1. man buddy you've been having some rough luck with your LS lately i have to agree with Army, the first thing i thought of when you mentioned those symptons were clogged Cat or Cats...........its gotta be that........... we had the same problem on my brothers Tahoe, same symptions same everything, for the life of me i couldn't figure it out, we had to take it to the shop........... Diagnosis>>>Clogged Cat so if you were ever going to do an exhaust upgrade nows the time
2. hey thanks for all the feedback guys. i honestly can't wait seeing 3 wide 200 mph blowin by me.........honestley i just can't wait to hear those engines going by me, look out denny, i remember when you went to that richard petty driving thing and we talked about it, sounded like a blast. i just got a new Nikon Digital camera so i'll be taking lots of pics....hopefully i might get to meet a couple of the drivers or alteast get a good pic of em, with my pit pass, don't really know how that pit pass thing works, as far as if you can be by the drivers and cars or what, so i'll just have to see. hopefully i'll post some sweet pics when i get back
3. i've heard that one b/f, thats funny, makes me chuckle everytime.
4. i just redid my center leather console last weekend, i cleaned and lightly sanded the affected area, put a very small and thin amount of leather filler, and repainted it using a vinyl/leather spray application. let sit for 24 hours to cure and dry looks perfect, and saved my couple hundred bucks
5. is it smooth plastic with a clear coat (around shifter bezel, or stereo)..........or is it the plastic with dimples and such (not a smooth surface)? use meguirs scratch or plastic X by hand, that should clear up fine scratches on the smooth plastic actaully before i go any further with suggestions what part of plastic is it? do you have a pic?
6. always do your own oil changes..........and thats exactly why, those guys are incompentent (sp) idiots that work at those places if the maf was disconected and the car was started, you need to disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes and let it reset itself. so you did check the vaccum lines, check them again, that is a very common solution to those symptoms. they might have broke the return line that runs to the intake assembly. also when was the last time you had a tune-up? you could have a fouled plug or a crack ignition wire, get a tester and read the resistance of the wires. when u washed the engine, did you cover up all electrical? ie...... dist cap ect.......... i f not that probably is the problem, you might have shorted out something in there with the water. did you put a low pressure water hose on it? for future reference don't ever put a low pressure water hose on your engine bay, if you have to do that use a high pressure sprayer, and make sure you cover up all electrical.
7. well it really just depends on what you want to do. if you are tied to the car, (like most of us are) then give her a new heart and keep driving her another 100-200k. if not junk it, or part it out, and find a new girl, there are plenty of nice Ls's out there to be had.
8. just subscribe to carfax, then you can check the vin, and see for yourself generally we have no way of checking vin's around here, its just if someone has a monthly subscription, and offers the check for other members
9. maybe we ought to do our own reviews around here, a mod can make a list of tires in a sticky and then all that have had them can rate them and put individual reviews, based on experience on our actual Lexus cars. some tires handle way different from one car to the next, so we could have our own reveiws as other lexus owners can have some direct feedback from one lexus to another just a thought <_<
10. i have the Falken Ziex ZE 512's 225/60/16 had em on for about a month or so, love em so far. superb wet traction. more info on these tires as well as others can be found in our wheel and tire section of the forum if you would like to read up on most of our reviews and/or opinions on various tires.
11. yeah thats what throws the TB, when the water pump seizes/fails. its pretty rare for the belt to break on its own, they are extremely ridged. the Gen 1 LS400 is a non-interference engine, its a fact.........end of discussion.
12. yeah that would be a really clean setup for sure..........but there is no way in Helll i would pay that much money for that, lets get real. thanks for sharing and for the idea :D
13. sounds like the master cylinder has left the building.
14. take a look at the Performace sticky at the top of the LS page, i just listed several reputable Lexus online part stores, new and used. check em all out and compare prices the control arms are gonna be about 300 bucks. give or take the sites i listed have very good prices, i even listed sites that sell refurbished parts that are a lot cheaper. i suggest you get ur little list together, and do some looking on ALL of those sites, compare and go from there. some of the parts you will need are not on the list of parts on the site so you will need to call or email them and they will give you a quote, irontoad has most everything you will need as far as susupension components, again you just need to contact them, as they are not all listed on the site, they have very competitive prices, but like i said make yourself a list and call everyone of them, write down the prices and see whats cheaper, some have parts that are cheaper than others, and vice versa
15. yeah a co-worker of mine has one, he goes to bristol every year so he's letting me borrow it to use for Talladega. good call
16. oh i thought we were talkin Lexus family :whistles: anywho 25K for a muscle car?, Cobra for sure, or yep you knew this was coming Blake, SS CAMARO
17. man matt your car is bad !Removed! boy!!!!!!!!!! thats one sharp GS4!
18. does your truck have HID setup? or just the Halogen bulb, and you just want a replacement bulb?
19. Tokico makes a strut package for the LS, its relatively cheap as well. it offers a 1" drop you will lose some of the "Floaty" feel of the car. the feel will be more ridged, and the car will handle more firmly then the OE setup.
20. look no further than 98+ GS400, pearl white or black with chrome OE wheels.....get back
21. i agree mostly with everyone else, besides i WOULD avoid a car with air suspension, its just a pain in the !Removed! to fix and probably more expensive to fix then the car is worth, and to be honest its a miracle it still works with that mileage..... the serp belt is very easy to change out, even for a novice, the belt diagram is on the top of the under hood, all you need to do is loosen the tensioner take off, put on and tighten it back up, its about a 15 minute job. timing belt is a serious job to do, even for pro it takes a long time to do, i personally wouldn't try DIY, although many have, with success, i think VMF did it, and we have a tutorial i beleive, if you want try it. if you are looking for a cheap high mileage luxury car, that is dependable, fast, and comfy, the LS IMO is the absolutely the best car to choose with those credentials. again, if properly maintaned that engine will go 400K no prob. i see it time and time again.
22. good, glad you got her fixed......... happy we could help
23. leaky stearing rack is a pretty common problem on high mileage LS's if its not dripping and doesn't show signs of failure, for now i wouldn't worry about it, unless you just want to go ahead and knock it out for preventative maintence and failure reasons.......now over time if it gets worse than obviosly you need to get it taken care of, i think mine leaks just a tad bit, it has a tiny damp spot on the boot (about quarter size every 5K miles), but its been like that for years and has never gotten any worse so i don't worry bout it. the rear main seals generally speaking are really not overall that common of a problem with the Lexus V8's, although i have heard of it a few times on Ls's and more common on SC's (don't know why).... and its pretty expensive to fix, if i recall....... my buddy has a serious main seal leak on his 92 SC4, and got a quote that was rediculous, if i recall, and asked me if i could fix it, as i have fixed a lot of engine related issuses on his car in the past, as it is up over 200K, but that one i didin't even want to mess with. it looked to be a very tough project, probably not someting i could do, or even want to try on someone else's car. the solenoid cleaning is posted in the tutorials section, and is very easy to do. about the nipple and hose, those things get very brittle over time and break off really easily no biggie, just reconnect it if there is any nipple left, and remove the broken part from the hose, and you can either JB weld it back on (from the outside), or use electrical tape, or a small clamp and ur in business, as long as its connected in any way, it will work just fine, (i broke mine too, , a couple of years ago and did the above to fix it, never had a problem
24. well I don't have a definate answer, but i believe you are on the right track, i bet you got some debris sucked up in your fuel system. and could have damage and or clogged the following; fuel pump fuel filter injectors those are the Major things i would personally check or have checked out, it has almost certainly IMO got to be one of those.
