  1. i had this done already:) http://lextreme.com/timing.htm
  2. i had a fully loaded 3.5 chrysler concorde 1993 its a really nice powerfull car but tranny died on me and i also had to repace the climate control panel few times, otherwqise car is awesome!!! 3.5 v6 deleived 220 hp and it can compete with my LS on the highway. i sold it to my friend and car has 160k miles now and still going strong:)
  3. you DO have to replace the fuel filter every 30k miles, otherwise the car will loose power and eat extra gas. the location of the fuel filter makes it really hard to access and requires a lift i recommend just askin a shop to do it, let them soak in gas and fumes. i paif 20$ for replacement when i got to the shop with my filter and it took them 20 mins to replace and the guy was soakin in gas! some of it got even into his eyes! my advice, dont do it urself
  4. since the engine you want to put is I6 i dont think LS mounts will fit the new engine perfectly. you can get 1uzfe for like 300-500$ and have it replaced for another 300-500$ also this I6 engine utilizes completely different set of electronic devises and you will have problems adjusting power steering system. i also give u 95% that the tranny will not fit to the new engine and you will ahve to get ECM for engine and for the abs, traction etc repolaced and everything rewired this whole project is doable but it will cost you far more than this LS, New v8 and that i6 engine that u got. i estimate few month of work and around 6-9k spent.
  5. 150$ for an oil change sounds like a ripoff, i spendtotal of 35$ and this is with synthetic old and OEM filter!. Sterring pump failing on a 96 LS iwith such low mileage is highly unlikable, did you see that yourself or dealer told you that there is a problem? sound like they jsut wanted to get more $ from you btew i'm selling mine for 9k now since i want to upgrade to 2000 LS
  6. termostat has nothing to do with this, its either the tem sensor inside the cabin or the software problems. when temperature is set to hot does it still blows cold air? if it does does it blow cold air only from the dash openenings or from the openings around your feet as well?
  7. as an owner of the 1996 LS 1ith 140k miles i can tell u that the maintanence cost is LOW!!! keep the car! it doesnt brake as often as other cars and even when it is, you search wisely or do some small repairs yourself it would be cheaper that a nissan maxima of the same year! which will require much more maintance
  8. well local lexus cars are cpo and this is different story,, dealers get those cars really cheap and make $ on difference, i drive by a local lexus dealer every day and i saw 2 LS , i went in and turned out they are 99 and 00 cars 99 has 51k miles and was retailed for 24 while the 00 had 73k miles and was for sale for "only"21k. that was 2 month ago and both cars are still there. i'm lookin for a 98-2000 ls and i saw a few at the acuctions and they cost for 17k with 80-90k 99 ls with 27k miles would not go for more than 20-22k market is low especially in winter
  9. i will buy that car for 18k if you are willing to let it go for that money. my dad is looking for an LS and i will talk to him in next few days and i will let you know for sure.
  10. first of all this ilist is far from being full and second of all i built my own boxes this way i select the best components from different brands if you want i can recommend you what parts to buy and can tell what kind of setup i got now. blake what kind of probs you got with 8600? i got this box on sale from dell like 2 years ago for my parents and its on most of the time and i didnt have a single problem with it.
  11. looks like u missed timing when you were putting it back together check this document that i put together when i was changing mine http://lextreme.com/timing.htm
  12. snowed really bad here in LI today, it took me 2 hours to get from my parents house to my house. i try not to drive LS during snow season, it just doesnt behave well in the snow, and today the road was not cleaned at all and legend performed much much much better then LS during turns and braking. LS was not built for the snow driving and i think none of the rwd lexus cars were.
  13. if it goes off suddenly without any cracking or any other sounds and there is no hissing from the speakrs it means the the right channel in your amp is having problems, looks like when it worms up your right channel cuts off, this might be due to the output transisotrs overheating due to their age, or it might be loss of contact somewhere in that area due to the thermal expansion.
  14. post it to the gallery, i would like to take a look at em as well. once u post em, post the link here
  15. there is frame damage, definately total, not worht spending 5- 6k fixin it
  16. usually powering off the car by unpluggin the batter resets evertyhing including the alarm, try to disconnect the terminal again, wait for 90 secs and plug it back on, usually all basic alarms would arm themselves at that moment and start "screaming", unlock the car with the remote and try to start.
  17. you dont have rpm wire connected prolly this is why it constantly tries to start the engine constantly. alarm brain checks for rpms above 300 and if its not gettin the signal about the rpm it will try to start the engine again. i have compustar alarm for 3 years and i never had a bit of problem with it
  18. there is a big possibility that ur ecu might be fried as well but you should check all the fuses in the engine compartment first. ls400 has lots of electronics so this spike might be fatal to a lot of things. but first things firsty check all the fuses.
  19. repair manual advices to do the tune up (spark plugs, wires) every 60k and do the timing belt/idlers/waterpump replacement every 90k. but you can usually push timing belt 15-20k more. make sure you dont have any whining noises around 800-1000 rpm as the are the signal that bearings your pulleys are starting to fail. if any of the bearsing in the pulley or wp go bad they will fry your belt and you will have to tow the car which might add up a lot of $ to the repair cost. so my advice, do it!
  20. make sure the speakers are same hight and have same resistance, otherwise its ok to get an anftermarked speakers.
  21. so why do think that happend? design flaw or just a malfunction? if its below the freezing point of water i dont think it should be happening. is there a link to the full article?
  22. usually when its below 32 its not that humid that u can get fog on my windshield:) or at least i never got any in the lex, may b coz i remote start it like 20 mins b4 i go out:)
