  1. Who says you can't name shops???? I have in the past and I have been given names in the past..... No one said anything to me about the name thing...? Were is this coming from. I my know a shop in LA, I was traveling though the valley and needed my front seat fixed. Shop seemed good. Guy was nice. Price seemed fair. Lets resolve the name thing and I'll find the name of the shop. It is on Ventura Blvd., I think in Woodland Hills. Maybe by Corbin. On the north side of the street. :whistles:
  2. Car is still o.k. and has not done it again. When it did happen I I flipped O/D on and off severail times, back and forth. Same with the economy swicth. It was no help. I also treid putting the car into "2" from drive. No help. But it all when away by doing a complet restart. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I know a bad coil can give the actionn I was getting, but a restart would not have helped. It could also have been a bad fuel pump, but again, a restart would not have helped. I did the restart going doen hill at about 60 mph. Put the car in "N" turned it off (being carefull not to lock the streeing wheel, checked the tach to see that egine was not turning, turned key back on and bumped the starter to get engine going. Put back into drive, and all has been o.k. ...so fare
  3. If it was vapor lock, then why would restarting the car (without stopping) fix it????
  4. Car still running fine... in 24 hours I hit the road for a 600 mile drive. We will see????
  5. To 1st responce. I do not think it is the filter. The car would rev fine when out of gear. Only acting like out of gas when in gear at low speed. Car ran fine at high end (over 50 mph). Also started after car was stoped. On second responce. I had no check eng. or other lights on. Good thing is car is still running fine....... I have to make another long haul this coming week. We will see.
  6. I was 200 miles into a long drive. Car temp was good. Under the half way mark. With about 1/2 talk of gas left. Car had been running great with cruise controll set at 85. I stopped at a rest stop for about 5 Min. When i took to the road car ran like sh*&^. Nothing at low speed. Just like it was running out of gas. If I put car in N the engine reved fine. Put back in drive. Would act like not getting gas. Finailly hit 50 mph and car ran great got back up to 85. Then hit a slow zone and had to go to 40 mph. again car ran like was not geting gas till I hit 50 or more. I tried turning OD on and off... no help. Going down hill. I put the car in N and turned it off, and restarted the car. Put back in drive. Car has been o.k. for two days now. What happened?????????????? I checked under the hood. No loose conections, all vacum lines o.k.... all conectors o.k. oil ok. trany fliud o.k.?????? What happened?????? The only thing I can think of is the "computer" was messed up, and restarting it reset it????
  7. Thanks. I had it right. Remove the 4 screws and pull out the black plastric cover. Boy it was really stuck in there. Had to make a small pry bar with a screw driver!
  8. I know this has been covered but after playing with "search" for an hour. I'm posting this. On a 91 LS 400 how do you replace the license plate lights? Both of mine are out. I undid the screws :chairshot: on the outside, but nothing comes loose. Can't find an opening on the inside of trunk. Whats is the trick?
  9. I have a 91 LS400 with about 120,000 Miles on it. Time to replace the struts. Front and rear. Still debating in my mind if I'll go with KYB lifetime at about $250.00 for all fout, or OEM at about $200.00 for all four. Locale guy will do the wrok with a new alinmemt for $250.00. But what I need help om is the bushings??? The ones I have are in O.K. shap, but should I just go ahead and put in new ones at this time???
  10. I have a 91 LS 400 without the air suspension. I have found all four struts on Ebay for inder 250.00 (KYB brand). A locale shop here in my small town will do the instale for $250.00 for all four with an alaiment.
  11. Anyone know about using "freeze 12" or R-22, instead of R12 in a 91 Lexus? I have seen the Freeze 12 and R-22 on Ebay. Ads say you can use it as a replacment for r12. Anyone know the real information on this? Does it work. Can this be mixed with R12 or 134A, or does the system have to be filled with Freeze 12 only or r22 only? Thanks for the info.
  12. Talked to Lexus P.R. on Firday. They can do no more though me. They will not state that the system can be worked around, or the car moved without a key. But they can not explain why the Hwy Loss inst shows such a high thieft rate. More going on then they will say. My next step if you want me to, is trying to talk to the P.D. department investagating the thieft, and to try talking to the FBI to see if they know anything on cars with "Key Codes" being taken.
  13. There are other post on this. What you are doing is WRONG. You just dumped your r-12 into the air for no reason! Other then to screw up the planet!... If you want the recharge to work you will need to have a shop vacum down the system. If you had some old r-12 left in the system ou may have found someone to do it for free as they can sell the r-12 they pull out. Also do not replace r12 with 134a in the same amount. About 80% of a charge with 134a works as good as a full charge if r12. If you do a "full" charge of 134a the system will act like it is over charged and not cool as well. Your not a nice person, so I'm not going to tell you the other stuff you need to know. Hay, when you do your oil changes do you put the old oil in the storm drain!
  14. Most likly you did what I did. You took out your Idle contole valve. To check it. With the egine running pull the large rubber hose that runs from it to the Air Intake off at the air intake. You should feel a strong suction on the hose. If not the valve is stuck closed. If you have sucktion the valve is stuck in an open position. Work your finger over the hose opening slowly cutting off the air. You should be able to get the engine to go back to 600 to 700 rpm. If you cut off to much air the engine will die. If you are able to gt the engine runing right by cutting off the air, or there is no secktion you need a new valve. They can not be fixed or cleaned. Water gets inside the micro motor and that is it. To try to find a used one, look for a to manafold cover with the idle control valve attached. It will run you under $200.00. This is what I did. No one sells the valve used that I could find. They sell it as part of the manafold.
  15. Most cars with injectors are not to be run under about a Quarter of a tank per most of the makers. That said I have a Lexus and a Saab both with injectors. I have run them dry (one time) to find out just how much gas they hold. Saab 16.4 Gal, 91 LS 400 22.3 Gal. With no harm done, but I would not do this over and over. As for when do I fill up. When on a road trip I start looking when I'm down to about 5 gal left. This gives me about 100 miles to find a gas station (unless I know I will be driving though a long streatch of road with no gas or only Expensive gas). When at home I never go below 1/2 a tank. It's that safty thing. If there is an emergancy I can hit the road and not have to find a gas station. But this is me. If you want to run your car down to 1 gal eveytime nothinmg says you can't.
  16. Then you need to be told. STOP YELLING AT FOLKS. When you use all caps it is the same as yelling. It is not nice. Turn your Cap key off.
  17. Look I live in Bullhead City Az, It gets to 130% in the shade in July! I have 3 cars. 84 Saab, 89 Bronco, and 91 LS 400. Ford and Saab have been conveted over to 134A. If and when the LS needs Freon, it to will be conveted. Saab has over 30,000 miles running the AC with 134A! Did both cars myself. Kit and coolant was under $50.00. Is easy DIY but you must first have all leaks fixed!, then have system completly vacumed. Then ad the new 134A. Do not replace one for one. If you replace R12 with the same amount of 134A, system will be over filled and not work as well. With 134A you need about 20% less. So use a hose with a gadge on it, and refill by the gadge!. Both my Saab and Truck, cool just as good with 134A as they did with r-12. But that is becouse I did it right! Also no long term harm to system if you do it right. Use a kit that comes with the 134A that already has the oil in it. Folks mess up and do not put in the stuff with the oil, then the system will not last.
  18. I talked with Lexus pr toay and faxed them the copy of p.d. report. They to look into getting a letter that in some cases the car can be taken without the key. They did not seem happy about the P.D report stating witout the key the car is "immobolized". Should have something within a week.
  19. All of your "sound" system electroncs should be conected though the filter. And it is a easy hook up. One to ground one to positive and one to eqipment. All color coded and with instructions.
  20. All of the power lines to your sound system should be run though a choke to keep out engine noise. Also known as a steroe noise filter. This includes your amps. Try something like a the ones made by American international / Pacific industries in Camarillo Ca. They call thiers the Xterminator noise filter. You want one that filters the power line not a cheeper deal that filters the speaker or amp conections. Crutchfields has them. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vTWvMkNPgk1/c...wm=fp&I=003S25A
  21. I did a post some time back on the LS 400 seats and how they hurt my butt. look for it.
  22. It could also be the starter going bad. Sometimes before a starter goes out completly it will only turn when you give it the extra power of a jump start. When your car will not start will the radio and head lights come on?
  23. I had something like this with a new car about 15 yaers ago. I signed the contract, gave them a check, and they went to pick up the car for me on dealer trade. The next day I went to pick up the car. It was parked with the pasanger side very tight against a block wall. I asked them to pull the car out. I got a song and dance. I looked down the pasanger side. The car had been creamed. Seemed it got hit on the drive over frpom the other dealer. Told them to bad. Really wanted that car. But to bad, they damadged it. So, not the car I agreed to. They told me no it was my car, but they would fix it for free. I told them I needed to use the rest room. On coming back from the head I asked to make a call on a speaker phone to a freind with them listaning. I called my friend, the phone was answered "Law office thank you for calling"... I asked for jim and told them it was mike calling. Jim came on the phone. We BS'ed like friends for a few then then I told him about the car and that we were on speaker phone. He asked the dealer if the car was damadged after I agreed to bu it. They said yes. My friend told them, come on guys you know the law, undo the deal or you are going to be buying this guy a fleet of new cars. I got my money back right then and there. Oh, and that law office I called. Well when I was in the head I called a freind, told him what was going on and he agreed to answer his phone for the next few rings as "Law Office" and play the part. Hay, who said the customer has to nicer then the dealer B)
  24. The belts suck. Mine was replaced no charge at 60,000 on my 91 ls400 but 40,000 miles later belt does not retract again. Called dealer and got the story of we replaced it once and you have an old car. So I will have to pay, but I know it will go out again. I bet if we do a poll we will find this is something a lot of LS owners are dealing with.
  25. I will send you another Email with my contact info. Lexus PR is getting me info on if these cars can be taken without they keys and so on. The Highway Loss Data Instittute sent me loss data. It is only a small sampling of the real theft data on cars. If they show none stolen it does not mean none were taken, just thatr they do not have the data on it. This is what they show: (The number after the model number is the number of cars stolen) 1998 to 2000 model years ES 300 95 taken LS 400 176 taken ( This gets the car a Worse then average theft rating) 96 to 98 Model years ES 300 156 (Worse then average) LS 400 481 (Substantially worse then average) 93 to 95 model years ES 300 159 (Worse then average) LS400 467 (Much Worse then average) So, either a lot of Lexus owners are stealing thier own cars or these cars have a higher then "Normal" thift rate, and can be taken.
