  1. Add the filter and you will save the headaches. Do not use mobil 1 as it was also a start of my problems.
  2. BTW i had the same problem , i got a JDM one for $80 and switched out the plastic rocker switch( as they are RHD) as the plastic pins it uses to rock the mechanical contacts under tehm broke. It worked perfectly after. Basically if the switch is weak in the direction you are trying to move it the plastic is probably broken, You need to take the switch apart and confirm it. I may have some extra switches left i could sell you as i only needed one.
  3. Both fixes can work and are the most common issues.
  4. Get an inline tranny filter. Find my old thread with pics and links of where to find one .My cousin had the same problem he added it and the tranny came back together like mine did over a month.
  5. I just bought my 98 LS400 for 11 000 with high milage but i am supposed to get the new keys from the previous ower shortly.
  6. The ride will change with 19's from 16's for sure It wil be stiffer and more controlled.
  7. do a google, use the words high CO emission test failed You will get lots of ideas of what to look at.
  8. I have a post where i explain brake replacment in the workshop tutorials. It uses the main carriage bolts on the rear suspension to pop off the rotors. It takes both bolts to be tightened slightly to even the pressure to pop them off with a bang.
  9. The little red globe on the dash is a "solar sensor". It is a solar panel that lets the hvac ecu know how much sun is facing the driver, it then activates a certain amount of air driected through the vents to cool the front passengers faces more if needed. It should not change the temp of the hvac sytem,.
  10. BTW seafoam is only available at NAPA stores no where else. I love engine cleaners though. But i use them differently as i add ti with old oil then drain after running arround the block then drain with cheap oil for 2 days then drain and fill with a good synthetic as i do not want any cleaner hanging around in my engine too long.
  11. I agree with both of you but please end the discussion as all points have been made with very strong supporting material. Truthfulyy i paid $200 Canadian which is dirt cheap not kind of cheap . My dealer charged me $800 the first time. Then i got to know the techs at a few dealers and they do work for me faster than i ever could and better ,so why should i even bother to do it. Shop rates do vary widely for 45-130 in the same city. I am sure you can get it done cheap but you do get what you pay for. Unless you do it yourself.
  12. You want to fight sludge do religious oil changes and use synthetic only. Adjust the schedule sooner if you drive alot of city and not highway. I am not sure which synthetics are not API now adays anyway.
  13. Well lets look on the bright side. It is fabric and not vinyl with gold rivets. LMAO I love the car but i would buy it anyway since it is definatly a salvage car looking like that and needs serious repairs to be returned to normal condition.
  14. H8R KLF cannot get or send PM's yet as he is new. I agree ,wheel locks are a waste of time and money , unless you own some kind of special edition rim which is not readily availble. Personally i would rather the stock wheels get stolen so insurance can buy me some new ones ,since for the price of the crap i pay for a new set of rims every year for a peice of mind.
  15. I agree it can burn paint and i have years ago. Easiest advice is to turn the speed down (my milwakee has an adjustable setting) If not then i would definatly not use it until you practice on a friends POS car first.
  16. I agree the easiest way to start is probably remove the bulbs one by one to try and isolate a cuircit if you are not sure what i mean you probably need a pro to tackle it.
  17. I like www.hidforum.com for great info and recently they started selling some of the better kits.
  18. At the begininng the Gm guys at the dealer had to send someone over to a toyota dealer to buy filters as they forgot they needed them.
  19. Not saying the current ES or SC is bad just not my taste. I love the old SC for its long graceful lines. And the 00-01 ES for its slight refreshed look. My biggest problem with the current ES is the headlights.
  20. OMG I would rather be locked out than listen to that music. Maybe it would be a better theft detterant than a siren wailing at 2 AM
  21. Catera is one peice of wood. The parts are ridiculas because of it being the german arm of GM called OPEL.
  22. for larger pics for the non dial up guys pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 pic 4
  23. Well i finally replaced my inline filter this morning as it was in need of replacing . OMG it was a pain to take out without getting under the car. Here are the pics of the filter apart. Basically it shows nothing ,i found no debris no major metal chunks just metal sludge .The filter media itself has brown dirt in it but no particles that i can see.I cannot even see light through it either. I aws disapointed until i pulled my car out of the garage and noticed a bright red pool of fluid. At first i was like "now i have to clean this 2" then i realised after 6 months the fluid is as clean and new looking as when i put it in. It even smelled good. I am sold on this thing for the price i paid. It keeps the fluid clean as hell, it got the tranny back from the dead with slipping shifts and i am so happy. So all i can say is if you have a stupid metal mesh that toyota put in your tranny get a external filter for more than a peice of mind. I have never seen bright red fluid in a driven car after 1 month.
