  1. I would like the front door switch covers. Both left and right. My switches and everythig work fine, but the wood trim part fell of. It would be nice to replace it. Let me know what you want. I can paypal you. Send me a PM or email me at mike@mybuddymike.com If the guy asking for the streeing whell paases on it, let me know, I'm looking for a gray one on good shape. Soory to hear that time is up on yor car and it's getting parted out, but it will live on so to say in others...
  2. What do you think of the sites new look. I like the clean look of the first page, but I miss seeing the most resent posts from all the groups
  3. The K&N will help. But don't forget to keep it clean
  4. I have a 91 ls also, and slow it's not, and it revs to the red line anytime I ask it to. I fnd on the open road when I hit it to pase someone going 70, I hit over a hundred without trying... I would start with a good turn up. You know, plugs wires coils, caps, etc. Also a goo TB cleaning. New air filter... Also don't over look the posability of a cloged cat. A muffler shop can check you back pershure for less then $30.00 Also check your compersion on all 8 cyl. I would also put some B12 Chemtool or Sea Foam in your next tank of gas or two.
  5. Also if you can go without the car. Talk to a body shop about cutting a deal with them. For cutting the price, you let them work on the car on slow days. Takes a lot longer to get fixed, but you save money and the shop has work for thier guys to do, on those slow days.
  6. I don't know if this guy is being straight with you or not, or if all your parts really needed replacement or if you could have done less. But if this guy is so good, why the problems with the power steering after he did the work. I have used a shop in the Valley two times when in Los Angeles. They seem honist and OK. Rates are standard. But if you want to check out a diferant shop, you may want to see what they have to say and how you feel about them. It was Steve's Independant, but the are now going by Automotive Instincts, 818-883-4172, 19831 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills. The fixed my seat when a screw came loose and jamed the track. The spent about two hours taking it apart, tighting everything and putting it back togaether. No parts needed. I also just used them to replace my Fuel Filter when my car started stalling etc., and I was in LA. The charged about 115.00 for parts (OEM) and labor. They did not try to upsell. I went in complaning about the car acting up, and stated I thought it was fuel filter. They inspected car. Stated it could be filter or other things, but it made sence to start with filter and see if that's it as filter is over due for change, and among the cheeper items to try. I'm sure there are other great shops in the area, and cheeper. But after two trips over a yr plus, I feel OK with these guys. Have you tried posting and asking for recomendations to a shop near you?
  7. First pump main baering siezed up. Still waiting on Auto Zone to get back to me. I bought it there. It was installed by my regular shop. I had no issues after first pump was installed. Everything fine till main bearing siezed. Secound pump is working fine. Issues are from sloppy work, or guy working on the car being an . I am a "student" of human nature so to say. On someone taking the remote apart just to be a , is small. But a poorly paid guy at PeP Boys taking it apart, just to take it apart... Then loosing parts... Very likly. Not done to be nasty... Done becouse they are an idiot. You know like someone that would put PS fluid into a unit marked DEXIII...... And haveing orked on it and having sen the bright red fluid in the system, but still top it off with clear PS fluid.... Poor sloppy work, from a person that does not care. Like someone that would break a fitting on a customers car and not tell the customer... But just plug vacum lines and say nothing.....
  8. I forgot to tell you. My remote key was also up. The screw is missing, also the battery and the little rubber botton. Without the button remote can not be used. And you can't buy a "button. Do not think this was done intenstionally. Just real slopy work with no pride of workmanship. The closist Pep Boys to me is 100 miles away. Same with a Lexus dealer. As such I would be happy to let them send someone to look at the car. I have called the manager of the store. Did not get into it with him as I knew it was a lost cuase when he told me that a lexus dealer told them to use PS fluid. The cap states DEXIII right on it! Only a dumb would think it's OK to put PS fluid in without talking to the cars owner about if it has DexII or what in it??? More likly then not I'm going to ask for the $600.00 I paid them back. I have left two voice mails at corp. I have spent 20 min trying to talk with them. Just getting run around so fair. This was done in Calif so I can file a complent with the auto repair folks.
  9. I had a brand new P/S Pump fail on my when driving though the Mohave. The only place I could find to work on the car was a Pep Boys. I paid them to replace the pump, and replace the belt. I also told them to let me know if anything eles needed attention. Got the car back in 3 days. Drove straight home with it. On getting home found out : Car was blowing smoke on start up (never did this before). P/S system now had a mix of P/S fluid and DEXIII. (they toped of with P/S fluid). One vacum line from P/S Pump going to conector on Air Intake was pluged, and fitting was broken off Intake houseing. The othe vacum line was conected. But hoses at the air valve were cross conected. Air Valve was damadged and fluid ws getting sucked up the crossed conected vacum line. I need to replace the air intake due to the broken fiting cost about $230.00 (dealer item). I made a temp. fix with some hose and JB weld. I have flushed and refilled the P/S system with DexIII I have disconected both vacum lines from the P/S system and need to replace the valve. About $80.00 for the part and 1 hour of time. I had to completly clean the air intake system and throutail body, along with the mass Air Flow Sensor, to get the Power Steering fluid out of the intake system. I also used B12 Chem Tool in the gas tank and used engine vacum to chem tool the manafold. Now the car no longer smokes at stat up. There was a good amount of P/S fluid all over the intake system. Now I need to tell Pep Boys what I want from them. I'm not happy. What would you guys expect from Pep Boys?
  10. Cal the company that makes the Alarm. Your dealer should have done this. If there is a way to make it work the company that made it will know. Address : 1 Viper Way, Vista, CA 92081 Phone : 1-800-876-0800, 1-760-598-6200 Fax : 1-760-598-6400
  11. You're playing it very conservative - there's nothing wrong with that. But in many parts of the country which have reasonably soft water, tap water is just fine - after being mixed with good quality antifreeze. ← Like I said in my town.... I'll bet we have some of the nastiest water round the US The locale water companies go nuts. The pumps they use are rated at a 5 to 7 yr life. Our water kills them in 1 to 2 yrs. In the summer the ground water is so hot, no one ever turns thier hot water on, becouse the cold water comes out at over 100 deg. ← I sure hope your town has some other redeeming characteristics. What you've described so far doesn't sound like much fun. ← Lets see we have folks that know when and how to take it off line.... Just kidding... We have the colorado river for boating and fishing. Lake Mohave same thing. Great place for off roading, hiking, rock honding... Lots of open road with no traffic. In fact a 10 min jam up is a big event here.. We have Laughline 10 min by boat, or 20 by car. Los Vegas is an hour and a half. Affourdable housing. No snow.. Nice folks.. Good city leaders that are open to your advise. Yes, I can walk up and just talk to the chief of police or the mayor. Or my county representative, and so on. But I like it. I'm sure for others it would be the pits... But I'll take having to treat the crappy water in exchange for the saftey, no trafic, and lots of nice folks.
  12. As stated do not know if ever changed but if it was done it was like 60,000 miles ago. I went into an independant shop on Ventrua blvd in Woodland kills, paid about 120.00 for them to look at car and put a new filter in. They found nothing wrong with car and could only guess at what it may be. Had filter changed as was way over due. Drove fron Los Angeles to Yuma Az. No trouble. Car is at about same gas level as when it acted up before. We will see. But in am, i'm filling tank and going home (another 200 miles). Time will tell. But in any event car was due for the filter

  14. I have used Interstate batteries for years, like 15+ years. I will no longer deal with this company. One of there dealers tried to rip me off, and companing to interstate was a wast of time. Mine was no longer holding a charge. Went to a interstate dealer to get it replaced (under warenty). Guy siad need to test it first. Then siad, with you key off something is still pulling power from the battery, we need to find and fix that first at 100.00 per hour to look. I asked the guy are you just showing that there is voltadge flow, or are some real amps being pulled. He said, something is pulling voltdge, but no way to seee how much power is being pulled. And that this "short" is killing battery and could start a car fire! I told him that allmost all cars these days pull power with the key off. The car clock, stereo, security system, and cpu, need to have power even with the car turned off. And without seeing "how much" power is being pulled, there is no way to know if it is out of the norm. Guy told me I was uninformed and my car was a fire waiting to happen. I reported this to interstate. Got nothing from them. I bought a new battery someplace else. Car is fine and no fire yet....... But it has only been about 1 year. I know a bad dealer does not reflect on a company, but they did nothing when I complained. Zip, zero, nada..... So, if you ask me they can go
  15. last tune up was about 15 to 16 months ago. New wires and plugs at that time (EOM Parts). Caps and coils were O.K. It has been no more then 25,000 to 30,000 miles, so not yet due for a tune up... But that does not mean something desided to stop working. I it is a tune up thing, as car was just not running it would piont to caps/coils, but as the car has two, I would think it would just iether run ruff as could be, or not run at all, and right now it is back to running fine. So it is a come and go issue....
  16. Holly my tap water is about 15 to 18 on the scale!!!! Just having some fun with you. I would never put the that comes out of the tap in my town, into my car. Infact I will not even wash my car with it. But I see folks allover town putting into thier cars! Locale radeator shop keeps busy. I use a softer system and revers ro system. But to play it safe I use a good premix solution.
  17. Gee i must have an american made 91 ls 400, my gen went out at 130,000 miles and could not be rebuilt. :D I have 91 so I don't spend to much time on do I or don't replace the belt. But if it would kill my engine, I would not push it past factory specs. Just way to costly if you loose the bet.
  18. Jap!!!!!! Please do not use that word. It is extermly nasty, and comes from WWII.
  19. Flat spots will a tire. My wallet has taken that hit over the years. Even on small tires. If the tires can not be balanced on a high speed balancer it is a flat spot. A good tire shop will be able to test for you, If you are lucky and have enough tread left, you may find a tire shop that can shave the tire back to round. You loose tread life like crazy, but it is better then just thowing the tire out.
  20. I just got into LA, Ca., today, a nice 300 mile drive. Car ran fine. When I was almost to were I was going, and travelling at about 20 mph, car starting acting like it had either no gas or spark. Rpm droped car would not respond to gas pedial. Pulled over and car died. Restarted and just idled. Idle speed was all over the place 1,500 rpm to 300 rpm. Again car did not want to repond to gas pedial. If I pumped it, nothing really happened other then car kept stumbling and strugling to stay running. I got a small back fire. Turned car off again, restarted. No help. I crawlled the last 2 blocks to my meeting. I started trip with almost a full tank of gas. I had put some gas additive into this tank of gas just by chance (B12 Chemtool). So I knew it was not water in fuel. Tank was now down to 1/4 tank. Engine temp was below 1/2 mark. No warning lights were coming on. Car has never done this. I have read about newer LS 400 that have the habit of dying after a long drive due to the computer, but I never heard of it happening on a 91, so I'm thinking it is not that. Just to try it. I disconected the battery before going into meeting. 4 hours later I came out to car and hooked up battery. Car started and ran fine. Drove 3 miles and put 19 gallions in my tank (holds 22). Drove another 2 miles to hotel. Car running fine. Now was it just a one time thing??? Fuel filter or pump, or ignition???? I do not know if filter has ever been changed. If so it was at 60,000 miles. Car now at 130,000 miles. I'm thinking before I leave LA on Saterday find a shop and put fuel filter in. Your thoughts on this???
  21. Thank you for letting your Lexus Dealer do the work for you. I'm the guy that sells them the 'Free" Coffe, Coke, Hot Chocolet, Donuts, etc., and if it wasn't for good folks like you paying "full pop", and piging out on the freebee's, I would have to get a real job! Just kidding, I'm one of those guys that would let my indy guy do it for 400 or 500, and buy my own stuff
  22. The new stuff has more cleaning power then the old stuff. Yes it can kick some stuff loose and start to dirty up the filter screen. And this will effect steering feel. I know becouse I had it happen to me. Clean the screen, it should go back to how it was.
  23. Did you set the air persure when the tires are hot or cold. If you drove on them and then put the air in (hot), and checked it the next day cold... Bingo, could account for the 5lbs. Sorry about the crazy person. Know what it like. I have had two of them in the past. One finaly called the cops on me, then whent off on the cop and went to jail. The other set her place on fire when she empted her hot BBQ into her plastic trash can. Her landlord then tosed her out of the place. Now I live in a small town with great folks all around... But no lexus dealers around for 100 miles..... Small price to pay for no crazy folks...
  24. I would go with SK's advice. Let us know what the dealer tells you. I would also ask as you bought a used Mass Air Flow ... Did you clean it before you put it in? It takes only a few minuts to get it off to clean it and a few bucks worth of spray cleaner. I would also disconect the battery for 5 to 10 min, after cleaning it or just disconetc before cleaning. This will resety the computer. Can't hurt.
  25. I had the same thing with my truck. Even if I jumped it to another car. Engine cranked very slow, then sped up just enough to start. Turned out it was the starter going bad. Put new starter in. That did the trick. Had nothing to do with Battery, Charging, or wires. Just a starter going bad.
