems at all......although I never really noticed any significant gains in overall performance or fuel economy (perhaps so small it barely registered?). I'm more concerned with keeping more of the dirt & dust away than anything else......seems that the oil gauze filter would perform better than paper. I have e-mailed K & N but have yet to get a response so that decision is still up in the air... You guy's have talked me into sticking with the Toyota type ATF. I have purchased the "Lexus" extended warranty (good till 120,000 miles or 180,000kms) and the last thing I want to do is put the wrong ATF in the vehicle (synthetic or not) and get a suprise should I ever have any transmission issues. The Toyota ATF like you mentioned, is designed & engineered by Toyota (Lexus) to perform in those vehicles so why mess with a good thing. Not to mention that Toyota ATF will most likely be a lot cheaper than the Mobil 1 synthetic too. I will purchase the ES tranny filter & gasket as well. Thanks for all the advice everyone!
  9. It's been mentioned (advised actually) that I use "Toyota" automatic transmission fluid (instead of Mobil 1 synthetic ATF). Can anybody explain why exactly? - Also when doing a "transmission tune up" can you tell me if I need to change any filters & / or gaskets? - Finally, when I do the service, I want to get 100% of the fluid changed with that T-Tech fluid change machine that lot's of auto shops have.......can anybody provide me with the exact capacity of the transmission & how much fluid I will need? (in litres & gallons if possible). - What type of power steering fluid do I need? (the dealership has ordered an owners manual for me & will be in soon I hope)
  10. Thanks for getting back to me everyone! Hello again setviej are most Lexus owner's members of both clubs? lol One question about the automatic transmission fluid: - Although I have no problems using the Toyota type trans fluid, I prefer the synthetic (Mobil 1 synthetic ATF), why is it not a good idea go with the Mobil 1 and stick with the Toyota ATF? Won't the Mobil perform better in the long run? :o I will be putting a medium darkness tint on the vehicle (20% all around) and like gbhrps mentioned, if I do get pulled over, the front windows will be rolled down lol as the law states we can't use anything more than 35% on the two front windows. Geez, the K & N issue is a very touchy subject for both LC & LOC eh? :whistles: the dealer is replacing the air filter (Lexus part) before delivery as well as factory original Denso Iridium plugs so I guess I have a while to make up my moind on the air filter.
  11. Hi everyone, Where can I find the best web site(s) to purchase Lexus clothing, appreal & accessories online? &... I will be getting married in May 04' & will be going to Florida for my honeymoon (taking the Lexus of course & going as far south as the Keys). What would be the best Lexus dealer(s) to check out while I'm down there for the items mentioned above? Thanks!
  12. General ES 300 info/help: Hi everyone, Brand new to this website & I just purchased a 2001 ES 300 (I pick it up closer to the end of January 04') from a Lexus dealer in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The car has 72,000kms (43,000 miles), one owner, still under full factory warranty, factory adjustable suspension system, & I also purchased an extended "Lexus" warranty as well good till 180,000kms. I have all service records & the car is in fantastic condition. I have some technical questions about the vehicle. Any help is greatly appreciated. My questions are: - What type of "factory" spark plugs come with the car? IE: platinum or iridium? and who makes the spark plugs for Lexus? IE: NGK, Denso? Are they difficult to change? (I can't seem to get a straight answer to these questions). - What (if any) accessories can I put on the car to enhance the appearance, performance without spoiling the vehicles style? any & all suggestions please I'm personally thinking about tint, sunroof wind deflector (Lexus part) & a K&N air filter. I will be using Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic oil along with the Mobil 1 synthetic oil filter & Mobil 1 synthetic automatic transmission fluid. - What suggestion(s) for "all season" performance tires in the factory 205 60 16 size? (V rated) Toyo Proxes TPT, the Michelin MXV4 (originally came with the car) etc. - Any trouble spots / problems I should be aware of with this car so I can keep my eye out for them should they occur? - What type of engine coolant should I be using when it comes time to do an coolant flush? - What other parts should I replace when I do a "complete tune up" (I have not picked up the car as I said & do not have the owners manual at my disposal). - I assume that the "Lexus" oil filter for this car is the identical filter as in the Toyota Camry or would I be mistaken? And if I am, what exactly is the difference(s)? I prefer to use the Mobil 1 oil filters (M1-102) but I am just courious. - I usually replace the oil plug gasket every second or third oil change.......does the Lexus use a metal ring around the plug or a rubber type gasket? Am I changing this item on time or too early or late? I didn't see it even mentioned for the maintenance listings on any of the Lexus websites. - Does the car require a "lube" or just an oil & filter change? Looking forward to many years of reliable service & appreciate all of your comments! Very happy to be apart of the Lexus elete. Thanks! :)
