  1. replaced the coolant temp sensor and the o2 sensors not so long ago. the maf sensor doesnt work i know for a fact, but i was suspecting their coulda been a fuel problem because in the upper range rpm range after its warm it does this same action when its cold.
  2. well i just noticed something to make me lean even more towards a bent valve. it was about 45 here in jax this morning which is pretty damn cold for here, and when i started my car it was putt putt putt like it was missing fire or something. after the car warmed up it was fine but the colder it is outside the worse the noise it makes when it first starts.
  3. i couldnt tell you but if it was plugged in my car wouldnt go above 2500 rpm. i'm probably gonna tinker with it today but my car runs without a maf and it doesnt really idle low. although im sure its running rich due to it not having a sensor to make the proper air to fuel mixture. i just needed some power to get onto the expressway people drive like idiots in jax. my maf has been unplugged since august, so i'm going to look on ebay and buy another one.
  4. sounds to me like the head unit is bad. i highly doubt that the amplifier blew, or the speakers.
  5. you shoulda seen when the colts came to jax traffic traffic traffic. there was an accident on almost every damn corner and intersection and it had been storming a coulple of days. i've learned to drive very slow in the rain especially since my ls400 doesn't have traction control. my new bridgestone tires have much better traction in the rain then those crappy primewells. i think i'm gonna check my plugs again and see if they're black, then go from there. i've gotta get a new maf really bad.
  6. sounds great guys i'm gonna go buy myself a gasket and start taking her apart. i've also had this strange knock/misfire when the car first starts (cold start) if i try to take it over 2k rpm. i was thinkin maybe a valve could be bent. after she warms up it's not noticeable until about 5k rpm. if it is a bent valve, i'm willing to fix the car. it has 120k miles and everything else is great. oh btw the car ran great when i first had the maf unplugged, and now i was thinkin my plugs could be fouled out again due drivin it so long without one. i'm going to buy another one but have yet to find out if it was the harness to the maf or the maf itself. i blew my 3rd 12 and amp. i bought a new one yesterday and boy does it thump now. now i just need to get her running perfect.   7. my cars sometimes lunges when it shifts and it also has hesitation between 2-3k rpm. i took a look inside while my intake was off one day and it was black, both sides where black when opened the throttle. I'm thinkin about cleaning it myself.
  8. you're absolutely right steve i checked the fuse box and there wasnt even a fuse in there. i put in the fuse and the brake lights came on then i adjusted the stoplight switch and everything works perfect now. thanks for the help! i found a fuse underneath the carpet but it was blown, dont know how it jumped out but it's in there now.
  9. well i replaced my stoplight switch because i crawled underneath the dash and saw that the switch wasnt moving in and out like it should. well i havent had brake lights for a week now. i was looking for a fuse but i couldn't find one. any suggestions guys? i gotta go to school on monday. TIA oh by the way the tail lights come on when i turn the headlights on.
  10. my car does the same thing if it tries to go over 2k rpm when its cold. i was thinkin it was possibly the mounts, and also noticed when im going about 70 the shifter shakes.
  11. i agree about the egr pipe but i dont believe the tranny has to removed to get to it. they plugged up my egr pipe when i got s&s headers, and it was right there when i walked underneath the car while it was on the lift. but this was also my 94 you have a 96, it could be different.
  12. i'd say you need a new cold start valve. what is the healthy cold idle? my car usually idles at 1200 or 1400 when it first starts. but if i put it into gear it'll drop down to like 1000.
  13. Check to see if the timing jumped. My timing jumped once. it ran on 4 cylinders, and it sounded terrible.
  14. i got my tranny rebuilt for 1300. also got other work done, timing was off, spark plugs. make sure you go to a reputable person, and yes that stealership will rob you. they wanted 2200 dollars here in jax to fix my teloscopic and my MAF. I replaced the maf for 150, took 5 minutes. went on one of these threads and found somebody who fixed theres with a bottle cap. took it apart b/c the motor would still work if i pushed on it, it just wasnt catching b/c the gear wasnt making contact with the other one. i laughed after i fixed the 2 problems, and couldnt believe how much money i saved. the LOC is the best.
  15. if you have 94 which it says you do, its obd1. they dont have these readers at the autozone. go on lexls.com and look up on how to read the codes. it can be done with a piece of wire, i used speaker wire. its a very helpful website.
  16. guys ive noticed that my car shakes horribly if i punch it and am gettin up past 5k rpm. i also noticed while it was sitting still the engine shook some. i revved it to about 1.4k and noticed the engine is shaking. now do you think that the engine mounts/ tranny mounts could be causing my car to really shake at that high of an rpm? i do know the car does not idle as smooth and as it should since i first got it. im gonna clean the throttle body soon i noticed it was black when i took my intake off.
  17. don't let them talk ya down killer fatty, we all mess up at one time or another in our life. just let this be a lesson to you, move on and just be a really defensive driver. that's what my mom has told me since ive been driving, and believe you me, i almost got killed by some *BLEEP*er running a light at 100mph (and he was going a hundred it was like a flash) and they woulda smashed right into my driver side door and i probably wouldnt have lived. i smashed the brakes as i saw the car coming outta the corner of my eye, and was wishing right then and there (the only time i ever have) i was a police officer.
  18. the other damn day some girl was turning into the left hand lane and i was in the right and i was goin the speed limit. then she decides as soon as she gets in that lane to jerk the wheel over in my lane and my window is where her from bumper is, i was goin to get hit so i jumped up on the curb on the right side and smashed the hell outta the brakes. to give you a better visual basically half of my car was in the right hand lane and half of it in someones yard, one half of her car in the right hand lane and the other in the left. it was very scary and you can bet i gave her some dirty looks when i got to the stop light. im just glad none of that messed up my ride
  19. take it to autozone or a local autostore, and see if they have an obd reader. tell them the year of your car and im sure they'll have one. they should have one for the later model ls. they should come out and hook it up underneath your dash, to check for codes.
  20. i was told that valve was a power steering assist. i remember mine broke off so i had it plugged with a screw for a long time. i got a piece of brass pipe and hammered it into the hole. hooked the hose up and i could definitely tell a difference when i went to turn my wheel.
  21. for a long time my car would throw a code and it would go off, off and on. i tested it with a piece of wire and it still through the codes. i was able to figure out what was wrong with it, from there. i would try to take it to autozone and hook it up to the computer and just see what happens. that's strange though, it could be a shift solenoid.
  22. pump would definitely cause the steering to be rough. my pump was low one time and it was whining every time i turned a corner. i filled it up and its fine now, i dont have any leaks yet...(knock on wood). Get the pump fixed and she should be fine.
  23. wow can i relate. everytime we have a bad storm here (which happens almost everyday it seems like FL weather) theres tree limbs everywhere in the road. i get out and move them, and other people just drive around them. all it takes is a minute to get outta the car an move something that could cause somebody else to get in an accident, specially on the 2 lane roads.
  24. i have bridgestones and i dont know what kinda tires i had before, but they had absolutely no traction in the rain. the bridgestone potenza's are great in wet weather. another thing those *BLEEP*ty tires wore out in a year. im hoping these will last longer wont know for a while though.
  25. wow seems like this one problem has caused sooo much confusion. i know its weird, but i think it could be the wiring harness to the maf. the ones to my fan that cool the condenser dont even work. volt meter tested them and theres nothing coming out. i was thinkin if that one connector went bad then so would some others. oh by the way ive been drivin my car everyday and it seems to be fine. i dont really smell gas either.
