  1. Welcome to the LOC! Interesting details with this car ... some script above the driver's headlight, different tailpipes, fogs in the air dam (is that custom - looks European), blacked out L logos, whited out Lexus logo, co-ordinated cracked lights - I wonder what differences there are in the interior? Just curious, can you tell us about the history of this car?
  2. Firstly, welcome to the LOC! Don't think we've had a initial posting as intriguing as this one in some time. If the mileage is bonified and the car is all original and has never been cracked, I'll take it right now! I'll even give you a finder's/broker's fee! Btw, dc's just puling your leg. :P He really doesn't need another car. If you find any other similar LS deals, I'll take them too!
  3. Thanks for the links. I've had the polyurethane bushing for a while. I did get my tires balanced shortly after I posted which helped dramatically...Just a slight vibration 70+, which still kind of annoys me. I'll definitely try what the guy posted in your second link. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks, guys! Although you just got them, new tires can come with defects. In addition to the good suggestions mentioned, if you didn't like the service at the last shop, find a decent shop (referral would be best) and have them check that: tires are properly inflated none of your new tires are out of round all tire treads run true none of weights have fallen off the wheels no debris stuck to the wheel anywhere wheels are balanced wheels are properly overtorqued
  4. I agree, nice work Landar! You beat out Carl in posting a tutorial for the '98. Just curious, how were the bearings on the tensioner and idler? Btw, $1.98/hr prob isn't much different from a lot of us who like to do our own work. :P It's not the money but the satisfaction of knowing exactly how the job was done. ;)
  5. Man that really sucks! Hurts to look at the pics. Amazing how from the front and the other side, you wouldn't know anything happened. Hey, at least you got out alive. Hope you got the plate of the other car. You should post any pics of what she looked like in her prime ... nice way to remember her. But don't tell me you've already replaced her with a beemer!
  6. I was doing that. It was up to about 2500 rpms. Sounded higher because the cars against that wall. You never race the engine past 2500 rpm? You sound like billydpowell!!!! :D lol. nope. Never had it above 3000 and that was only on rare occasion. Maybe thats whats wrong with it. Seems OK now. I don't think you should get rid of this car. You'd miss all the excitement ... and so would we! ;)

  8. Here's a lively discussion with mburnickas, monarch, Toysrme, SK and others exchanging often heated opinions - a must read on the subject: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/lofiv...php/t25167.html
  9. Nothin' wrong with the house and not much wrong with the car! Congrats! I agree with both billy and blake. Bumper is easy if needed. Changing the plate will remind you of the great deal you just scooped!
  10. Somehow I missed this thread completely. Props to you Bob for your determined investigation/testing. Thanks for posting your final results!
  11. Play it full screen: http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Video-o...hing_719255.htm
  12. Hey Charles, Congrats on your new ezine! Haven't had a chance to really look at it but from scanning it, looks interesting. A suggestion, get in touch with LOC management to let them know about it. They may profile it as a news item on the splash page of this site. Good luck!

  14. Not sure about the NGK's, but the Denso's come pre-gapped. Also check your HT wires.
  15. It's a pita of a job, especially removing the rear bolts. Here's Lextreme's tutorial: http://www.lextreme.com/starter.html Here's a thread with some details on what to expect: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...tarter+problems
  16. Check your heater and defogger relays. Also check the 40A defogger circuit breaker and 60A heater fuseible link. Check that you're getting power. Never replace something unless you know it needs replacing!
  17. You can follow the maintenance schedule (always a good thing), however, as 90 mentions, oem/quality plugs can last much longer. Pulling a plug is also a good idea, but even after hundreds of thousands of miles they can be in great condition. Basically, if you have no issues with starting and fuel economy is to spec, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're not a diy and would like reassurance, an easy test you can ask your tech to do is to scope the ignition. Worn plugs that have widened gaps will cause an increase in the firing voltage. Fouled plugs will show lower firing voltage.
  18. I hear two sounds that are off. The squeaking immediately after startup and continuing can be a belt or pulley and can be easily determined. The second is a delayed "flutter" like sound. Easy to speculate but better to determine the source by locating it. A "mechanics stethoscope" would be usefull here.
  19. High mileage oil will make your valves a bit quieter by swelling the valve seals. Problem is it will also eventually damage them. I would use something like LC20 to condition them instead. Noise could be valves needing an adjustment or egr as have been mentioned, could also be a manifold gasket. Mileage shouldn't be the detemining factor in what you do here. Overall condition of the vehicle and service history are much more important.
  20. OO MY GOD I just found something to live for. That is the best link ever posted in this forum. Thank You. All my dreams have just become possible. :D Killer, if you liked that link, with a bit more scratch you could go for one of these (short video but you'll get the feel - check out the custom throttle bodies) Turn up the audio for this monster:
  21. Hey Billy, why don't you upload photos of the fine collection of cars you've owned in the past along with your current LS's to the Gallery section of your profile. I think you'd be approaching Leno's collection, although he still owns his. I dont know how to do that. I tried. deleated some added one and got lost. can you give me instructions? HERE IS A LINK TO PHOTOBUCKET http://s646.photobucket.com/albums/uu188/b...20have%20owned/ Ok try this, 1. go "Your Albums" 2. go to "edit" and check the "public" box to allow your images to be viewed 3. from "select operation", select "upload image" 4. on this page you can title the image if you want or just go down to "browse" and select the image you want to upload then click ok or open. 5. repeat for as many images as you like Don't know if you upload multiples or not. I think you can choose to track comments and or ratings, etc. Hope this helps/works. edit: Even better, the photobucket site is perfect. Just embed the link in with your signature. That's an incredible collection btw!
  22. What is the point of doing a "plus five" 20 inch wheel setup on a 90-92 gen 1 LS400 designed for 15 inch wheels? Are you trying to set some sort of record? It was not many years ago that a "plus three" 18 inch setup on a 90-92 LS400 was considered to be completely extreme and "over the top." But a "plus five"? Suggestions? Get reasonable size wheels and tires. But, it looks so cool. :P Seriously, 20" wheels on an LS400 look like pure !Removed!, especially when done the typical way of just bolting them on without any changes as it raises to car to near 4x4 status. Not to mention the rolling diameter effectively changes the gearing and the added weight makes the car a !Removed! to drive. A properly lowered car on correct size wheels (18" is fine) looks light years better, rides better, and can still accurately display the speed it's really going. I'll never understand the desire to make a car look like a Tonka toy. Some people are just looking for some ground clearance and don't wannabe ridin' a 4x4: :whistles:
  23. Or you could add $10k + and get one of these: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/club-lexus...e-to-order.html
