  2. i suggest you search on "radio lights" and "sparkplugs" There is an endless supply of threads on these two subjects. steviej
  3. Read this thread.
  4. OMG!!!! That's my father. :whistles: :whistles:
  5. I want a GS300 AWD but it wasn't available in 2002. I have a much better appreciation for my ES now than I did when I bought it. Why? just because I have grown to know it so well. steviej
  6. check out lextech.org, some members have had luck with their repair. sj
  7. neither, the interior is light charcol. and thank you. sj
  8. we are in the process of doing that. posts are removed when we find them or get to them. keep in mind, we work for a living, too, and moderators aren't on 24 hours a day. steviej
  9. they are always coming up on ebay. look there. steviej
  10. Because this is what you wrote in the first post of your/the closed thread. You posted minimal information at best. It certainly sounds, by your description, of the problem discussed in the 28+ page thread about tranny hesitiations described in so many various ways. Don't get upset with SK for closing your thread. If he hadn't closed it, I certainly would have. I would have simply because of your initial post. It sounds exactly like the same problem. The same problem that people post up again and again because they don't bother to read the pinned threads. steviej
  11. no, we are not talking brightness. When you turn on the car with the headlights on, the headlights should actually move and down to postion themselves based on the angle of the car. If you do this at night, you will see the actual beam move. steviej
  12. because the problem that triggered the codes still exists. What are the codes? steviej
  13. Autozone will read the codes for free. The dealer may get you for $80-100 if not in warranty. Either way, no one knows anything until the codes are read and posted. I may move this to the GX forum as that vehicle is the closest to your 4-Runner. steviej
  14. Not to mention a 28+ page thread pinned at the top of this forum. steviej
  15. Marv, glad to help. One suggestion. Please take a few hours and read the owners manual. This bit of information and many others are all laid out in there. steviej
  16. Funny, I was just reading the same about Falkens on another site. I would go with the Pirelli, they are on my short list, too. steviej
  17. I can't vote, neither of my brands are choosable. :chairshot: Treads are in the signature. The OEM size Dunlops will be replaced with either Bridgestone Turanza LS-V or some kind of high end Michelins. I don't know what the Toyos will be replaced with or when. They got plenty of tread but are getting loud. steviej
  18. tell me about it, today: 2.58, 2.68 and 2.78. OUTRAGEOUS!!!
  19. saw gas prices today. $2.51 for 87, $2.61 for 89 and $2.71 for 93. Ouch. I want my motorcycle back. :cries: steviej
  20. This is true and not quite true. It is true in that the base gasoline is the same. For a given geographic area, there are huge tank farms that contain the same base gasoline in mulitple grades. All the tanker trailer trucks pull up and fill up there. They then haul this gas off to a little filling station near you. It is not true in that the different brands of gasoline (Mobil, Shell, Sunoco, etc) usually have a concentrate that the truck driver has to add to the tank when he fills up the trailer. This concentrate then mixes with the gas when the tanker is filled up and from the motion of the vehicle. The concentrate, however, is specific to each brand. Each company requires/provides their own "mix". That mix is proprietory information. Usually detergents and other stuff. How do I know this: my dad does this for a living. steviej
  21. You have to step on the brake pedal to release the shifter from park. There is a switch up at the top of the brake pedal that electronically releases the park lock. Maybe the switch is faulty, not adjusted properly or just tempermental. Call the service department back and see if they checked this switch. Unfortunately, problems like this are hard to diagnose if duplication fails. If it happens again. Don't turn the car off, take you foot off the brake and then reapply pressure to the pedal and try again. See if you can't isolate the problem by limiting you variables everytime this "no shift" condition happens. steviej
  22. correct, it can be done that way to. on balljoints, we usually use a long (5ft-7ft) crow bar and put it under the wheel, then pry. The trick is to feel where it is clucking and hear where it is clucking. Sometimes you need a second set of ears and eyes right next to the wheel hub or ball joint. steviej
  23. Toys, nice job! steviej
  24. if you want to make a noticable increase in your HP, then you gotta open up both ends of the airway. Just doing the intake may look nice and change the sound somewhat but you probably won't see much more punch at the throttle. look at it this way, what good is taking a big gulp of air if you can't get rid of it quick enough. If you are looking for substantial HP gain, spend a little extra ducets and open up both ends. steviej
  25. actually, there are no clips on the 2002 air box. There are two 10 mm bolts that need be undone. You will find it easier to lift up the top section of the air box to get the filter out and new one in, if you remove 1 philips screw that holds the bracket on the back side of the air box. This bracket holds a hose on the back side. If you remove the bracket the top cover will pivet easier and higher making replacement easier. paper/fiber/foam air filters should be replace at least 1x year. Cheap investment for optimum mileage. there is major controversy and always a topic of two sided conversation when dealing with oiled high flow filters (K&N, TRD, AirHog, etc). They work for some and some feel it is no advantage and can even be detrimental. It all comes down to what each owner wants to do with their car. In any case, air filter replacement is one of the easiest DIY tasks on a car. Good luck. steviej
