  1. Here ya go. I only got to page 2 of my search but this should be substantial evidence for you. btw there is probably others in the pinned "tell us about your cars mods or problems". http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=25605&hl=smoke http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=24596&hl=smoke http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=23547&hl=smoke http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=22754&hl=smoke http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...topic=22151&hl= http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...topic=15748&hl=
  2. Now I have heard more than enough people complain about having white/blue smoke come from the exhaust pipes of there SC400's. Now people on this site have been giving resonable but FALSE solutions to the problem. I would like to emphasize that this is NOT an uncommon problem, it is verry common as this should be pinned. The solution to the problem is FUEL INJECTOR(S). They are permanently stuck open which results in the car running to rich, giving off white smoke and you will also possibly notice another trait: The car shakes horribly. This is a horrible horrible catastophy that I would not wish anyone to experience. But it is happening ALOT. Just read the forum. Now with all of that said, the price is about 1200 to replace all 8. Not bad, considering the other alternative(s) 1. Bad valve guides (2000-5000) or engine swap. 2. Piston rings (2000-5000) or engine swap 3. Oil mixing with coolant (engine swap) All of these things usually = sell car for most. I would NOT it has been sitting in my garage for 1 year, in and out of 5 repair shops which told me to sell the car (that I just bought). Please pin this it will save these poor souls alot of greif! Just Pin it. I mean the silly, useless "What year lexus do you have?" is up there.
  3. So what exactly do I ask for when I go to Lexus and get the coils. I know there is a diffrent name for them. And how would I find out how to install. Thanks for the help
  4. I like this idea. Is it hard to do yourself?? Any computer reconfig after?
  5. So what your saying is that my head is cracked since there is oil on the threads. :o
  6. As for the first response, they didnt do anything but guess. To find out what is wrong they would have to take the engine apart. That alone is the most expensive part. I have only taken it to two mechanics, in addition to Lexus. The first mechanic said there is a 20% compression loss on all cylynders. And took a guess as to what is happening. I replaces the spark plugs and there is wet oil on one ind the threading and dry on another above the seal line. Also there seems to be oil leaking from the rear main seal. The smoke coming from the tail pipe is white. Which = coolant but why? They have explained why engine swap is needed, b/c its cheaper to replace it tan rebuild Any other suggestions? Coils?
  7. A few months ago I bought a 92 sc400 with 125k on it. Now it smokes from the tail pipes and runs super rough and crapy. I took it to my mechanic and he said I will have to replace or rebuild the engine. Sounds a little extreme to me. I heard it could be the rings or the valve guides from him and other shops. Still way to expensive. I looked on this site and found that other people with this similar problem have had problems with the coils and it seemed to work for them. But I dont see how that could cause smoking from the tail pipes, and that awful gas smell that comes from them. Please HELP I think it s to dangerous to drive so its been sitting in my garage for about a month.
  8. I had a very similar prob w/ my contour SVT. I am not sure as to what it is but it REAALLLLY sux. Dont you feel like an idiot while you are diving it?? Well to the point I took it to about 12 diffent repair shops including 4 ford dealerships. They all told me it was fixed and i got it back and wuddoya know. Anyway I found this rinky dinky little place and they "fixed it" in 2 days I was skepticle but wuddoya know it ran good for a month, finally wreaked the car(praise ala). Anyway sound like wiring problems. Shorting out of the wiring harness somewhere maby. BUT HAVE CHECK THE WIReING OUT!!
  9. I dont even have the car yet just made a large down payment so I cant really back out. I get it on Sat. So I will let you all know, I called him today and he said he Put some premi in it w/ some inj cleaner and cleaned the plugs. Says there is no smoke. But I have seen stuff at the Discount Auto Mart that says it stops the smoke so I dunno. Compression test sounds like it a good Idea .Any info on how much is costs?
  10. Looks like I chose em.......or my junky car did anyway......How do I get rid of it?
  11. Yesterday I bought a sc400 that has 124,000 miles on it. I men everything looked great, it even drove nice when I took it out. Then I drive by this truck, and I see and smell smoke. I thought it was the truck, but then I pulled up to a stop light and saw it was the car (alot of smoke)coming out of the mufflers.....I was like s*** Im not going to buy this. Then I get back to the seller/dealer; who also sells engines for a living, he seems like a pretty reputable guy. I ask him about the smoke and he said "You know what that is? My stupid mechanik didnt lable the gas cans correctly and accidentally put in deisel in the tank"(which was empty so it made sense). And he said that once the deisel is burned off after I fill the tank up w/ regular gas the smoke will leave.......... Now I have done some research to find out what else it could be and I have read that the smoke is black when its deisel and not white. Please help I really dont want to pay for something expensive as I just bought the car Thank you
