  1. Find the post on how to flush the system, and flush it asap...... Hopefully you will get away with no damadge. Also unless you want to buy a new altanator fix the leak. PS leaks are known to kill altanators. YOu can try to put some Lucas Iol PS stop leak in the unit. It is OK in a lexus and works with DexIII Hopefully SK will see this post, he can tell you what you may have done to your pump and or system.
  2. I have a 84 Saab, and my 91 LS 400, I'm in a small town of 40,000 folks. I do not work on my own cars most of the time becouse I'm better at breaking it then fixing it. My michanice likes to work on both cars becouse it is a real change of pace for him. Not the same old, same old He has no problme with my bringing the parts in to him, as I can find them ccheeper then him most of the time, but we both understand if I bought the part and we do not know it's basd till after it goes on, I pay the labor, but if he bought the part he eats it. Fortunitly this has not yet happened.
  3. What year is his car... hay, akewlguy look on the side of the posting under his name. It is right there... SK... I'm suprised you did not respond by telling the guy that an Engine does not "slip" unless it is coming off the engine mounts.. I'm thinking this guy is talking about his engine's rpm going up without the car speeding up???? But I'll say he means his transmition or rear end slipped....... So, have you checked your transmision fliud. How is the level? Is the fluid dark brown oy black??? Or red and you can see the dip stick though it??? Have you ever had the trany serviced or the fliud changed????
  4. First off: STOP REFERING TO THE GUY AS A MECHANIC! Sorry to yell, but it makes a big diferance. This is not a Mechanic that did not do the repairs to your car, this is a guy you bought a used car from. And in most states he must be licanced as such if he sells more then 4 to 6 cars a year. So call your locale DMV and ask to talk to an investagator. Never say I bought a car fropm a michanic. Say I bought a used car from a dealer. Just becouse he has a repair shop it does not mean he is not a used car dealer. Lexus dealers have repair shops to, but when you buy a used car from them, you don't say I got it from a mechanic. He is a used car dealer that also has a shop, or a shop that also sells used cars, but in any case, he is a car dealer, becouse your dealing with him, was to buy a car from him, not to fix one you allready owned. Also you never did state if you took delivery of the car before he returned it to you after the police told him to. I'm sure your state has laws against selling a car where it looks like the airbag is ok, but it is not there. Most do. Also dealers must disclose if a car was in a collision. Call the police and file a fruad report. Call the guy that sold it to you and tell him you have spoken to an atterny that recomended to you that you file charges against him for fruad, with the PD, and the state, and to breing litigation to recind the deal due to fruad and to seek punitive damages. Tell him you will be meeting with the atterny in a few days to sign the reataner agrement and that the atterny is very willing to take the case on contingancy as he feels there is money to be made on this case due to the guys deception. An atterny will also tell you that as he never "fixed' the car as he aggreed to, you are under no obligation to complet the transaction, as he has not lived up to his end of the deal. Be strong when you say this. Then puase for a moment and sy "Look, I'm just sick of this whole thing, come and get the car and breing me my cash back, and I'll forget I ever meet you. Then do not say a word. First one to speak looses. Stay quite as long as you have to. Make him speak first. Do not settle for anything less then all your $$ back, get cash not a check or money order, etc... And do not give him more then 1 to 2 days to take the deal. Also if you have not run a carfax do so ASAP, it may show even more fruad to take to the police, like more miles on it then he claimed or a salvadge title...... Remember he is a lying scum that ripped you off. You do not and should not be nice to him. It is time for him to want you out of his life, and to pay you to go away. This guy knows he is in the wrong. Also nothing says you have to be open and honist with the guy. Let him think you are willing to put him in jail, and take his business, savings, and home away from him. He is a scum bag! Last but not least.... Next time CARFAX.........First....even if you are buying from someone you know. It is cheep peace of mind. We wish you the best of luck, yes you are learning an expensive lession, but I say let part of that lesseon be getting all your money back.
  5. If you bought it and you like it, scr ew what anyone els thinks..... But if you put it on my car I would pull it off and beat you with it :chairshot: As for opening and closing the trunk and needing a "handle", what are you all 100 year old ladies?????? My 91 pops, open, and goes up with only a finger pushing on it. Closes with just a finger pushing down.... We Don't need no stink'in handles!
  6. I can pull mine out clean and replace in 5 to 10 min., at most. I do not replace it after every long drive, I just tap the dirt out and blow the dust etc., out of it with compressed air. I hit it with the air fro the back.
  7. Hi: What have you found out about Zymax? Post links if possible. C.PR ← Go to www.ftc.gov in the search type in zmax. You will see lots including this: http://search.ftc.gov/cs.html?charset=iso-...&col=&n=1&la=en
  8. First if it on the sidewall. tire is dead. No reliable shop will fix it. For plug or patch, it depends on what you call a plud and what yo call a patch??? To do it right the tire comes off the rim. A plug is put though the hole. Then a patch is but in the inside of the tire over the plug...
  9. YOU TALKING BOUT ME!!!!!!!!! If you where talking about my post I did mean the fluid not the wipers. Stuf works great. As I said in my post when it rains I almost never need the wipers.
  10. Hi, can I sell you some swamp... I mean nice land in new orlines.... Try checking with the FTC they go after folks like this... But it does not stop them. They keep fining "ZMAX" but the company makes so much they just pay the fine
  11. numbers on box right...Numbers on part do not match those on part. Bolt hols diferant. Openings diferant. Pully shaft diferant . Whole unit smaller.... And we could not figur out how to make it work by duct taping it on
  12. "Missish!ti" An't that nother of them jaqpanes car companies?
  13. Just got one from AutoZone Here in Arizona for under 120.00 with core exchange. Lifetime garantee. For my 91 LS400
  14. In this case the uy is not a michanic fixing a customers car. He is a car dealer fixing a car he sold to a customer. First when you bought the car, did you take it home, and bring it back for him to fix? If yes, for get this part. but if you bought it and left it, you never took dellivery of the goods sold to you. Call the cops asking them to show up and "keep the peace". Explain what happened. You have evrry right to get your money back and walk away. In any case call the dmv. Report this guy. Remember in this case he is a used car dealer, not a shop. Also dose your state have a auto repair burow or state agancy that look over repair shops? Call them. I would not report it stoilin. Do you want a busted up car returned to you? Or do you want either your $$ back or the deal you made completed??? This guy may just be finding out to fix it he is going upside down on the cost or he just does not have a clue on working on a Lex. Go for your $$$ back.. Do I dare ask how much you are out???
  15. The info worked great. I just wish the replacement pump I bought was the right one. The part number was right on the sealed box. But the wrong pump was inside. Can't get another one till Monday... So It's Saab time.. :D my other car is a Saab..... 84 with 350,000 ... Makes a 91 LS400 wih 130,000 look new and low milladge!
  16. Fact of life after any big flood, etc.. The slim is left behind. Over the years I have even seen two totaled cars cut apart and made into one. There are more of those then one would think. When hit from the side they crack open and everyone spills out. Saw one that came apart after hiting a speed bump at to high of a speed. About 30 mph.... Sorry I used to be an accident investigator. Years ago Saab had about 2,000 cars wreaked by flooding. They sold them off, but cut everyone of them in half first to keep them off the market. They forgot about welding torches and bondo. One last word. CARFAX!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Oh GOD!!!! Lets not get into the regular or perm thing again. In short becouse you car is computer contolled you can "run" it on low grade gas. But can and should are not the same. 91 will make the car happy and you will also get more mpg with it then reg. :chairshot: For off roading I get 8 mpg in my ford truck! :cries: This is why I drive the Lexus everywere exept off road or to take the boat to the river! B) I have a lead foot and a 91 LS400. Running on long drives (200 to 800 miles) I get 21 to 22 mpg at speeds of 85 to 90 mph. I have no doubt 55 to 65 would get much better mpg. Around town i have no idea almost all my miles (90%) are hwy. I clean the air filter about after every long drive. You would be amazed at the bug collection you get. Butterflys, bees, greasshopers, and once part of a small bird.... My dirving is mostly open hwy from state to state. Arizona, Nevada, California, and Mexico (yes I know Mexico is not a state .
  18. Don't forget to let us know how it turns out. Here is hoping it's something easy and cheap to fix!
  19. Just some personal thoughts.. Take them for what they are worth... And that may be a lot to you or nothing at all.... To see the history of the car try two things if you want to try them. Have a dealer run the vin # for you. This will give you the history that Lexus has on the car. Anytime it was seen by a dealer it would go into the Lexus computer data base. Run a car fax on the car and see if they show it as a one owner car or not..... Lastly. I like to work on my cars myself, but as my michanical skills are worse then my spelling skills... I have learned to give most work to my locale shop. And to tell you the truth with him charging 50.00 an hour and knowing what he is doing, most of the time it saves me from waisting my time trying to do it myself or fix one thing and breaking another.... Please think about having someone look at the car for you and tell you what they think it needs. Paying a local shop (not a dealer) for an hour of thier time to diagnose the car for you will save you all this waisted time and buying of parts..... Just my thoughts.... But like I said, may or may not mean anything to you.
  20. I did some research and talked with some companies that make the flush machines. They stated that they have "heard" of some trouble with older cars after either engine or trany flush. But have no personal knowladge of it happening. They stated the machines still wok at a lower presure then the car works at when running. But they say that if a car is real dirty the dirt could have been sealing leaks, so it may be posible that after a flush, with the dirt removed, the car could have trouble. You know this sound a lot like the thing about putting mobil one in an older car and then having trouble. I looked into that and fond out the same basic thing.... If it had dirt sealing a leak, then the Mobel One would clean the dirt, and the seal would/could leak.....
  21. I have respect for Army and he has helped me before... But I really do want to know why not to do it. I did do mine about 3 months ago, the guy by me was running a speacil for only 60.00, and I have records on the car from day one and at 115,000 miles on my 91 ls the trany had never been serviced so I had it done. I'm now at 123,000 or so, and everything seems OK.
  22. OK I stand corrected, but why is it bad to power flush the trany??? I would really like to know.
  23. I believe he is panting it himself and is paying 500.00 just for the paint itself..... Yes a Lexus is a great car, but any used car is only as good as how the last owner took care of it. Abuse can turn any car into junk in less then 20,000 miles. Sorry to hear you went 300.00 just to fix the front seat. You can but a set of custom made skins, and pay to have them installed. Skins are about 400.00 for the whole car as I recall, and about 200.00 to install... What do you know about the care and use this car got from the old owner??? I got mine from my dad. He did not drive much, and only in traffic. When he needed to sell it I bought it becouse I knew it was well cared for. But it did not drive that greaty on the open hiway, untill I did about 3 tanks of gas with an additive in the fuil, and severail 400 mile drives, to blow all the "stuff" built up from short hop, slow stop and go traffic. In fact when I got it, if you hit the gas hard, you got smoke out the back... Think it was white/blue... But no more... So, the way it was driven does effect a car.
  24. I have loooked over the posts, and searched. Just cant find one. I think it is on the board "somewhere?
