  1. Beveled edges of the pads go down in this model.
  2. Normal noise from the charcoal canister. Updated part was made to reduce the noise.
  3. That's not true, have 3 on my dealers lot without spoilers.
  4. I work for a Lexus dealer and know what a rod knock sounds like. Warranty makes us replace the short block, not just the wristpin.
  5. Your car does not have an EGR valve. A bad knoch sensor will trun on the check engine light. I have seen a few bad cat converters make a knock type sound through the exhaust if you listen to the exhaust side of the motor. I have replaced a few blocks due to bad #6 cylinder wrist pins. Listen to the bottom of the motor with a long screwdriver on the lower oil pan and your ear, you'll hear a really loud knock from the bottom end. If that's the case you need a new block.
  6. I work for a dealer and have fixed this issue. TSB for it. Replace motor and trans mounts with updated ones. Install frame dampner. Replace exhaust hangers with RX300 ones. Loosen the spare tire if it is cranked down too tight. Then add one of 3 different muffer dampner weights according to which frequency the car owner is noticing the most. It works.
  7. Check the VSV the applies vacuum to the EGR valve. Sometimes those fail and won't apply the correct amount of vacuum.
  8. Swap coils #5 and #6 with others and see if the misfire moves to another cylinder. Have seen many of these coils fail.
  9. Keep the 1991. Far better overall look and feel than a 1993. Bigger glovebox & combination meter lights don't fail like the 1993. Black rocker panel look better than the color keyed ones.
  10. Remove the cruise control actuator, cable and pcv hose. You can reach the plugs from the top.
  11. What is the voltage drop on the ground side of the electrical system?
  12. Have you cleaned and lubed the seal?
  13. With a small pick or screwdriver you can pry out the cam seals without removing the valve cover. Use some assembly lube or silicone paste to slide the new seals into place
  14. The lifter that hold the shim becomes damaged over time on the #7 intake side. The steel insert that pushes on the intake valve gets pressed towards the shim. This will cause the lifter to sag lower on the valve increasing clearance.
  15. Is the rubber hose from the throttle body to the air cleaner cracked on the bottom?
  16. There's also a 24mm hex built on the cams that you can turn with a wrench. The last intake lifter on the driver's side head, near the firewall is also notorious to go bad due to poor oiling in that area.
  17. What DTC did you get? There's a TPS, acceleration pedal postion sensor, or throttle motor code for this problem. The throttle motor is not as common to fail. Usually it's the sensor that fails. Sensor are way cheaper than the throttle motor.
  18. The design challenge The EGR system of today must precisely control the flow of recirculated exhaust. Too much flow will !Removed! engine performance and cause a hesitation on acceleration. Too little flow will increase NOx and cause engine ping. A well-designed system will actually increase engine performance and economy. Why? As the combustion chamber temperature is reduced, engine detonation potential is also reduced. This factor enabled the software engineers to write a more aggressive timing advance curve into the spark timing program. If the EGR valve is not flowing, onboard diagnostics (OBD) systems will set a code and the power control module (PCM) will use a backup timing curve that has less advance to prevent engine ping. Less timing advance means less performance and economy. Do your customer a favor and fix those EGR codes that you may have previously deemed as unimportant
  19. How EGR systems work The EGR valve recirculates exhaust into the intake stream. Exhaust gases have already combusted, so they do not burn again when they are recirculated. These gases displace some of the normal intake charge. This chemically slows and cools the combustion process by several hundred degrees, thus reducing NOx formation. This is basic high school science. Seems like many people on this forum have failed high school level science courses. This is not new technology. Get it together SCoupe and SKperformance.
  20. Rx400h is night and day compared to anything Toyota has. Go to the Lexus dealer only. Every system on the car is different from anything Toyota has.
  21. Why would you want to disable the EGR system? This is an electronic fuel injected vehicle. Can't "fool" it into running better. EGR cools the combustion chamber and reduces emissions. If you remove it, the check engine light will stay on, you'll run hotter, and leaner. Engine will lose performance and ping.

  23. You can replace the egr pipe without removing the transmission on all ls400's except for the 1993 air injection models. Takes about 1 hour to do it. Email me for more info.
