  1. My car is throwing code 25 air fuel lean. Last time this happened I replaced the o2 sensors and it fixed the problem. Upon getting my car back it ran ok but now it's throwing this code and I'm wondering if the o2 sensors are fouled out from running so rich? This won't affect the timing will it?I just got the timing belt water pump and all that good stuff change and id hate to have to do it again. Thanks in advance joel
  2. I have the same exact problem as well. It's been happening for a long time and like you my brake reservoir is full. A solution to this problem would be great!
  3. Car runs great!!!! I need to get new spark plugs because they're fouled out but i can tell a huuuuuge difference in power! the car doesn't stutter or miss a beat and the check engine light is off! I couldn't be happier! My mechanic only charged me 260 for labor to replace the pulleys water pump timing belt, and even the thermostat! Got the kit off of amazon for around 330! Not too bad!
  4. The timing was off one tooth on the passenger side cam gear! I'm getting the ride back tomorrow! I hope to be able to burn some rubber!
  5. I am sooo happy! I love my car! I just added a touch screen pioneer unit with gps and Bluetooth. It works fantastic and I feel like I've brought new technology into my old ride. Navigation in a 94 ls who woulda thought? Thanks for the reply!
  6. My mechanic finally figured out what was wrong with my car! The timing belt is original and tue tensioner is bad and I can tell by standing behind the car there is more exhaust flow on one side than the other and it switches up sometimes itll be the left sometimes it's the right. I can't believe the timing belt lasted 125k miles ordered the timing belt kit and it came with everything even a new thermostat and serpentine belt. I'm really excited that my car is finally going to run again. It jumped time a while back and that shouldve been a good indicator that the tensioner was bad.
  7. if you lock it at night and it's in a garage leave the alarm off and see if it makes a difference. If not go to your local autostore and buy an optima battery they're the best batteries created. I've had one in my car and the alternator is bad because my power steering pump has been leaking. i also have a heavy banging audio system in my car and my car still starts every time. Best battery created. you get what you pay for.
  8. I've got my old radio, you can have it for 30 plus whatever the shipping cost is. Came out of my 94 ls. It works fine. I had it in my car before i switched radios. Pioneer avic-u310 bt looks good as a double din and i don't get lost comment back if you're interested. I'd get it checked before you get it because it could possibly be a fuse or like they said a bad connection, but i don't see why the connection would mysteriously go bad.
  9. Well i went and got the cats put on at the local exhaust shop which was more trouble than it was worth.... absolutely no difference at all, no improvement check engine light still comes and goes and it still feels like i'm driving a ls400 with a civic motor. I'm taking it to that shop again for them to do a diagnosis on it. I won't say that was a waste of 600 dollars but at least the car is legal...
  10. Ordered new cats today! Right now i have two straight pipes which is loud and abnoxious and doesn't supply the motor with enough back pressure so it's lacking in the low end torque area. The x pipe is what i'm getting i'm not getting borlas because i just spent 400 dollars on new cats but i got some cherry bombs in storage and hopefully they'll be alot more quiet than the flo masters.
  11. i agree check the egr pipe and make sure its not cracked because that's the exhaust gas recirculation pipe. All the unburnt gas is recirculated back into the motor. It connects to the exhaust manifold, turn your car on and listen for a leak...
  12. thanks for the replies, well the gasket in between went bad and to change them they had to do quite a bit of work so i figured i'd give the headers a shot. the flanges are for a newer ls400's cats so i'm thinking if i get cats for a newer ls the flange will match up perfect. Thanks for the trick rdm should i use a washer or a nut to space the o2 sensors? I know the ls400 is no performance vehicle but the engine is legendary and after reading about the 1uzfe on lextreme i was quite interested. Of course exhaust and intake give you the slightest of an improvement they are the most marked up items on the modification market. Also in FL there's no emissions testing but if your car is a little too loud or you lay down on the gas they'll write you a fat ticket for excessive noise...
  13. well i added headers to the car a while back and the catalytic converters off the 94 didn't match up because the flange on the shorty's was different. I've always had an engine light on since then and performance problems but haven't really had the money to fix it. I finally was able to take it to the dealer and they said because the catalytic converters aren't present the post cat o2 sensors are getting a bad signal and causing the computer to mess up. I read somewhere else that only obdII has a warning light for the o2 sesnsors after the cats, so would this cause my car to throw another code since theres not one stored in the computer to post? the car runs great on a cold start or should i say the gas pedal is very touchy but after it warms up it seems its lost quite a bit of power.
  14. I want to know if removing the cats off a 94 ls400 will cause it to run poorly. I was told at the dealership that the car is getting a bad signal and the computer is confused. I'm really thinking of buying some new cats because i had to remove the old ones because the exhaust flange didn't match up with the cat.
  15. congrats i'm glad to hear it! saved yourself alottta money.
  16. i have a similar problem and ive had it for a while. my car has absolutely hardly any power, and is throwing one codes rpm no.2. the car was recently put back on time so i know it can't be the timing. ONE of the cam sensors was replaced, new fuel filter, spark plugs wires, O2 sensors in the exhaust manifold. I was being told because i removed the catalytic converters the car would run like crap because the O2 sensors after the cats. Is this true? the car is a 94, and i never had any problems until i put the headers and cat back exhaust system on. The other website told me that there was no check engine light for the O2 sensors after the cats so would this cause it to throw another code?
  17. The o2 sensors are in the exhaust manifold and there are 2 more after the catalytic converters.
  18. the reason why it's smoking is probably because the gaskets in the exhaust are melting because the temperature is getting so hot. my friends jeep had the installation manual for the gas tank inside of the gas tank! it blocked fuel and caused his car to run lean because it wasn't getting enough gas and his exhaust turned red and it smelled like burning rubber. Good ol' dealerships always have the best mechanics. needless to say when we dropped the gas tank and found that we were in complete disbelief. The coil is most definitely the problem, and that sounds like a bargain to me
  19. sounds you might have a few problems, but i hear a bad ignition switch can cause some of the issues with the car runnning and they key being removed. the tranny could've locked up b/c of a bad ignition switch but i you press on the brake and you still can't shift out of park, i'd check the stop light switch.
  20. make sure the switch for the shifter is in the correct position. does the shifter move without pushing down on the brake pedal?
  21. perhaps it's time to change the fuel filter
  22. Thanks for the link, going to change my oil soon so i may as well flush the power steering while i'm at it.
  23. I've bled brakes on many systems bikes, cars, etc, but where is the valve to release the air in the power steering system?
  24. I've never flushed a power steering system before, how does it work on the Ls?
  25. i've noticed after i've driven my car for a while the steering isn't as smooth and it starts to groan, and i've checked the ps fluid in the resevoir and there was bubbles all over the dipstick, hasn't leaked any ps fluid either, i was thinking it could be a hose...any ideas? TIA
