  1. I can tell you that unless they are "law enforcment" rated that the strobes are a joke. In daylight they can not be seen. At night not that great. If you are adding them to actavate with your alarm. No one is going to pay extra attention to the car when it strobes. It is a lot of work on your car to get then in right. And then you make an opening for water. You will end up with fogging in your lights. If you need them for emergancy responce then go on ebay and look at getting a real emergancy light like Federal Signail. If it just something for fun.... It is your car to do with as you please.... Be it seen by others as a good idea or bad.
  2. Just a thought. Can you get to the bottom of the drain line were it coms out of the car, and run a wire in it from that end instead of at the top of the line.
  3. I have a 91 LS and it sounds like you are talking about the tail light out warning. No big deal. Open the trunk and wigle those conectors see if the light goes out. Also turn on your lights and check your tail lights. Then step on brake and have someone check your brake lights. More likly then not you have a dead bulb. By the way THANK YOU from everyone here at home for what you and your family are doing and giving up for us!
  4. Do the fuses "Look" good or do they test good. A fuse can look good but be bad. Get some extra fuses and try changing that 25 amp fuse.
  5. I see your piont and agree you pay for it you can do what ever with it. But I wuld call a car a tool more then an appliance.
  6. :whistles: The used manafold I have looks like it is coated in a nasty black stuff. But as a test I hit it with some B12 Chemtool spray. Spray melted the stuf to the metal. I know on carberated engines you can spray cleaner down the carb like nuts and witht he engine running you can't kill the engine. So I'm inclined to think this is O.K. with the lexus. I also have cleaned the TB on my 84 Saab this way and it works great. Also on my 89 Blazer with a TB. But Lexus seems like a diferant car so I asked. After all, I can hit the Saab's or Fords Engine with a ton of water no big deal. But the Lexus got a little wet and I did a grand worth of damadge. Lexus is to expensive to assume stuff with. But I never asked if this was as good as cleaning the TB off the car. I just asked about doing it this way and the effects on the plugs etc.
  7. It is in the forums someplace do a search of all forums on this site
  8. I had asked this question about cleaning the Throttle Body with it on the car: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=18979 My reason or thinking behind it is because I know there is a lot of "Stuff" in the manifold if there is stuff on the TB. Right now car is fine. No reason to be thinking about the TB other then it has never been done that I know of with 120,000 miles on the car. It is a 91 LS 400 I got the car wet and messed up the Idle Control Valve. A $500.00 to $700.00 part. I finally found that I could buy a used valve if I bough a used top manifold and asked that the valve stay with it. Strange, but that way I got the thing for $120.00 with 6 month warrantee on the used valve. I just got the part and am putting it on today. The Control Valve, not the manifold O.K. stay with me. You should see the stuff that is in the manifold I got. Man it is dirty (comes clean when hit with carb cleaner). Now I realize the car it came off of was in bad shape more likely then not, and does not reflect what mine looks like, but it got me thinking... Yes, thinking hurts and is a dangerous thing, but I'm doing it anyway. I'm working on car anyway so why not clean the TB with the engine running and hope it helps to clean up the manifold to. Now it may be when I look at my TB opening it will be nice and clean (not likely) and I'll do nothing, but if it is dirty, I figure spray the daylights out of it, at a good rpm and let all the stuff go though the engine and also clean the manifold. But.... This brings us to my question of is this going to really mess with my plugs and valves having all the stuff wash down to them? If I do this, I will then take a 400 mile none stop drive with added cleaners in the gas (I have to take the drive anyway). I'm thinking that yes, stuff is getting to plugs and valves, but with engine running, and then taking the long drive, everything should clean out. I'll use stuff safe for 02 sensors and cats. Now you know my thinking. Is it on track or am I going to do bad things to a nice car? And here is another question. Where does all that stuff come from. The TB is after the air filter and before the injectors. It is just "air" going though it. Or is it because of the engine "fumes" picked up though vacuum? Anyone looking for a top manifold cheep? Without the idle control valve that is..... :chairshot:
  9. I said it before I'll say it again. Those bottles of booster are a waist of Money. Try the better gas. Look if your gas is rated at 87 octan and you ad a booster that states you will get 10 pionts more from it, it does not take 87 octan to 97. It takes it to 87.10!!!!! A total waist! Back to what the noise is. Have someone look at it when it is making the noise. Could be so many things! Including the fan hitting the cover. It could even be a motor mount and something is hitting when the egine is given gas... Lots of things..
  10. The light on mine stayed on. The sender was bad. The float in it would not float anymore. I took the sender out. Let it dry out. Then JB welded some plastic to the float to make it float. Put in back in, all fixed. Took about 10 Min., time and a few cents worth of glue.
  11. I have read your how to at www.lexls.com thanks again for the great info. But then again how far in do you clean? What about all that stuff on the inside of the manafold?
  12. I'll take the stuf of the car to get to the opening of the TB , I just do not want to take the TB itself or the top manafold off the car. I want to clean it by spay cleaner onto the opening of the TB with it on the car. As the TB is in place before the Injectors I know there is no aditive that will clean it or the top manafold area before the injectors.
  13. I am thinking about cleaning the Throttle body on my 91 LS. I want to do it with it on the car. I know how to take all the stuff off to get to the throttle body opening. I figure spray cleaner should work. Both with the engine running and not. But this is were I would like your 2 cents worth. I know doing it off the car is best but I'm not willing to do that much work to take it off (at this time). If it matters plug are new. I have heard never use Carb cleaner, only Throttle Body cleaner... Is there really a difference. Booth are marked as safe for O2 Sensors and cats. I have heard not to do it on the car, as you just wash everything down to your valves and plugs and foul them up??? Your thoughts?? I have a 400 mile drive coming on Monday. I figure clean the TB (Monday morning just before I'm leaving), then hit the road and drive for 400 mile straight (non-stop at 65 to 85 mph) with a extra bottle or two of fuel system cleaner added to the tank of gas (Like chevron or other major brand). I figure this will clean everything out... Again, kind folks your thoughts on this?
  14. If after the cars dead are you abli to restart it? Can you get the egine to turn over or is there no juice for the starter?? If you can keep cracking it after it stopped your battery is O.K. and most likly your Altanator is to.
  15. Maxed Out... Never heard of SeaFoam. What is it were do you get...
  16. Hay take it to the dealer. Most of them know what they are doing, and why waist time finding out what it could be? The dealer will save you time. They will look at everything it could posable be and fix it. Oh, not by fixing the one thing it is but buy replacing every Fu#$% thing it could remotle be, charging you an arm and a leg, and maby you get it back working right... Find a good non-dealer guy to take the car to. I would start with plugs and wires ... Need to be done every 60,000 miles anyway... When were yours last done? If it still does it... Cap and rotor. If still does it Coils... If still does it ...Gas/ fuil delivery.... and so on. For Do It Yourseldf see Lexls's pages at www.lexls.com Nice guy with lots of help.
  17. My local shop will do both front seats for $150.00 total with my suppling the skins, He sez about the same for the back. With almost any foam I want. I will E-Mail SEMA and see who they list as a "manufacter" on skins
  18. Try turning the ignition on, but not starting the car. Count to 20 and then try starting the car. If it starts faster after doing this it is most likely a fuel pressure thing. When sitting the car looses fuel pressure in the line, and has to let the fuel pump rebuild it as it cranks. By just turning the ignition on, you are giving the fuel pump a chance to build pressure. That's all if waiting the 20 count does anything.... Another question. If you start the car and have it running, then shut if off, but restart it immediately does it still take time to start????
  19. You are getting some good advise here, glad to see everyone helping this guy. Now for my 2 cents. I'm glad to help. I hate insurance companies and car thief's, and I have had to deal with both. I am a trained fraud investigator, and I see insurance companies claiming fraud etc., all the time when there was none and no reason to really suspect it. But some claims adjusters are morons and insurance companies are not in the business of paying claims. I now make my living as a writer. In fact a business and consumer issue writer. Unfortunately it is better for insurance companies to wrongfully deny claims and take the hit from those folks that would not go away then to pay the claim in the first place. And some insurance companies play that game. Some do not. Unfortunately for you this is not a game it is your life. I will contact Lexus for you and get any information they have on your year of car being stolen without the key. I will also check with the National crime stats for you. Give me about a week, but I will get you documents that show, yes these cars have been stolen without the key. Dumb !Removed! insurance adjuster. Hell if this was a car that could not be stolen without the key, it would be all over the news media and Lexus would still be hipping the hell out of it. Take a day and draft a letter explaining you difficulties and send it to every government official you can, and I mean every, from Police chief to City Mayor, to Senators governor, everyone. Yes you are looking 20 to 30 letters. Also send out letters to every T.V., radio and newspaper around asking for help. Address it to the "News Editor". It is a lot of letters but if you get only 2 or 3 responses or folks contacting the insurance company, you will see a big change. I have a call into Lexus about what they know about any 99 LS 400's being taken without a key. Also see : http://www.gfb.org/ This is the home web page for Ga Farm bureau. This is a "Member Organization. I would complain to them also. Contact me by PM with your full name and other info. I will call Jennifer Whittaker in their public relations department and let her know that I'm investigating this for a front page story. Let me know how else I can be of help to you.
  20. Stay away from Octane Boosters. I'm a writer and have written about them. They work but are more expensive then just buying the better gas because you would need gallons of them to make a difference. If you are interested: Here is what I did on water injection: http://www.biznetonline.com/02-02/water2.htm Here is the some of the stuff on Octane Boosters and the fact that they are a wast of $$: http://www.biznetonline.com/02-02/water.htm http://www.biznetonline.com/12-01/car.htm On Octane: http://www.biznetonline.com/12-01/octane.htm http://www.biznetonline.com/12-01/api.htm http://www.biznetonline.com/12-01/fuel.htm:
  21. how cheap? LOL. it is probably the Tstat again. if not its the WP, but not likely. ← You have my sympathy, I know how frustrating it can be to have a car over heating etc, and keep throwing money at it and getting nowhere! I had a truck doing the same thing. Did all hoses, the radiator, thermostat after thermostat, and still this dam overheating! We never looked at the water pump because it was not making any noise or leaking. I finally said screw it and did the pump because there was nothing else to do. In pulling the water pump we found out the shaft had rotted and the pump was not really turning inside. My mechanic was amazed as the pump should have leaked and made a lot of noise. I hope you find your fix and get back to being happy with your car.
  22. I replaced the entire leather interior in my 93 Ls400 using a custom (full leather) interior form www.autoleathers.com , it cost me $700.00 for the whole interior and it looks better than OEM and the leather is better quality than Lexus. Let me know how you make out at pnuzzi@nycap.rr.com. ← Did you have a shop fit it all, or DIY? I know I need some new foam for mine, and I'm concerned about quality of foam that installer might use. ← I'm looking to do this on a 91LS keep me in the loop. I will talk to the guy here that did my truck and get a ruff price on what he would want for the labor. I know that a good shop will put in any foam you want to pay for. Some time back I postadge about how bad the seats are. Some guys talked about gel inserts see: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=17448&hl=seats
  23. That's easy for you guys to say! B) thanks alot , that exactly what I'm going to check. btw, the clunk noise is your upper control arms. One of the bushings is shot, or both. Its best to change them both at once. ←
  24. A friend just picked up the TomTom Go unit and is extremely pleased. Google it.. ← I have a Garmin Ique with a 1 gig card in it. Complet USA maps. MP3 Player and PDA Color touch Screen under $500.00
  25. It can't be more then an inch. I would think it is no more then 1/2 inch. That is why it is hard to see if it is realy tweeked or not. But if you think about it, the body shop that said if it is tweeked I would be looking at, at most another $800.00 would suport the fact that if it is tweeked it is less then an inch.
